The first book in the Beka Cooper series, Terrier, has a short chapter where the main character (female) has a cold. I believe a few other characters sneeze within the book as well, though I can't seem to remember who.

Ok, so I'm starting to wonder about the author of The Goldfinch. Absolutely fantastic, albeit incredibly long, book. But the main character has SO FAR FROM WHERE I'M AT, been sick 3 times, all three of those times have AT LEAST 10 sneezes a piece.

I can't even make this up, literal quotes from this book include:

"I pinched my nose so I wouldn't sneeze."

"His nose reddened and I thought he was going to sneeze."

"...hand over my mouth, trying to choke back a sneeze."

"...but had fallen into another fit of sneezing."

"Caught between sneezes, I gave a Russian accented shrug I'd picked up from Boris."

"The cold in my head made me seem nasal and block-witted."

"I nearly chocked since my throat was too raw to swallow."

"Now you look very shook, very shook indeed and-bless you! Bad dose of something indeed."

"I turned my head away to stifle a wet, burbling sneeze."

I mean dude...

The Goldfinch is a brilliant book - I read that about a year ago, but don't recall especially registering the sneezing references. Probably because I was so caught up in the story!

A book that would definitely make you think the author had a particular interest in sneezing is In The Approaches by Nicola Barker. It's fantastically odd (& very funny) in a very English way and a great read beyond any fetish style moments, although if you look at the reviews you get a good idea that it's the kind of book people either really love or really hate.

But I've also read pretty much everything else the author has written and there's nothing similar (sneezing wise) in any of those.

Okay, I bought "Pure Dead Frozen" on Google Books and searched within it for any mention of any conjugation of the word 'sneeze' or any of the obvious related words ('tickle', tingle', 'itch', 'nose', 'urge') and no results are coming up. I then did the same with every other book in the series, just in case the original poster remembered the wrong volume, and still no dice. So I now formally challenge the people who made this list to prove that the much-vaunted 'almost-sneezing-while-hiding' scene is not apocryphal, or worse, mythical. After all, this is an online fetishist porn forum...if we can't be held accountable for our claims, how could we possibly look ourselves in the mirror? We have a code of ethics, godammit. And so I offer this challenge...give me information that will enable me to find said scene (I skimmed a hardcover of the book pretty closely and I didn't find it there either, so at this point this has become more about proving to myself that this scene exists than any interest in the scene itself), or face the shame of knowing you have failed your due diligence as internet pervs! What say you, Forumites?! Will you meet my challenge?!

There is a part in "Trials of Apollo" where Percy catches a cold, and sneezes multiple times. The author, Rick Riordan, also added some congestion into the words in there.

Donna Tartt, right? There's a scene in one of her other books, The Secret History, in which a character catches a cold and it's similarly... indulgent. I wonder, too.

Sorry if I've missed this before - I don't look at this thread often (or as often as maybe I should ;) ). I found this and got really excited in another thread in Media. The e-book is called "Cross Stitch" and it seems to be about two time-traveling women.

The two main characters, women, sneezing out of control for no revealed reason. They stop as quickly and abruptly as they begin. Great spellings and discussion. Enjoy!

Recently I've read several of Liane Moriarty books and she usually has a little bit of sneezing (typically female) in her books. I just finished Three Wishes...a story about the lives of three women who are triplets. They all have allergies and sneeze quite a bit...or maybe I just noticed it more ?

The book 'Transition' by Iain Banks contains male sneezing throughout (on at least 6 occasions throughout the story) as well as some gratuitous blessing scenes :D

As I've posted here before, Iain Banks' books are goldmines for sneeze fetishists. The guy must have had something for sneezes (he is sadly recently departed) and usually both male and female sneezes get a mention in his amazingly written books. Definitely worth checking out his work, sneezes or not :)

God since I mentioned The Goldfinch before, I found this. And this is just SOME of the sneezing, AND keep in mind that this is JUST the sneezing, nevermind all the in depth descriptions of being sick. I mean does this or does this not sound like the author has a fetish...

If it wasn't so ungodly long I'd kill to read this book again, for reasons besides the sneezing lol.

sorry if this has already been mentioned but what I like to do is either use my name or pick the first name name of someone I find attractive then do a google books search and for the name with the word sneezed or blew her nose or whatever I want to read, then you can go to the book and read all the good bits.

I like this one, scroll back to the start of Chapter 13

The Immortal instruments mentions Izzy (fem) and Alec (male) lightwood have really bad hayfever/ specific flower allergies..

