[Natto]

Hello there everyone! At dove's urging, I decided to try my hand at the drabble idea once again, this time with a different fandom. These drabbles will be about Yu-Gi-Oh DM, GX, and 5D's. There will be a combination of male and female sneezing (though mostly male), and I'll be making use of both colds and allergies (though mostly colds). Prompt #100 – Airplane

Hurtling through the sky in a dragon-shaped jet ought to thrilling, and usually, it is. Today, though, Kaiba Seto is distracted by the health of his younger brother, Mokuba. Last night, Mokuba had a sore throat and a stuffy nose. Today, he can't stop sneezing, can't stop coughing, and mucus is pouring out of his nose. When he says that the air pressure is hurting his ears, Kaiba wants to land the plane right there. Unfortunately, they're in the middle of the ocean, so all he can do for Mokuba is hand him a tissue and tell him to blow.

Prompt #14 – Frail

Manjoume wouldn't call himself frail. Other people might, but that would be because they were jealous of how much money he has and how infinitely skilled he is at attracting girls and playing card games. Frail is an imperfection, and Manjoume doesn't have any of those. The fact that he's caught six colds this year and it's only mid-march means nothing. Neither either does his current inability to go ten seconds without blowing his nose. He's Manjoume Thunder, and if he has to he can buy a new immune system. He is not now, nor will he ever be, frail.

Prompt #2 – Science Fiction

"Heshhiew! Hyechiiou!" This is the smallest sneezing fit that Johan's had all day. His sinuses are still on fire with it, but his breath isn't hitching and he doesn't think he'll sneeze again for another few minutes. Amethyst Cat slinks over to him, and rubs her cheek against his face. "Are you alright?" she purrs. Johan was wrong about not sneezing. His head pitches forward, and he explodes into his hands.

"M-my, my doctor told me I was...heshoo! Shoo! Allergic to, hechoo! Cats, but I didn't t-think that that applied to...HACHOO! Card spirits," says Johan, sniffling harshly.

EEEEEEEEEE! I am squealing so much right now, and typing 'E' a million times really doesn't go to show how happy you've made me. I am SUCH a huge GX fan, you have no idea, and reading these drabbles has basically put me over the moon in happiness. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Until now I think my (rather crappy) dub-fic has been the only one for the fandom, and it makes me SO happy to see another. I am totally in love with this. Reading about Johan sneezing kind of made my dreams come true <3.

@ PaperThings - I'm so glad you enjoyed them! I'm a huge GX fan too. I actually like it a lot more than DM, though I do like DM quite a bit too. I'm probably be writing MOSTLY GX here, though I will try to have a variety. And yes, most people seem to like Johan! He's actually not one of my favorites, but the idea of him being ill or allergic is quite appealling to me nevertheless. He's quite pretty. XD;

Prompt #92 – Victory

Allergic tears make his eyesight swampy, and his constantly tickling nose makes it difficult to concentrate. If this duel took place indoors, Ed would have probably won, but as they're outside on a gorgeous summer afternoon. Clouds of pollen float lazily through the air, turning every breath into a struggle not to sneeze. Next time, he'll stuff himself with antihistamines and decongestants, but for now he must be kind and concede the victory to her. “Congra...congratula...ahhh...con...ahhhHIPSHIEW! You did...hyesshhh! Wonderfully. I wish you luck in your future...hhhhchuch! En...dev...oursachoo! Sorry.” It's not surprising, but Ed's opponent refuses to shake his hand.

Prompt #46 – Enraptured

Asuka is beautiful, stunningly so, and there's nothing in the world that can change that. Her nose might be red as a headlight, and she might be sniffling every fifteen seconds, but to Manjoume she's still a vision. It doesn't matter if her nose whistles and honks when she blows it, or if her pockets are full of ratty tissues, or if her hair isn't combed or there are dark circles under her eyes. It doesn't matter if she fails to cover her sneezes or wear a sanitary mask. She's Asuka, she's beautiful, and Manjoume adores her no matter what.

