Met my friend from the forum (Known her for over 4 yrs)

Hello guys,

I met my friend from the forum in early April. I wasnt able to post about this earlier because my laptop crashed (while visiting her lol). Well here is the story. I have known her for 4 years and we have been close friends during that time, She lives in NJ and I live in PA and only are about 2 hrs apart. We never got a chance to meet because she was always dated someone or I was and we were never mutually single. I Drove down to NJ and ended up staying several nights at her place and we had a great time going to the gym/ out to eat/ and just relaxing/ (and she finally got a chance to hear me play the piano lol). All in all it was a great time and I am looking forward to her coming to visit me in PA in a few weeks.

Thanks guys. I was looking and searching for other threads on what happened when other members met for the 1st time. Does anyone have any experiences to share/heard of any experiences/ can direct me to some other threads?

And I can't but agree with Vet and Chanel; meeting forum friends IRL is a truly fantastic thing, and something I've been lucky enough to experience six times over the last four years. Each and every occasion is a little bundle of happy memories in my head. <3

Glad you were finally able to make it work with your friend!

I've met two people from the community thus far and both have been really great experiences. One lives in the same state as I do so we just grabbed public transport into the city where we met up and hung out for the day which included giggling like complete fools over a children's book we found about what makes people sneeze The other I flew out and stayed with for about a week.

I had lunch with my first forum friend this afternoon Very fun and casual, and she didn't mind that my husband tagged along -- good thing she's braver than I am! I'd like to meet some more sometime, but, I am pretty shy about this stuff. It's nice to put a face to the words that pop up on my screen.

I've not met anyone from here because I'm such a newb (maybe someday? ), but I've met a number of people from other forums and it's been a positive experience every time. Internet friendships can just be friendships, too. <3

That's awesome sneezedude! It must have been amazing finally getting to hang out after four years. Sounds like you had a fun time.

I also happen to live in NJ/go to school in PA (hinthint) But I don't think I'm brave enough to meet up with anyone from this forum yet. When I was fifteen I joined an online House roleplay and I still talk regularly to (and occasionally roleplay with) the girls, one of whom actually came up from Arkansas for my sweet sixteen. It was so cool meeting her in person and hanging out and even six years later I still consider her one of my best friends. I can tell her anything, things I'd be too afraid to tell my real-life friends whom I see on a daily basis.

The thing that makes internet friends so special is that you kind of pick them based on your own interests. If you care about something enough (ie, writing) that you join an online group to talk about writing/share your work/give and receive criticism, odds are that the people in that group are just as passionate about writing as you are. This allows you to talk a lot about your common interests while also learning about some new things.

Real life friends are no less awesome. It's just different. You don't actively seek them out based on common interests like you do on the internet.

Definitely! I've actually met quite a few people in person, and they've all been wonderful!! Y'all know who you are!

And I loved that even though we all discussed sneezing, it wasn't the only thing we talked about, or the only thing on our minds. We had lots of other stuff to do and talk about.

I've heard about how much fun it can be to meet people from this forum, but I've never done it. I suppose a big part of it is that I'm not really interested. That probably sounds awful, but I don't mean it to be -- I'm sure there are a ton of lovely people here, but it's just not my cup of tea. I like to keep to myself.

If the opportunity presented itself I might reconsider, but as it is right now I cherish my relative anonymity. Still, I feel this little pinch of jealousy whenever I read about a meet-up. You all seem to have so much fun!

The two people I've met were people I had become very close friends with years before I actually met up with them in person. I wouldn't want to just go meet someone I only vaguely knew from the forum. The ones I met I wanted to meet not because we shared this particular fetish, but because they had become really good friends.