In the epilogue of "lady Midnight" by cassandra clare, Izzy (fem) has an allergic reaction to Tulips. actually sneezes included.

The Infernal Devices Series "Jem (James)"(male) is coughing and unsteady throughout the books. Don't know if that counts for you or not?

yes, these are the same universe.. All by cassandra Clare.

The book 'Salamander' by Thomas Wharton has some great sneezes. 1 female (with great build-up description) and two male, plus more than the average references to sneezing. It always makes me wonder when an author seems to be going out of their way to include sneezing... ;)

This is awesome! My to-read list it's getting longer :D Off the top of my head I can only add a few, will be back with more when I have it....

1. My all time favourite book,  The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, has a mention of Clare having a cold (sniffly, red nose...) for her 18th birthday that she spends with a time travelling Henry. When he gets back to the present there is a mention of Henry catching the cold Clare had XX years ago. Unfortunately not more than that, but I always have to take a moment to imagine it  I read this book several times per year, and have done so since I first read it. I LOVE the story! And the characters are dear friend by now

2. I recently read the Selection-series by Kiera Cass, YA-books (I know I'm to old for that, but I like it :) ) I think it was in the 3rd book (The One) that there was a mention of something like "she heard someone sneeze close to her" and in the 5th book (The Crown) an awesome reference to the twin brother having had a cold and sneezed in the middle of his first kiss and it apparently had been very messy. It was so unexpected I felt like I was struck by lightning

I thought of another one, but I'm not sure in which books it was... I have so far read 4 of the books in the series of The Others by Anne Bishop, and I in two of them Nathan Wolfgard sneezed at least once while in wolf form. No specific focus on it but great books anyway! I'll probably read these again soon enough so I'll be sure to give the titles then. I just keep hoping that Simon Wolfgard will catch a cold, it's so cute the way he is discovering the human emotions and reactions of his human body and I think his confusion with the illness would be amazing :D Anyway, there's still hope as a 5th book is out and apparently a 6th is coming next year.

I thought it might just be me being overly sensitive, but looking at all of the excerpts conveniently listed in one spot, Donna Tartt really does seem to add a lot of sneezing, and specifically male sneezing, into her books. :D

I recently came across another example of a book with a lot of male sneezing inside, Hired Bride by Noelle Adams. It sounds like a pretty boring and clichéd contemporary romance, but the good part of that is that you don't have to read it to pretty much know exactly what is going on at any point, and it is pretty easy to find it in full online and then find and read only the interesting parts. :D^_^

This gets added to my to-read list :D Sometimes the brain needs a break, and boring clichéd contemporary romance with plenty of sneezes sounds like just the thing

What helyzelle said. Out of curiosity, when you said it was available online, did you mean for free (either to download or read online) or to buy? Because I don't mind buying it, but I'd feel kind of stupid if I did, and then it turned out I could have read it for free.

I meant to download and/or read online for free. I can't remember precisely where I found it any more, but if you don't manage to or if it's no longer there, let me know and I'll try to send you the ePub and Mobi files I downloaded, since I've still got them. ^_^ (I wanted to message you and do so already, but I'm not sure if I don't have the privileges yet or if I am simply too incompetent and exhausted to figure it out at the moment. :sleep2::P )

Okay guys I know I posted about it on here somewhere else a while back when I was on the second book....but...I'm going to go ahead and call it. Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander series...she HAS to be one of us. I mean I'm on the 5th book, and not a single one goes by without the mention of sneezing or illness, usually in reference to the main character, Jamie.

There's obviously a lot of plot and wonderful character development and such, but even then the character's noses are ALWAYS mentioned. Right now Jamie is sick again, and although she doesn't spell out the sneezes...she mentions them. And in the second book he had an allergy attack from hyacinth. The first couple of times I thought...oh well this must tie into the plot later. Nope. It was just there.

I mean, it reads like a fic sometimes! A lot of hurt/comfort. God it's wonderful. But I just can't help but think....she MUST be one of us. Right? If not, why so often? I mean, trust me I am NOT complaining, just burning with curiosity.

Thoughts? Anyone out there read some, if not all of the Outlander series? Mmmmh Jamie is delicious!

I downloaded the first book on audible to listen to while I travel.  Can someone tell me if there is any in the first book?  I’m a good ways in, and nothing.

I don't remember anything major in the first book but it's been a while since I read it. Definitely no sneezing. Jaime is hurt and runs a fever for a few chapters. Some lovely caretaking.

I like the caretaking, but I was so hoping for sneezing too at some point.  The books are so long, so I’m questioning whether I want to download the second one next.
