shy guy
I'm not much of a winter person. One of the things I like least about this time of year is driving to and from work in the dark, the few precious hours of daylight being spent while I'm busy at my increasingly futile efforts to make ends meet. Yesterday I left work early, however, in order to attend a Christmas program at my daughter's school. It was a typical winter's day, cold with an overcast sky, but it felt good to be walking toward my car in something other than total darkness.I started my car, drove out of the parking deck and headed down the drive leading to the main road, stopping at the end to wait for the light. At the exact moment I glanced up to check the traffic, the setting sun shone through a break in the clouds, impinging directly on my unprotected eyes. I immediately surrendered myself to the most violent photic sneeze of my entire life, "HAAAARRREHHSHHHHHHH!" My body snapped forward so that my forehead almost hit the steering wheel. I rocked back, took a deep breath and sneezed twice more, a harsh rapid fire double, "HARRRESCHHH, ETSCHHHHHHH!" It took me a few seconds to recover; my upper lip felt quite damp and the steering wheel glistened with a fine mist of sneeze spray. I pulled a hankie from my pocket and gave my nose a much-needed blow. As I pulled out onto the road, I thought to myself that it would have been nice if someone else had heard the sneezes (or perhaps someone did; they were that loud!), but I'm hoping that some of you will enjoy hearing about my photic fit.