Prompt #50 – Gentle

“ACKSHOO!” Judai catches his sneeze in a crumpled paper towel, then blows his nose with thunderous force. His nostrils are singed with red, and likely sore, but that doesn't stop him. He blows again, loud as a saxophone. Sniffling, he complains that he's still stuffed up, and that his nose hurts. Shou sighs, and tells him that he ought to be more gentle. “We'll get you some actual tissues. That might help. Once you have those, you have to blow your nose slowly, one nostril at a time, okay?” Judai responds by honking violently into the paper towel.

Eep, yay! I love these so, so much.

Okay, so Edo is one of my three favorite characters (the others being Ryo and Judai, though I do love every. single. person. in that show, really), so YAY . Teehee. You write so well, too! It's wonderful. I love the idea of him being allergic to pollen. He's such a controlled person, it warms my heart.

And then the second one made me laugh, the bit about the sanitary mask. That's so Manjoume to me <3. I've always liked Asuka with him more than anyone else, though this is one of those shows where pairing any of them together makes me happy.

And awww poor Judai . He's so cute when he's miserable, and you describe it perfectly. I love that Shou has to teach him how to blow his nose. *giggle*

@ PaperThings - Oh dear god, the pain! The idea of anyone enjoying my work and telling me about it is just appalling! XD;; Thank you very much for your detailled comment, it made me happy. I like almost everyone on GX save for a few characters. I think my favorite is probably Shou, but they're all quite likeable, aren't they? I feel like I'm going to make everyone allergic to at least one thing by the time this series of drabbles is finished. Ed is no exception! And yeah, Manjoume is kuku-bananas about Asuka. I'm not sure she reciprocates, but he literally gets hearts in his eyes over her! Hee. The third one was my favorite to write, because I totally ship Shou/Judai. XD;

Prompt #76 – Lullaby

Two months into his first year at Duel Academy, Shou get the flu. He gets a fever than makes him shake, a rib-crunching cough, an aching head, and a drippy, congested nose that won't let him sleep. After three miserable nights of no sleep and uncontrollable sneezing, he begins to cry with frustration. He's never been sick away from home before, he's exhausted, and he doesn't think Judai or Hayato will hear him. Judai hears. He makes a cup of tea and takes it up to Shou's bunk, then rubs his back and sings to him until he falls asleep.

Prompt #34 – Relief

Johan has been on the brink of sneezing for days. Japan is full of plants that he's never encountered and is apparently allergic to, and on top of that, he's caught a cold. Unfortunately, all that tickling and burning and sniffing and itching hasn't resulted in one single sneeze. His breath hitches dramatically, deep ahhhhhhhs that make his chest heave and his nostrils flare, but it never culminates. Frustration drives him to snorting pollen and shoving Q-Tips up his nose. Nothing happens.

After two more days, relief arrives. Johan throws his head back, takes a breath, and has a fit.

Prompt #39 – Muffle

Haga and Ryuzaki had put very little thought into their plan to stow away on the plane to California, so it's no surprise that Ryuzaki didn't bother to check whether the bag was clean before they crammed themselves inside. As a person with severe dust allergies, he should have. Because he didn't think ahead, he'd had to spend fourteen hours zipped into a dusty suitcase, stifling soundless sneezes against the back of Haga's head. When they finally escaped, Haga's hair was soaked with snot, and Ryuzaki dashed into a nearby coffee shop to sneeze loudly into a handful of napkins.

Haha, okay, I'm glad you don't mind . Ooh, I totally ship Judai/Shou too! Well, I ship Judai with just about anyone, save Asuka, but Shou is one of my favorites to pair him with as well. And I do love Shou too, he's adorable.

Anyway, the drabbles!

Squee! Lullaby is probably my favorite you've done so far. First of all, sickness aside, the idea of Judai singing is simply the sweetest thing ever <3. And wow, poor Shou! I wish it weren't so cute, or else I would just feel so incredibly badly for him . You describe flu symptoms very, very well.

