Making it Tough to Concentrate

I've been running a week-long conference with lots of important business people. My job is to make sure they all get where they're supposed to be on time, have what they need for their presentation, etc. Basically, I'm their work mothers. I so hate it. However, this week I had an incredible observation I've been dying to share here.

The subject of my observation was a very distinguished, professional businessman. Although older, he's very attractive--squared face, grey hair, glasses, suit and tie. Very sophisticated and sure of himself. He came into the conference center yesterday morning and, since I had some paperwork I needed him to sign, I grabbed my clipboard and a pen and walked over to him. We said good morning to each other and I handed him the clipboard. He signed the forms and gave them back. I was just about to ask if he needed anything when he turned his head and sneezed a sharp, breathy Hehhihhshh!!

"Bless you," I said.

"Thank you," he replied. I asked if he needed anything and if he was enjoying his stay. He said something...I don't remember what ^_^ because after replying, he sneezed exactly the same way did before. No buildup or warning. He just turned his head to the side, covered his nose and mouth with one hand and sneezed Hehhihhshh!!. I didn't say anything this time. After just a few seconds reprieve, he sneezed again, but this time it was a double. Hehhihhshh!! HehhIHHSH!!

"You okay?" I asked. I think I even touched him on the shoulder. I often do that--don't know why, just one of my things. He smiled and said he was fine. People were taking their seats and getting ready for the opening speaker so we went our separate ways. I ended up sitting two or three rows in front of him and several feet to the left. Every ten to twelve seconds he would sneeze a single Hehhihhshh!! It went on for (what seemed like) forever I was so glad I couldn't see him because I knew I was blushing. I just stared down at my notes and avoided eye contact with everyone. As the speaker was giving his presentation this poor man sneezed 18 times! They were all singles and all spaced out by about ten seconds. I couldn't concentrate on anything except counting the seconds in between sneezes.

The thing that sort of blew my mind was that he didn't leave the room, or blow his nose, or anything. He just seemed perfectly content to sit there and sneeze over and over in front of all those people. Once he finally stopped he was done. I didn't hear him sneeze one more time the entire conference.

Whew!! Wild stuff.

Mmmmm...sneezy silver fox. :P I'm imagining someone not unlike Tim Gunn.

Le sigh. What a perfect scenario. I would've been so tempted to sneak peeks at him while he sneezed, though.

Yummy! That sounds almost too good to be true! You lucky thing, that kind of stuff never happens to me! Thanks for sharing

I always thought this was the kind of thing I'd really like to watch but I was really, really uncomfortable. I know this sounds totally irrational, but I was afraid people could tell what was going on in my head. Silly right?

WHEW. I wouldn't be able to concentrate at all, I'd be too busy squirming in my seat. I'm squirming a bit just thinking about it...

Excellent observation, thank you so much.
