There haven't been any new postings to this thread in a long time, so I thought I would "bump it up" for the benefit of those who are not aware that it exists. Unfortunately, as is so often the case with these massive lists of links, many of the links are now dead. Even worse, many of the dead links were to the best images. Such is life on the web.

One of the great sites for photos is flickr. You can search this site by going directly here. Most of the photos have an "ALL SIZES" link above the photo, which takes you to a page with various sizes that you can view and/or download. However, a good many of the photos of interest to us do not include this feature. If you try to save the photo by right-clicking on it and selecting "Save Image As" (or whatever it is for your browser), you wind up with a file named "spaceball.gif", which is, of course, blank. Here's one way to get to the actual photo file:

• As an example, check out "http://flickr.com/photos/utako/166930195/".
  
• View the page source. For Firefox users, this is View > Page Source (other browsers are similar).
  
• Search this page of HTML text for "_t.". You do not have to know anything about HTML to do this. Just use the browser's Find feature, e.g., Edit > Find in Firefox. Type "_t." in the search field and press whatever you have to press to make it execute. In Firefox, you don't have to do anything. It just finds the text and highlights it.
  
• Now select the entire URL. In our example, it is "http://farm1.static.flickr.com/78/166930195_e4849608dd_t.jpg".
  
• Copy the URL and past it into the address line of your browser. I suggest you open a new browser window or tab for this purpose.
  
• Go to this page and you will see the thumbnail of the photo you want.
  
• Now edit the address line to remove the "_t". In out example, this will produce "http://farm1.static.flickr.com/78/166930195_e4849608dd.jpg". This is the URL of the full-size version of the photo.
  
• Go to this address. Save the photo as you normally would.