I loveee Relief too. The idea of Johan inducing amuses me to no end (though it really shouldn't... the poor guy, having a cold and allergies all at the same time), and the ending is well-deserved (for him and the reader! )

I don't know the Yugioh DM characters *quite* as well, because I didn't know the show too well when it first aired and have thus only seen maybe a third of the episodes. But teehee, poor Ryuzaki. This one amused me as well.

I love these so much. I have been checking the site so much more often than usual, checking for an update. Thank you so much for writing these .

@PaperThings - Shou is absolutely adorable, which makes him prime torture material. XD; I'm trying to be varied and hit on a number of characters, but don't be surprised if he turns up ill rather a lot here.

I wanted to put a bit more detail into "Relief" than I was able to given the word limit. I would have liked to have described his sneezing fit. But part of the challenge is sticking to 100 words, at least for me it is. I like writing cutesy nonsense like in "Lullaby," Shou and Judai are just so cute. XD; As for DM, I feel the same. I didn't actually start watching it until I'd finished GX...I'm not done with it yet so there's a lot I don't know. As you can see, I'm focusing more on GX. I'll have to have more DM next time--this batch is all GX. XD;

Prompt #99 – Lazy

Usually, Fubuki is quite good about doing his schoolwork. It isn't his good looks that put him at the top of his class, but relentless study and practice. Today, despite the mountain of work that awaits him, he doesn't want to do a thing. The cold he caught from Fujiwara is tapering off, but he's tired and he just wants to lay about drinking tea and blowing his nose. Fujiwara says he wants to catch the cold back from him tonight. Fubuki is usually game for a make-out, but he's lazy and ill, so he turns on the TV instead.

Prompt #43 – Contagion

Last week, Rei had a cold. She saved her used tissues and rubbed them on Judai's deck and duel disk. Yesterday, Judai had shown up to class with glassy eyes and a glowing nose. He'd coughed and sniffled all day long, and once he sneezed so hard he hit his head on the desk. Today, he didn't show up, and when Rei called to see how he was, he sounded so scratchy and stuffy that she couldn't understand him. She felt guilty, but listening to his adorable snuffling and moaning about needing desperately to sneeze killed the guilt, just temporarily.

Prompt #55 – Ruin

“Ickushuu!” That sneeze had punched a hole through a wall of congestion, and now Shou's nose is flooding. He fumbles for something to mop up the mess, and the first thing he finds is one of Kenzan's dinosaur bandannas. With another sneeze brewing and a line of mucus trailing past his lip, he doesn't think about what he's using. After drenching the poor cloth with snot, he looks up at Kenzan with bleary eyes.

Kenzan is furious. “You ruined my dinosaur bandanna!” he yells, huge arms flying in the air. Shou tries to apologize, but he sneezes, instead.

I have to admit, I've never seen Yu-Gi-Oh, but these make me smile!

Awww Fubuki! Do you ship Fubuki/Fujiwara too, then? I'm also caught between those two and Ryo and Edo, who I want to pair with whom. Anyway, that was lovely. And I think you've caught his character perfectly, as he is most definitely one of the lazier people on that show.

HAHA, I love Contagion. The idea of Rei as a fetishist (or almost one) is kind of perfect, and I love that she'd actually go and try to make him sick. Plus, you describe his symptoms beautifully. And the image of him hitting his head is so, so Judai .

Okay, I loved Ruin as well. You're right - Shou's adorable nature makes him perfect for these. You really just want to hug him! And I love Kenzan getting mad at him. It's all just so in characters, it's perfect.

@ PaperThings - No problem! Sorry I didn't update yesterday, I was spending time with the boyfriend. I do try to be quick when I can be, though.

Anyway. Yes, I ship Fubuki/Fujiwara. It's not that I'm in love with the pairing so much as it was just...blatantly obvious. It's one of those "practically canon" pairings, at least in my mind. And yes, Fubuki does tend to be a bit droopy and sad about things when he isn't being incredibly cheerful. Yay for being multifaceted? I couldn't help making Rei a fetishist. She's already got some fairly unusual ways of expressing her love, and she just...seems like the type. She's also the type who would actually go far enough to do something about it. And yes, Shou is cute. *pokes him* I love being mean to cute things.

