cold survey

1) How many colds have you caught this year?

So far, none.

2) How do your colds start? How do you know you're catching a cold?

My throat gets really raw and it hurts to swallow. Sometimes that'll resolve itself, but I'm positive it's a cold if I wake up the next day feeling run down and still have the raw throat and a drippy nose.

3) Have you ever give someone your cold? How did they catch it from you?

I really don't try to give it to anyone, so when someone gets it from me then it's just from breathing the same air and not taking steps to avoid getting it?

4) Have you ever caught a cold from a co-worker, friend, S.O., family member?

Oh yes. Usually if someone has a cold I am guaranteed to catch it if I'm around them long enough.

5) Do you sneeze uncovered when you have a cold?

Nope, I cover out of habit.

6) Do you take medicine when you have a cold?

Usually dayquil, but I don't think it even does anything.

7) When do you usually catch a cold? What time of the year?

Summer.

8) What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold?

Sore throat, constant sneezing, runny nose, headache, and fatigue.

1) How many colds have you caught this year?

None so far!

2) How do your colds start? How do you know you're catching a cold?

Most of the time I get a pretty mild sore throat, but sometimes they just go straight to me being a sniffly, coughing mess with no warning at all.

3) Have you ever give someone your cold? How did they catch it from you?

Never intentionally, lol, but I don't exactly get hung up about preventing it either? My SO and I definitely don't care about kissing when one of us is sick, for instance.

4) Have you ever caught a cold from a co-worker, friend, S.O., family member?

Of course.

5) Do you sneeze uncovered when you have a cold?

Nah, not even when I'm alone. Habit.

6) Do you take medicine when you have a cold?

Kind of? I have these giant 1000mg vitamin c supplements. If I take them when my throat is sore I can actually kill the cold before it even comes, lol. But I generally only take medicine if it's so bad I can't even sleep.

7) When do you usually catch a cold? What time of the year?

Spring & summer, usually.

8) What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold?

The biggest symptom I have is the fact that my cheekbones ache with everything they have. Other than that standard stuff, sore throat and runny nose. I don't sneeze a lot, and I almost never get fevers for some reason.

1) How many colds have you caught this year? It's January so none! I do sometimes get sneezy, runny, blowy days but that's like one or two days. I haven't had a proper cold for a couple of years, I think the last one before that was several years before that :(

2) How do your colds start? How do you know you're catching a cold? They often start as a sore throat but sometimes they are just sore throats. Others will start as a wet, tickly feeling but I get that a lot anyway. There's a lot of false hope with my nose. Not that I like getting colds but I do like blowing.

3) Have you ever give someone your cold? How did they catch it from you? I'm not sure I have, I've always found colds so embarrassing and I try to stay away from people to hide it, made up excuses to be in my room, there were times my whole family got colds but I don't recall ever being the one who started it

4) Have you ever caught a cold from a co-worker, friend, S.O., family member? Family members yes, I think most of my colds came from them, I didn't really socialise enough to catch them from anyone else.

5) Do you sneeze uncovered when you have a cold? I'm really not good at sneezing, I've become so embarrassed by it, it's natural for me to stop the sneeze, I try to let them out now I live alone but I'm not very good at it. When I have a cold I will always cover unless I have my hands full and can't get to my elbow, over the shoulder is problematic if my hair's down. If I don't have a cold or only have the beginnings, I'll sneeze uncovered (or try to) alone so I can get the full effect. If I'm with other people I will cover but I stop the sneeze so the covering is a precaution.

6) Do you take medicine when you have a cold? If I have to be around people then yes, I'll take a very strong painkiller. I am happy to take decongestants but they all seem to be incompatible with the meds I'm already on, I did try one once but I ended up hallucinating so now I would only take something I knew was safe. I also take throat sweets which seem to help with the cold too.

7) When do you usually catch a cold? What time of the year? My last proper one was at Easter but I can't remember the one before that, I did go through a stage of always having one on my birthday which is autumn but that's stopped now.

8) What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold? It varies but the average cold would be sore throat, slight feeling of congestion, congestion builds up, can't breathe, nose runs, it doesn't usually lead to much sneezing unfortunately :( maybe I should try inducing, I often get that feeling, it's hard to describe, the air goes up my nose quicker than normal, slower than usual for a sneeze and I think is a sneeze coming is it, is it, and for several seconds there's a feeling like I might but then it settles down again. If the sneeze does try to come, it kinds of shoots up my nose in a sort of gasp but then my natural stopping reflex kind of stops it in its tracks and I breathe slowly and silently out :(

1) How many colds have you caught this year?

I have an immune system of steel which I am equally grateful for and proud of.  But this year 2 colds and the flu, the real kind of flu - which by the way, I wish on no one.

2) How do your colds start? How do you know you're catching a cold?

Usually a scratchy throat and relentless thirst.

3) Have you ever give someone your cold? How did they catch it from you?

My baby daddy catches everything.  He has a lousy immune system.  Great guy, jerk when he's ill.

4) Have you ever caught a cold from a co-worker, friend, S.O., family member?

I have a small child.  They are petri dishes of germs.  Usually the germs don't get me.  This year they did.  I blame it on Trump.  I got the flu the day after he was elected.

5) Do you sneeze uncovered when you have a cold?

Not on purpose.

6) Do you take medicine when you have a cold?

Yes, if it's just a cold, I do everything in my power to hide it.

7) When do you usually catch a cold? What time of the year?

Usually never.  I'm standing by that.

8) What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold?

sore throat, runny nose, horse voice, aches.  This last one I have right now landed in my ear.  So here I am, vertigo'd out, posting up a storm!  Again, I am pretty sure it has something to do with Trump.

1) How many colds have you caught this year?

