Eye wiping after sneezing

I'm in a posting mood- so here's a topic I've been thinking about recently.

A while ago I saw a girl sneeze once, pull out a tissue to wipe her nose... and then carefully select a clean corner of the tissue to wipe gently underneath both of her eyes. There was something rather feminine and attractive about this act of recovering from the sneeze- dabbing carefully with the tissue, mouth slightly open, looking up at the ceiling (so she wouldn't poke herself in the eye, I guess :blushing: ).

Over the years I have seen a few other people wipe their eyes after a sneeze; but not many. I presume it's because the tickle or the sneeze makes your eyes water- but I've never noticed my own eyes watering much when I sneeze. Maybe it would be different if I had allergies?

I do find it quite cute- does anyone else like this? Do you do it yourself? Answers on a postcard! :zippy:

I have seen people do this, though as you say, it happens rarely. I love it when it does. Watery eyes always make me melt.

This happens to me sometimes, especially if I sneeze more than once. When I induce though, I always end up with tears rolling down my face. :zippy: Definitely odd.

If I do that myself, I've never really noticed it. I do think it's really cute when I see someone else do it, though.

It's probably because of the close relation between the nerves in the eyes and nose. Like how someone gets a runny nose when crying. It probably works the other way around too, as in a person who has to sneeze really badly will get-teary eyes, even without allergies making their eyes itchy or anything, and then the first chance they get to wipe their eyes is after sneezing.

I do this a lot if it's allergies or a cold as my eyes get very watery from the congestion and itching/tickling in my nose, etc. Otherwise, not always...it depends very much on what's making me sneeze, how many times, and whether or not I'm trying to hold the sneezes back for any length of time, as I sometimes do :zippy:.

I do this occasionally if I sneeze hard enough, or when I get hay fever. I think it's utterly adorable when other people do it. Especially men!

I do this a lot. I have two reasons though. My eyes do get a little watery when I sneeze but my main reason for doing it is to fix my make up after a sneeze fit. I tend to sneeze in fits and I wear eye make up everyday. Sneezing tends to make my eye make up run under my eyes so I use a tissue to make sure I don't end up with panda eyes!

Well, I don't do it with a hankie, but I've long assumed that watery eyes are part of the normal sneeze process; in fact a big part of the sneezedar we use is detecting the slightly shiny eyes that are often the first sign of incipient sneeziness. But for those who wear mascara.

I once knew a girl who was so extremely teary that her eyes filled whenever she laughed. She said that this made watching visual comedy very difficult , as by the time the visual punchline was reached, she could no longer see the tv...

I don't do it myself (that I know of), but I agree that it's really cute when someone else does... <_<
