NoV
We all know that sneezing can be pretty embarrassing when it comes at the wrong moment, but what have been the times when it has been most inconveinient? What have been the sneezing moments you would maybe want to forget? Please share.... Link to comment
VoOs
I can only remember one time, about four or five years ago, and I don't think anyone actually noticed when it happened, but apparently it was embarrassing enough to stay in my memory. *laugh*To make a short story even shorter: VoOs steps out into bright sunlight, her photic reflex kicks in, there are other people around, so she prepares to stifle, completely and silently, the way she always does when other people are present. No biggie, right?Wrong. Not this one. A rather humbling experience, as embarrassing as it was. Edited March 19, 2011 by VoOs Link to comment
shy guy
Several years ago, I went to work in the morning with what felt like the beginnings of a cold, and it came on so fast that by mid-afternoon the cold had fully blossomed into all of it's sneezy splendor. I had to walk through the management suite and my boss stopped me to ask some questions. I felt a powerful sneeze coming on, and although I usually don't stifle my sneezes I was trying really hard to stifle this one, at least until I could get out into the hall. The sneeze just wouldn't go away, and it seemed like the conversation was going on for an eternity, so I finally had to turn and sneezed this ridiculously loud triple, "HEEEEEH-SCHOOOO-CHOOO-CHOOO" which left me bent over in two and gasping for breath. I pulled out my hankie to cover my snotty face, excused myself, and headed out the door.Even retelling the story years later still makes me feel embarrassed! Link to comment
Butch
ERGH..this whole topic makes me embarrassed all over again!Definitely has to be my teenage years... when I had a bad cold, and I HAD to sneeze.. in the public library, right near the checkout line/entryway, where ALL these people were milling about on the main floor, but where you could also see the stairs going up to the upper floor. I have NEVER been able to stifle.. so I felt the sneeze coming on.. and I quickly pinched my nose shut with my fingers, but I couldn't stop the sneeze.. so I can't even spell how it sounded, but it was LOUD and echoed through the library. eww.. yeah.. recalling that makes me all squirmy. lemonade
i remember i think the most embarrassing sneeze of my life. it has been welded into my mind. May 17. 6th grade. i had written a very good poem, and my teacher thought that i should read it over the loudspeaker during the morning announcements. the pollen count: 330. as if that wasnt enough, the office also kept a bouquet of flowers by the microphone. i was reading along, when i felt that i needed to sneeze. i still had 9 more stanzas, and i couldnt stop. so i tried to surpress it, but failed. "in my side of the garde- eh eh-choo!" the first sneeze was only the beginning. i always sneeze in doubles, sometimes triples, but as i say, this day was an exception. i had a real fit and i couldnt finish my poem. the secretary had to finish it while i was taken to the nurse! can you imagine how much shit i got when i got back to class! it was terrible. if anyone would like to share their thoughts on this, please have them be friendly, kind or sympathetic. i do not wish to be teased. I don't think you have to be worried about being made fun of here, we would all sympathize and pity you for such an experience. I've never had anything quite so public, just that it seems when I sneeze because of the sunlight, my mom will sometimes say something like "Yes, I remember when you were little, you've always been that way.." and I always wonder why she feels the need to bring it up.. TheCakeIsAlive
Hmmm... can't remember anything outrageously embarrassing... however, I think this might qualify...I was working in a computer room where you're basically discouraged to break the silence. Suddenly I was rang by a friend and after checking whether I was alone for as far as possible, I thought it couldn't hurt to answer... Well... I got past the word 'hi' before I was suddenly overwhelmed by the urge to sneeze. Thankfully she ignored it but still, really rather embarrassing. Link to comment
Morningsmith
I've got three memories that stand out, all from the last five years or so.1) A mini-attack of four large sneezes while in a one-on-one meeting with a thesis advisor back in college. I had a crush on her, just to intensify mattters.2) A sneezing fit in a large shared office where I used to work. Probably eight or nine sneezes. Embarassment was hugely exascerbated by a slightly matronly co-worked who shouted a dramatic "bless you" after each sneeze, and then came to my desk with a box of tissues and said "now blow your nose." All this in front of like ten people. Who does that?3) This fall, mini-attack while teaching. Ultimately not a big deal on its own, but I'm worried it will become one about a month from now when my major league allergies start their season. Sneezing at the front of the class... I love it when it's other people.I have vague memories of embarrassing sneezing fits in the last two years of high school, teachers blessing me and so on, but no single thing stands out. Probably an effect of memory, and also of the fact that my allergies first got really significant around 17. Link to comment