Only 1. Hopefully it'll be the last one. I think it was more like the flu but it was horrible. I lost my voice for like two weeks and I'm a professional public speaker and had tons of events to go to. God it MAJORLY sucked.

2) How do your colds start? How do you know you're catching a cold?

Usually it starts with excessive sneezing and a sore throat.

3) Have you ever give someone your cold? How did they catch it from you?

Ew I hope not.

4) Have you ever caught a cold from a co-worker, friend, S.O., family member?

I don't have a S.O. but I'm sure I have from a co-worker, friend, or family member at some point in my life.

5) Do you sneeze uncovered when you have a cold?

Only if I am completely alone.

6) Do you take medicine when you have a cold?

No. Not unless it's serious.

7) When do you usually catch a cold? What time of the year?

Usually in the winter, exam time, or at the change of seasons.

8) What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold?

Usually it's excessive sneezing, a really bad sore throat, and almost always a fever. I also get really bad coughs that last for weeks after. :/

1) How many colds have you caught this year?

Only one so far (in January 2020).

2) How do your colds start? How do you know you're catching a cold?

The 1st sign is a sore throat that gets progressively worse, sometimes a mild headache and slight weariness.

I'm sure I'm getting sick when my nose starts running/gets stuffy/my congestion thickens.

3) Have you ever give someone your cold? How did they catch it from you?

Yes,I'm sure I have! I always try not to spread my germs everywhere, but sometimes it's inevitable, especially when you don't live alone.

4) Have you ever caught a cold from a co-worker, friend, S.O., family member?

I caught colds from my friends a lot, also from my father.

5) Do you sneeze uncovered when you have a cold?

No,even if I'm alone. I used to use my hands (I know, gross!),but now I sneeze into the crook of my elbow/tissues.

6) Do you take medicine when you have a cold?

Only if I have a fever/a bad cough.

7) When do you usually catch a cold? What time of the year?

Usually autumn/winter/both.

I often get sick in early autumn when I go back to school (the end of September gets me almost every year!).

I'm also prone to falling ill when I'm stressed out.

What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold?

A sore throat that worsens throughout the 1st 2 days which then tapers off (usually on the 3rd day),a runny nose and a tiny bit of sneezing (only at the beginning and I never get sneezy colds),horrible congestion and sometimes a low grade fever and a cough : my voice always sounds soo stuffed up,I can't pronounce ms and ns at all (that begins on the 2nd/3rd day, when the congestion starts setting in,and usually vanishes when my nose is not clogged anymore).

My stuffiness usually lingers on for a few days when all the other symptoms are gone.

How many colds have you caught this year?

I think 4 so far

2) How do your colds start? How do you know you're catching a cold?

Normally a day when I'm extra sneezy followed by a day or two of a sore throat

3) Have you ever give someone your cold? How did they catch it from you?

Pretty certain I've given colds to my girlfriend, family members, workmates, roommates, just from being in close proximity

4) Have you ever caught a cold from a co-worker, friend, S.O., family member?

Definitely from my girlfriend and my family members, pretty certain I've caught them from several workmates as well

5) Do you sneeze uncovered when you have a cold?

It's kind of a half and half all the time whether I just sneeze uncovered or into my hands. However during the peak of a cold I'll almost always cover if I know it's going to be a messy one

6) Do you take medicine when you have a cold?

Only for a cough normally, I also use nasal spray for congestion

7) When do you usually catch a cold? What time of the year?

All round: almost always catch one during the summer-autumn and spring-summer season changes plus one or two during winter and often one in summer

😎 What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold?

Typically a couple days where I'm just sneezy/run down with a sore throat, then a couple of days where I'm sneezy and my nose is getting super runny, then finally about 3-4 days where the congestion has set in and my nose is still very productive but the sneezing has stopped

8) What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold?

1) 0, zero for several years.

2) I don’t even remember getting a cold.

3) the only ones I can remember was when I was young and spread the cold to my family. I think we just infected ourselves by sharing common areas.

4) yes, from siblings most of the time and friends.

5) if I’m alone

6) if is a light cold no, I just let it be and enjoy it. If it gets annoying or I want to stop symptoms then yes.

7) winter and spring

8) runny nose that turns into plugged nose. Sore throat and father some days wet cough.

1) How many colds have you caught this year?

Only one.

2) How do your colds start? How do you know you're catching a cold?

It always starts with a sore throat that feels like I'm swallowing sandpaper.

3) Have you ever give someone your cold? How did they catch it from you?

Yes I've given it to housemates (being in the same room and sharing surfaces etc) and my boss (working closely together in an office).

4) Have you ever caught a cold from a co-worker, friend, S.O., family member?

Yes many times.

5) Do you sneeze uncovered when you have a cold?

Only if I'm alone and not near anyone else, but even then I'll usually cover.

6) Do you take medicine when you have a cold?

Yes but I find it doesn't really work. I used to love cold and flu meds but since you can't get anything good over the counter anymore, I don't find much effect.

7) When do you usually catch a cold? What time of the year?

Winter but occasionally summer.

😎 What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold?

It always starts with a sore throat that feels like I'm swallowing sandpaper. Progresses to a very runny nose like a dripping tap with lots of sneezing, very very sneezy. Then the congestion (blocked nose) starts, at first the very frequent sneezing continues and the dripping nose at the same time as it feeling blocked. All through this I usually have a really sore throat and just feel generally yuck. As I get even more snotty and congested I start sneezing less and the sore throat gets better. Some colds I'll produce a huge amount of snot, others not much. At this point I may get sore sinuses and a headache. Without fail, it then spreads to my chest and I get a chesty cough and lots of phlegm, that's my least favourite part!

😎 What symptoms do you usually have when you have a cold? Sore throat and painful swallowing, sneezing, congestion, runny nose, cough (only if it’s a chest cold)
