atchoum
This is the most noteworthy sneeze from a few days in Belgium. It was in the train, coming back from Flanders into Brussels, an early-morning long-distance train. Someone noted recently (Brokensneeze?) that mornings were the best times for sneezes, and this 45 minute trip certainly illustrated it. I heard all sorts of sneezes (more male than female, but that was probably just because there were more men than women) but couldn’t see most of them, as Belgian trains have seats with high backs, so you don’t have a general view of the carriage. There was a woman sitting in the next seat forward from me and one of the few people I could see directly. She would have been in her early thirties, very blond (this is Flanders!) long chaotic hair, big blue rimmed glasses, dressed more casually than you would imagine for someone going to work. She was juggling with a couple of newspapers when I heard a loud, only semi-stifled “hitsch TCCHIMMMPFF !!!” and I just had time to see her go into convulsions of three more sneezes, which she stifled almost completely. She just had time to gasp a breath between sneezes, then open her mouth very wide (for train travel) and let go with another sneeze, thrusting forward each time, so that she progressively lost bits of her newspapers. After sneeze number four she opened her mouth again – rather less wide - expectantly, but no sneeze came. She must have been with someone I couldn’t see, as she acknowledged something, only looking slightly embarrassed. About five minutes later, she sneezed another stifled sneeze – another big one – but again, completely stifled. With all this sneezing, she didn’t blow her nose once. I wondered if she habitually sneezed in fours, as this seems to be an unusual number of sneezes to do on a regular basis. Link to comment