Just Older
When I was in highschool, in HomeEc class (for lack of the right thing to call that class), I had a cold. I was perfectly fine the whole rest of the cold except this one moment. I always hold off my sneezes and they fizzle out to nothing. Not this time. Not only did I feel ridiculous trying to stop the sneeze, but when I did sneeze, it was so messy.I remember trying to wipe the snot away casually like nothing had happened but I knew everyone was watching me. *shudder* Link to comment
murphy dee
I was probably 11 or 12, walking to the bathroom after holding it for the whole class period. I sneezed just as I reached the door and peed my pants. I spent about a half hour in there and missed most of my next class while waiting to kind of dry off somewhat, and thankfully I had a sweatshirt to tie around my waist, but still. So f'ing humiliating. Link to comment
lemonade
you're right. i'm actually new around here, and i'm not quite familiar with the way everyone considers things like that. it was a pretty "duh" thing to say. Link to comment
RunWhileYouStillCan
A bit off topic, but still related...I was playing call of duty once in search and destroy (game type where u only get one life) felt a sneeze, brushed it off most6 of the round only 30 seconds left and it all fell apart, lost my composer sneezed , pulled the grenade trigger killed myself.... It probably wasn't the sneeze so embarrassing, only if I wasn't the last person left and all I had to do to win was defuse the bomb placed at the target.... Link to comment
norcal tinkfan
I was in college and had a cold...but thought I may have ended up with a sinus infection or something because I was running somewhat of a high temp. This was before they started using the thermometer they poke in your ear. I had the thermometer under my tongue when my nose started running. I sniffed & that caused a tickle I couldn't get rid of. The machine beeped and she took it out. Before I could grab for a tissue...I sneezed a wet sneeze with a good bit of spray all over including a bit on her. She told me I wasn't the first that day. Still was embarrassed though! Link to comment
Chanel_no5
Go onnnnn... I shall like to hear more of your embarrassing sneeze episodes... As for myself, don't have any. Not that I can reacall, anyway. Link to comment

The Dude
For me it had to be when I was 15, and our class went to see a Shakespeare in the park presentation of "The Twelfth Night." We were seated on a grassy hill overlooking the stage, and I had one of the worst allergy attacks I can remember. People were turning their heads because I kept sneezing through Act 2, Act 3, etc. At one point my classmate jokingly whispered "keep it down, Sneezoid!" or something to that effect. I was so paranoid that I was going to disrupt the play. Luckily I carried hankies at the time, which was a habit my grandparents got me into. I was a mess! Link to comment
Icee
my parents don't know, i have no idea how to tell them, but when ever i sneeze like in the car or something, my dad will be all 'oh, my god, bless you, do you have a cold, do you need to go to the hospital, you sneezed that's very serious' and then he gets all upset when i motuh off or ask him to stop Link to comment
Guest dancingcolors
Whenever I sneeze in front of my dad, especially when I was younger, its so embarrassing for me >.< I used to have a huge mental block and wasn't able to sneeze in front of my boyfriend for the first two years of our almost now 4 year relationship. Sneezing at work is embarrassing too. Link to comment

At first I thought you were holding back the sneeze for the whole class. But it seems that things were more complicated than that. Link to comment
FreeFluShots
I've never really had an embarrassing experience with my sneezing, but I have had a couple of embarrassing moments when I was in middle school and someone in class would have a sneezing fit, and I would get rather obviously... um... 'aroused' under my desk. D: Fortunately I never got called up to the board or anything, so hopefully no-one noticed! I did have an embarrassing close-call yesterday though, in which I had drawn a picture of this character I like sneezing, and I forgot I had left it in the living room with that picture RIGHT on the top, when my roommate got home from work... Fortunately I managed to flip it over really fast before she saw it. Link to comment
snuffles
This was actually embarrassingly recent, I was at work with a cold... a bad cough mostly so I was ok as long as I constantly sucked on a cough drop.Someone approached me and while I was talking to him I felt my chest constrict and wheeze like I needed to cough, realizing belatedly I wasn't eating a cough drop, so I tried to discretely cough like I had practiced- clamp my mouth shut and lightly cough from my chest. I don't know if that triggered a sneeze or if it just wasn't a cough to begin with but the result was a completely failed and unexpected stifle that ended up spraying him just slightly. I have never been able to stifle and this one was too unprepared to stand a chance. Link to comment
ILoveTheSound
I have a sneeze story that is SO embarrassing that, as a new poster to the board, I don't know if I should tell. It would definitely give everyone insight as to the type of kook I can be. But I just don't know... Link to comment
