the-open-mind
At my college we are discussing how to stress syllables in poetry. This requires a lot of call and answer between the students and the teacher. Today I played the role of the teacher when I did my presentation. The topic that I chose for my presentation was...cooking! I chose these four phrases for my poetry presentation:"I enjoy cooking""pass the salt please!""no, not the pepper.""pepper makes me sneeze!"My goal, in addition to scoring well on my presentation, was to get one of the more attractive students in the class to say the last line (I know some of us respond positively to say the least when someone we're attracted to talks about sneezing) I had the class pronounce the quotations and clap their hands, stressing certain syllables. When we all got to "pepper makes me sneeze" I observed the class and noticed that only one girl said the rhythm correctly. She was very attractive and looked very content because she knew she was the only one to get it right.I said "hey, I think you're the only one who pronounced it in the correct rhythm! Could you demonstrate it for the rest of the class?"She was very eager and enthusiastic as she demonstrated for the class while clapping her hands: "pepper makes me sneeze!" Hearing and seeing her say that while smiling made me feel really good the class thought it was a little silly but overall they liked it and my professor thought if went well. Good day!