Prompt #85 – Teacher

When I get my hands on that grubby little drop-out boy I'm going to wring his neck. The nerve of him, coming into my class sneezing his head off, spreading his nasty little germs all over my classroom! Thanks to his vile display, I'm coming down with what promises to be an utterly dreadful cold. Unlike that pitiful slacker, I have responsibilities. I haven't got time to be ill. Next time I see that Judai, which may not be tomorrow if this cold keeps me home, I'll have to teach him a thing or two about hygiene. Na no ne!

Prompt #8 – Joy

Johan buries his crimson nose in a tissue. His eyes squeeze shut, and he sneezes hard enough to break the tissue. After blowing his nose, the used tissue joins twenty others in a plastic bag on Johan's lap. He says, “Judai, I'b goig to hab to cadcel our plads. I'b sick.” Judai nods, but he doesn't seem too put out or concerned. Shou's heart leaps in his chest. It isn't good that Johan's ill, but it's good that he won't be eating up Aniki's time. It's selfish, but Shou can't help rejoicing every time poor Johan coughs or sniffles.

Prompt #94 – Photo

“'Nii-sama, stay still!” says Mokuba. Kaiba wanted to update the KaibaCorp website with a photograph of himself using the duel disc, but it isn't going well. He'd insisted on taking it outside, next to his stone dragon statue. This means standing underneath a sakura tree, which means that instead of posing, Kaiba is bobbing his head in an attempt to stifle a sneezing fit. Mokuba knew this was a bad spot, but he'd been unable to convince his older brother. The photo he takes is of Kaiba with his head bent down, and his face twisted into a sneeze.

Oh my goodness, I disappeared from the Internet for a while SO I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO COMMENT ON THESE. But wow, you're just breezing through these like no one's business, and like always, your writing is amazing. I'm still jealous that you can do in 100 words what I *might* be able to do in three or four hundred. I especially love Lazy, Ruin and Relief. Keep 'em coming!

Relief was totally written with certain corrosponding actual-sex things in mind. And I'm surprised you liked Lazy in particular? It wasn't one I found super-interesting. Prompt #51 – Milk

Shou is eleven, old enough, according to Ryo, not to need a babysitter. Their parents disagree, so Ryo is in charge. Shou won't get his own milk because he's afraid of the refrigerator. Ryo is getting it for him. Ryo is catching a cold, so when he tilts his head to get the milk out, he freezes in place. His breath comes in huge bursts, and his nostrils flare. “Huhhh....upppchhhhhui! Hushhoo! Uichhoo!” His head hits the freezer, and he knocks over the milk. Shou runs over with a paper towel, unsure whether it's for the floor or Ryo's nose.

Prompt #53 – Blanket

Otogi wakes to bees buzzing around in his honey-filled nose. He sneezes eight times in a row, and each tiny squeak helps solidify the honey. His sinuses are sealed with it, it's leaking out and he can do nothing. He can't even blow his nose. He reaches for his blanket, shivering, hoping to get a little more sleep. Maybe he'll wake up feeling better. Otogi doesn't find his blanket, because Honda has stolen it. Otogi catches cold nearly every time he sleeps without a blanket. This cold he's woken to is Honda's stupid fault. Furious, he snatches back the blanket.

Prompt #27 – Disagreement

“We can't go to school like this, aibou,” says Yami, peering at their shared face in the mirror. Yugi, controlling the body at present, holds a tissue to his swollen, stuffy nose. He tries to tell Yami that he promised to tutor Jounouchi, but when he tries to speak his breath hitches, and he lets out a small, squished sneeze. “You can tutor Jounouchi some other time,” says Yami, crossing his arms. “Right now, we need to rest. Otherwise we're never going to get rid of this cold.”

“I promised,” croaks Yugi, trudging out the door.

@ PaperThings - Hooray, so happy to see you back! Eheheh, I totally wrote about Ryo because you mentioned liking him. This update doesn't include him, though it does have more Edo. I'm trying to have a broad range of characters, but I keep coming back to certain ones. Anyway, I hope you're having a good time, wherever "away" is.

