army-girl
So... 2 days ago I had lunch out with my mom. Her and my dad were away for the weekend and I thought it'd be a nice way to hear about their trip and catch up and what not.We went to Herzeliya Pituach (which is this really nice area of Herzeliya, right along the coast side) and ate at a place called "The Giraffe", a really fun yummy Thai-Asian place, nothing that claims to be ethnic, just good food, slightly a-la-fancy style. Around lunch it's always bustling with people and crowded. We got a table outside, since the inside was full beyond belief, but that's ok, since it was kinda nice and breathy outside. Actually, even for the table outside we had to wait, and this is when I observed observaion (a). A young man (didn't really look a day over 17) who sort of reminded me of one of my friends, slighly dark skin, glasses, short spikey black hair, very slim, he was sitting at the bar at the entrance waiting for a table (we were standing at the entrance since even the bar was full ) and even though I was hardly 2 meters away with all the commotion I could only see and not hear. He clutched at his mouth with 1 hand and his head slightly moved forward as his eyes closed up, a first sneeze, and then, without releasing his grasp, a second sneeze, and a second later still holding his hand still, a 3rd. Like I said, I couldn't hear, and they didn't throw him forward or anything, but from what I could see his head was shaking with the force of each sneeze. It's like he exploded in the very contained space of his hand clasping his mouth. I have another friend that sneezes kind of like that, he doesn't cover the same way, but the very concentrated burst just shaking in a minimal space, it's, it's fascinating to observe if you ask me (and it's my obs, so you might as well ask me).Observation ( was sometimes later after we sat down and ordered and even started eating. The table to our right was a couple, guy and girl having lunch, the guy was dressed like he just fell out of bed or like he just came back from the beach, a dark blue sleeveless shirt that looked over worn and tattered and a pair of shorts that had nothing speical about them. I didn't pay attention to his shoes, but I'm willing to pay good money he wore flipflops, it was just the general look, you know? aside for what he was wearing, he sort of reminded me of Ben Affleck and Tom Hanks, just something about his hair and face that resembled... right, now that you know more than you could ever possible want to know ( ) about what he sort of looked like ( ) here's how it went down, our tables were really quite close to each other, in fact, had I wanted to, I would've been able to partake in his conversation with his girlfriend. He was sitting to the right and front of me, diagonally, so needless to say, I had the 2nd best seat in the house (his girlfriend had the first) he finished chewing a bite of noodles (yeay for Thai spicey food!) and his expression sort of stammered for a few seconds, he blinked and sort of mmmm, you know when someone overly opens their eyes? kind of like going "wow" while being taken aback? he did that... he just sat straight back, opened his eyes wide and froze for a few seconds, looking sort of flushed as his eyes watered (must have been spicey, in fact! now that I'm writing this down, I remember he complained to one of the waiters that his dish was really hot and spicey.... interesting thing retrospect is) while still stretching back (but not really tilting his head) he picked up his napkin rather slowly to his face and then sneezed into is, eyes shutting tight as his body moved forward (moved, not jerked) with the sneeze. And again, even while I was sitting less than a meter away, it was so amazingly hard to hear anything, I heard the sound of "a sneeze" but nothing I could spell out properly really, sorry. But hey, the visual effects were nice I didn't even notice if his girlfriend blessed him or not... I have a feeling she didn't...To end what was a pretty nice lunch (they had this AMAZING coating made of corn-flour on the meat in my noodles which mom and I over analyzed for almost the entire duration of lunch, and then some) not long before we left a couple sat in the table behind my mother. Older man and lady, the way they sat, he had his back towards me (and he was also behind my mom) so I couldn't see his face, just white neat hair. Very shortly after sitting down he turned to the left with a really quick "EETSHU", the only sneeze I did manage to hear it didn't do much for me, but since it registered audibly I figured I'll share. So, the lesson is, people sneeze around spicey food? either that or I should just go out more because people just sneeze Link to comment

Sneesee
WOW, army-girl! How did you manage to actually eat with all those obs going on? I would've been way too distracted! Anyway, these were lovely and well described as ALWAYS! You have a knack for making us feel like we were there. Which reminds me, when are you and I going out for lunch at a Spicy Thai-Asian restaurant? Hopefully soon! I need to add this, too: I do have a friend, who likes some spicy stuff, but has also told me that most spicy foods tend to have that reaction on him. Which also makes me wonder, when are he and I going to a spicy Thai-Asian restaurant for lunch? Link to comment
atchoum
Three nice observations, though I must admit I feel a bit frustrated if I see someone sneeze and can't hear the sneeze. But the facial effects here were so good ! Link to comment
army-girl
Which reminds me, when are you and I going out for lunch at a Spicy Thai-Asian restaurant? Hopefully soon! Me? the sooner the better I LOVE eating out and I love going for Japanese or Thai or Asian food in general, and dare I say I should stop hogging all the observations to myself and share me... I can think of at least 1 well remembered incident of sitting down at a Japanese place and getting quite the show from this girl who was sneezing... repeatedly.... note to self: share more I need to add this, too: I do have a friend, who likes some spicy stuff, but has also told me that most spicy foods tend to have that reaction on him.
