nasalblower2012
Basically my girlfriend recently had a cold and was blowing some huge snotty very unfeminine honking sounds and it got me thinking, why and how does that happen? i personally have never been able to do it so who can do it? and how is it done? Natto
I do it, but I'm not sure how it's done, really. It's just what happens. I'd actually love to know how not to do it, because it calls a lot of unwanted attention to me. It happens when I'm congested. Like, if I have a cold where I have a lot of mucus and that's the main focus, it won't be so loud, but if the main thing is that I'm really stuffed up, I'll be honking like a duck. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! Link to comment
honkmaster
I do it too, but I also don't know how. I just take a deep breath and blow hard. Even when I'm not congested i still honk, I'm not sure why tho. Link to comment
sneezychick93
I don't have a clue why or how, but when I have a cold and I blow my nose I will honk. Link to comment
luvsfemalehonks
i only do when im sick ...how i do it i always hold the tissue with both hands...pinch both sides of my nose slightly and blow REALLY hard usually gets a nice low pitch quick blast out Link to comment
ILoveTheSound
I'm a huge honker, if I blow really hard. For fun, I have been know to blow out a song or two. If I hold the tissue very loosely, no pinching, once I get past the clog it's like a trumpet. However, I am making a concerted effort to stop blowing hard, as I've discovered it makes me sneeze even more. Morningsmith
I tend to find that it happens when I blow my nose "straight out the front," instead of the side-to-side, altrenative nostril thing. Also, It only tends to happen when I blow fairly hard, and with lighter congestio, like a runny rather than a stuffy nose. My allergy blows tend to be honks, whereas my cold blows tend to be snufflier. Hope that helps. Link to comment

Honkytonklagoon
I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable physical explanation, like the amount and intensity of air being forced through a small space. (What do I know?) But I honk, too. Sometimes I catch myself doing it and surprise myself. Link to comment

ILoveTheSound
you ever consider making a nose blowing video ???Sorry, I am so phobic about being filmed. But I think it's pretty interesting that a couple people have requested seeing/hearing my honks! And since I'm still so new here, I'm a little shy. I can assure you that if I am validated and become a full forum member, I'll certainly give back to the community with some wavs! Link to comment
OnlyInMyDreams
I always wondered how people honked too, until I figured out that I can! At least for a little while longer. I have a deviated septum that I'm having fixed in a copule weeks (non-invasive, no packing kind of surgery I'm told). Basically, I have very, very little breathing room on the left nostril, so if I blow out of it while holding the right one shut, I honk, kind of a low sound. I'll have to record it between now and my surgery date. I'm just not good at videos (blind and unable to know if my phone's camera is aimed correctly), so maybe I'll just have to make a sound file..I wonder if I'll be able to honk in a couple weeks or more when I'm recovered. Definitely looking forward to breathing better. Link to comment
luvsfemalehonks
should definitely put that on youtube! Link to comment
OnlyInMyDreams
If I can figure out how! :happy:I have sound files, but not an actual video, and I wouldn't know the first thing about setting up the camera so I'm in its "line of sight". (Blind as I said).Anyway.. happy honking, whoever can do it! Link to comment