DarkMagician2000: @_@; Sorry ur sick, Kaiba! U must have that cold everyone's been getting. Jounouchi's had it for three days, and Anzu just got it. I might be getting it too, my nose is kinda stuffy, lol. Hoping it doesn't last until finals.

Prompt #17 – Never

Dinosaur DNA ought to prevent human illness, but this morning Kenzan realizes that it doesn't. He sneezes himself awake, tries to suck a deluge of snot back into his sinuses, and fails. He tries to blow his nose into his pillowcase, and fails. If he were a dinosaur, he wouldn't be able to sniff out his prey. His voice is hoarse and raw, his throat aching. If he were a dinosaur, he wouldn't be able to terrify his enemies with a roar. Kenzan should never get sick, but here he is, snorting desperately and coughing into his very human hands.

Prompt #7 – Misplaced

Ed was supposed to leave for the Shanghai duel tournament ten minutes ago. Instead of boarding his private helicopter, Ed is tearing his room apart in search of his antihistamines. With his allergies raging, he can't leave without them, but it's getting late and they're nowhere to be found. Besides, his eyes are spilling water, slamming shut every minute in an irritated sneeze. He can't find it. After blowing his congested nose, he gives up and hands his prescription over to one of his employees. “Go to the...hachoo! pharmacy,” he croaks. “We can't leave without my...hyeshhoo! Hipshieww! medication.”

@ Murphy D. - Thanks for your comment! Heh, the chatroom one was fun. I may use that style again in future ones, who knows? Anyway, for me it isn't too hard to stick to 100 words...I just keep in mind that it's only going to be 100 words, so I don't come up with concepts that will take longer than that to explain. It takes practice though, and sometimes I do have to delete things.

This batch is about various sibling relationships in GX. There are several in DM as well, but I'll talk about them some other time. Also, they're all about colds. Because I like colds. One of them is female though, so that's stepping outside of my usual box, just a little.

Prompt #89 – Money

Three days after Shou comes down with a cold that keeps him locked in his dorm room, he finds a plastic bag at the door. The bag contains two boxes of aloe-infused tissues, a package of honey-lemon cough drops, nasal spray, and a bottle of cold medicine. There's no note attached to the bag, and though Shou wants very much to use these products, he isn't sure if he should. Who knows who they belong to, and anyway, they must have been expensive. I should slit the throat of this squirming rat for poisoning me. Twelfth night of sitting up with Sid, wondering if he'll die. It's a cold, or the flu, nothing killer unless I kill him. I could kill him. If he were gone I'd have everything. Love. Power. Parents. Power. Twelfth night planning how to break him. Sid sneezes. I, dutiful brother, hold the tissue to his nose.

Fubuki, you are such an asshole...hhechhoo!” Asuka empties her nose into a crumpled tissue, then groans when it instantly refills itself. “You know how I kept telling you to leave me alone while you were sick? This is why. Finals are in two days, and I can't...nnnhnn...stop sneezing long enough to...hhhghhxh...study. Hiihhhk-SHOO! CHH!” She blows her nose again, and says, “I'm going to fail because of you!”

Fubuki grins sheepishly, and rubs at the back of his head. “I'm sorry Asuka-chan,” he says. “Would it help if I made you some tea?”

Rei shows up at Duel Academy slathered in perfume. She'd heard a rumor that Ryo was allergic. When she passes him, her perfume-drenched hat drifts under his nose, and she hears his breath hitch. She looks up, heart thumping. Ryo turns to the girl he's with, and asks, “are you...huhhh...wearing per...huhhhuhh...perfume? I'm allergic to...” He trails off, shuts his teary eyes, and quivers his nostrils. “HUPCHHUH! UIIHHCHOO!” Then he snorts into a tissue and moans, “ugh, now I'm going to be congested all day...huhhchh!” Rei ducks swiftly around the corner, barely able to suppress her glee.

