murphy dee
I'm not sure when I'd ever get around to writing anything like this, but I figured I should ask while I'm thinking about it. Testing the waters for a later swim, you might say.So here goes: Would anyone here be offended by a sneeze story that is religious fiction? And by "religious fiction" I mean stories involving biblical figures, Jesus included? Nothing pornographic or adult in nature, mind you, just a regular sneezefic.I'm not any sort of faith myself, so I'm actually really unsure if writing a sneezefic about Christ or other biblical persons would be considered offensive or not. I don't want to anger anyone or make anyone feel uncomfortable, so if y'all think posting something like this would be in poor taste, please be totally honest and let me know and I'll refrain from sharing any religious fiction here if/when I crank some out (probably more "when" than "if" - Easter's coming up after all). Thanks! Link to comment
Kiwifruit
Someone will always be offended by something like that involving religion While I wouldn't be comfortable enough with it myself to read it, I reckon go for it and don't worry, if people don't like it they don't have to read it. If people refrained from writing if it might offend someone we wouldn't have To Kill a Mockingbird, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Harry Potter, Anne Frank's diary wouldn't have been published...among many many others that my brain cannot come up with at 6.40am xD Write what you want to write, I say! Jorm
I wouldn't be in the least bit offended by a story like that, but then I'm hardly religious and not at all Christian, so Biblical characters are really no different to any character from a novel to me. Link to comment
Pearlised
I think that if you put a 'warning' of sorts in the description, those who would get offended wouldnt read it. Link to comment
count tiszula
I would hope that, as long as there is no unpleasant mockery of characters, no offence would be caused. This has occurred to me too; did Christ sneeze is scarcely odder than Can Elrond sneeze. And if Elijah [or someone] could get sneezed all over by a boy, why should not, say, Jairus's daughter [provided she is over 18 of course] be sneezy too. Then there's St Veronica with her holy hankie.... The miracle of the sneezes....perhaps we shall have a rash of Christian stories for Holy Week. Link to comment
Jorm
I think Pearlized's suggestion of a warning is a good idea. That way anyone who might not be comfortable with the idea of religious figures being used in fetish fiction could easily stay out the thread. And while it's true that if you're going to venture into the world of religion you're almost always going to offend someone I don't think that should stop you if it's something you want to write. The world would be a terribly boring place if people never did anything that might be construed as offensive. Link to comment
Anonymouse
It would certainly be something new/interesting. I'm technically Catholic but I'm probably one of the hardest people to offend. Just warn people beforehand, like the others said. Link to comment
murphy dee
Oh wow! I kind of wasn't expecting this sort of reaction, but I must admit I'm relieved. Thanks for the input, y'all! So it appears the general consensus is that I should put up a warning - makes sense to me, I shall do exactly that then.I know what I'm doing for Easter now. Link to comment
VoOs
I'm not a religious person in the least, but I find the idea of fetishifying biblical figures very, very attractive. I would definitely read it. Link to comment
Nova
I can imagine some people being offended by it, even if I can't understand it myself more than theoretically. I find things written about real, existing people with real, existing lives more offensive, and I really can't be bothered to be offended by that either. But then again, I am not at all religious.Flitting lightly over that – I think it's a nice idea. Go for eet. Link to comment
Sitruuna
At least I wouldn't be offended (though I'm not religious) and it would certainly be more interesting than those many Jeesus/Judas fics that I've seen... Go for it! : D Link to comment
Shay
I also agree that putting a warning in would be a good idea. I personally wouldn't be offended by a religious sneezefic, but at the same time I would probably avoid it just because most of the mainstream religious stuff is a turn off to me. That being said, if you really want to write it, then I think that you should because it seems like there will be some people out there that would enjoy it. Just include the warning as a courtesy, kind of like how people warn about other things that people might be sensitive about. Link to comment
Sneezyhugsandkisses
this would be defintely interesting to read!go for it Link to comment
murphy dee
I'm so excited that not only would people here be okay with me posting it, but that some of y'all actually would want to read it! I love this place. Link to comment
March Hare
I'm immediately thinking a little bit of h/c between Jesus and Mary Magdalen. Of course, to take any possible sting out, you could always make it Jesus Christ Superstar-based than actually Bible-based. Dilute it a little, so to speak. Link to comment
murphy dee
I'm immediately thinking a little bit of h/c between Jesus and Mary Magdalen. That's exactly what I had planned, actually! Link to comment
Secret98
I was to afraid to even think of religious characters sneezing, but if the rest of you have and haven't been struck by lightning then I think can think of it to and not worry that I'm going to get hit by an asteroid I would not be offended at all by it and would love to read it I've wonder for the longest time what St. Michael would sneeze like, you have to admit I also find the religious characters sneezing to be pretty hot Link to comment
Honkytonklagoon
I'm intrigued by the idea. Link to comment