On average, Misawa's colds last 8.5 days. While ill, he sneezes approximately 55 times and has 27 coughing fits per day. He misses 3 hours of sleep per night, and 1 hour of concentration in class per day. 1 ounce of moisturizer goes on his nose when it becomes chapped by day 3. His fever tends to hover around 38.4 C. 0 minutes are spent trying to figure out how to use this data, because Misawa is taking a much-needed nap.

Prompt # 45 – Sore

Jounouchi has no patience for this cold. He should be like Shizuka, sniffling politely, and only blowing her nose every half hour. If he did that, his nose wouldn't be sore and bleeding. He knows he shouldn't blast into a tissue every minute, but he needs that post-blow moment of easy breathing. After that, his nasal passages slam shut and thicken with mucus. Then, his nostrils start to get itchy, and he has no choice but to blow his nose. After his inevitable sneezing fit, he's forced to blow again. How Shizuka waits a whole half hour, Jounouchi doesn't know.

Haha, I really like "Calculating." Very funny/cute, and I love the sneezes, even if I don't know the characters--you portray them well so I don't have to know them.

I'm so sorry I haven't commented! I just stopped being obsessed with Gx for a little while, and then I didn't have time to check the site. But I still LOVE these. Fetish!Rei is amazing, and of course I adore Ryo sneezing. Love the one with Amon and Sid, and the one with Misawa. I'm so glad you did one for him! He's still one of my favorite characters, and I worry he's so underappreciated.

@ PaperThings - Oh wow, losing an obsession can happen that quickly for you? I tend to stay obsessed with things for years, myself. Anyway I do hope you're still interested enough to keep reading, I always look forward to your comments. And yeah, I couldn't see the prompt "calculating" and not have it be about Misawa. He's the math guy! It could also apply to um, Rei, because in this little series she's not a very kind person and has um...calculating plots, but ehhh, I'll write about her enough without it. I do like Misawa rather a lot, he's the nerdiest person in a school full of nerds, what's not to love?

@ Scion - Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you can enjoy these drabbles even without knowing the characters. I find myself able to enjoy drabbles with characters I don't know moreso than longer stories, personally--I think because with drabbles it's more about the particular situation? In these, I do use canon details, but it's not the main main focus here. We all know what the main focus is.

Rei's new idea involves watching Judai play nursemaid, so for the last two weeks she's been targeting Johan, Judai's new best friend. It's awhile before she finds a virus, and she has to steal Chronos' dirty tissues. At first, it seems like Johan won't catch it, but one day, she sees him sitting with Judai at lunch, coughing harshly. He sniffles and tells Judai that he hates having a cold. “Sorry, man,” says Judai, rubbing Johan's back with his knuckles. “That doesn't look fun.” Johan sneezes, so Judai presses a napkin into his hand. Rei just about dies.

“Ihhhhshhhiuuuw...” Ojama Yellow hands Shou a leaf to blow his nose in, but he doesn't take it. Instead, he wipes his nose on his sleeve. That sneeze sparked a headache, so he sits down on a damp rock and rubs his temples. Shou doesn't need a cold right now. He's spending every day traipsing after Judai, walking all day and most of the night. He's exhausted without this, and right now he's about to cry. He crushes his fists into his eyes, but the tears squeak through. He can't deal with being both sick and worried sick about Judai.

Prompt # 66 – Raincoat

Judai's throat feels scratchy, and his nose is beginning to run. He's catching a cold, but he doesn't want to admit to it. This is because Yubel tells him they're catching a cold, as if it's her body and not just his. As if she hasn't raked his soul with her claws. It's his nose, his throat, his body. She's just borrowing them. She tells him to take a raincoat when they go out because the sky is clouding up, and he wouldn't want to get wet and make their cold worse. Theirs. Judai tells Yubel to go fuck herself.

Oh my God, Care... I totally understand Rei dying; I would have too . Awww, Cry makes me so sad for Sho, same as that whole season does really, but I love it. And Raincoat... haha, it makes me happy, Judai telling her off. I can't help it, I have never liked Yubel. Amazing update as always!
