Icee
fantasneezer requested this a while ago, and i figured i might as well take a crack at it, so i hope this was what you had in mind! btw i don't own or make $ from lostKate woke in the middle of the night to a splattering of rain at her cheek, and was fully conscious just in time to be drenched in water. She began to pack her things immediately, stuffing object after soaked object into her soaked pack. When she was done, about two minutes later, she looked around for sawyer, who was traveling with her. “In here, freckles!” Came from a cluster of trees, and Kate ran in the direction the voice had come from, ducking through the branches. “Took you long enough!” sawyer told her, attempting to squeeze the water out of her jacket. Kate shivered, and sawyer put the still wet coat around her shoulders. “You okay freckles?” Kate smiled shakily at her nickname, and nodded. “Do we just stay in here until the rain stops?” sawyer shrugged, and rested his head on one of the trees. Kate yawned, and curled up next to him. “Freckles, if you want a hug, all you need to do is ask.” Sawyer wrapped his arms around Kate’s shaking body, and they gradually drifted off again. Sawyer opened his eyes to the morning sun shining down through the gaps in the trees. Kate was still cocooned in his arms, and he took some time to treasure the moment. He gently brushed a strand of her hair out of her face, and she stirred. He internally cursed himself, and said “freckles?” she sniffed, and cuddled closer to him. It was then that he noticed that she seemed unusually warm. “Freckles?” no response. “Kate??” no response. He gently ran his finger down her cheek. As he did, she suddenly stiffened and gasped quietly, turning her face away. “Freckles?” “Huh?” her voice was somewhat high pitched compared to normal, and her breathing had hitched. “Are you okay?”“Yeah, I ju- ISHOO!!” sawyer rolled his eyes. “Bless you.”“thadks.” Sawyer creased his eyebrows. She sounded terrible. “You feel okay?” “Yeah, I’b f- ECHIEW!! Fide.” She sniffled. “Kate…?” “ESHOO!!” “Bless you. I think you-““Sawyer, I’b fide.” Kate had sat up, and was now swaying slightly. “Zip it, freckles, you’re sick.” Kate coughed into her elbow. “My point exactly. You need to get back to the beach.” He told her. She sighed, sounding more like a wheeze. “Freckles?” Kate rolled her eyes, and nodded. “Very well. Track a boar all by yourself.” Sawyer stood up and offered her a hand, which she took and pulled herself up on, only to fall back against the trees, her hand at her forehead. “Head rush.” Sawyer put his arm around her waist and helped her along. By the time they got to the beach, Kate was exhausted. Her head was throbbing, her throat was raw, her nose was stuffy, and her whole body ached. Sawyer walked her to her tent, and helped her get in her makeshift bed. “You need anything?” he asked her. Kate brought her knees up to her chest and sighed. “doe. Thadks, though.” She told him, and fell back asleep almost instantly. Sawyer crept out of the tent and closed the flap behind him. Then he went to his own tent and uncovered his stash, taking two aspirins, a small bottle of dayquil, and a travel pack of tissues, then went back to Kate’s tent. He left all three on a piece of bark next to her. She’d wake up soon enough, what with the noise everyone was constantly making. In the mean time, sawyer decided he might as well go for a swim. Kate woke to a metallic pounding just outside her door. It wasn’t helping her headache. She sat up dizzily, and prepared to go outside and ask whoever if they could take their doings elsewhere. As she was reaching for something to keep her balance with, her hand collided with a rough object that was sitting on the ground next to her. Squinting in the darkness, she picked it up and held it to the small bit of sun that came in through a gap in her wall. It was a piece of bark with aspirin, cold medicine, and tissues on it. She knew well enough that the only two who had all three of those were jack and sawyer, but jack would’ve woken her up to take the medicine. Sawyer had a nice side after all. She pulled out her water bottle and swallowed the pills, then took some of the Dayquil, too, and put the tissues in her pocket, then went outside to see what the commotion was. Someone was pounding a piece of the fuselage flat. Then Kate saw the tattoos on his arm, and sighed. If she asked jack to stop, he’d see her (there was no doubt in her mind that she looked as bad as she felt) and insist on taking care of her, which would make for a very awkward sawyer-jack situation, but if she let him keep going, her head would keep pounding. Sighing, she tried to look normal, and approached him. “Jack?” her voice broke, and he didn’t hear. She cleared her throat and tried again. “Jack?” he turned and looked at her, and his face fell, “Kate, are you okay?” She bit her lip, trying to think of a quick comeback. “I’m trying to sleep, could you-ESHIEW!! ICSHOO!!” She managed to grab one of the tissues in time, but now the awkward situation was almost a guarantee. “Bless you. Did you take aspirin yet?” he asked, putting down his tools and coming over to feel her forehead. “Why would I be takidg aspirid?” she tried to stash the used tissue back in her pocket so he wouldn’t notice, but he grabbed her wrist. “Because you’re sick.” He looked concerned. “I’b dot sick.” “Then why do you have a travel pack of tissues sticking out of your back pocket? And why are you running a fever? And why does it look like you’re going to fall over any second?” Kate considered slapping him, and said “I’b sick.” He started walking back to his tent, motioning for her to follow“Did you take aspirin yet?”“Yes. Ad Dayquil.”“What are your symptoms?” he had her sit on the bed. “By head is throbbing, I ache all over, by throat is raw.” She coughed into her elbow. “And you’re stuffed up.” he noted, feeling her glands. She rolled her eyes. “Yes, gedius, Thad too.” “Are you nauseous?” she shook her head no, “What’s the diagdosis, doctor?” he sat back on his heels. “Common cold, though where you picked it up is beyond me. Get plenty of rest, fluids, and for the love of god Kate, take it easy until you feel better.” She sighed, which induced a fit of coughing that she muffled into her elbow. When she was done, jack asked, “can you get back to your tent without passing out?” Kate jokingly gauged the distance, about fifteen feet, sneezed, and nodded. Sawyer had dried off, and when he had gone to check on Kate, she wasn’t in her tent. He’d panicked, until he saw her sitting on jack’s bed while he ‘examined her’. He’d always known that she would fall for him instead of her, but it didn’t stop him from trying. Fifteen minutes after he saw he go back, he went to ask her about it. The luck he had, she was awake. “What’d the doc say?” she sniffled, and answered, “I have a fatal virus, and I’b goidg to be dead withed the hour.” Sawyer’s mouth fell open. “Is he sure? I mean he doesn’t have all the right stuff to tell-“ Kate’s eyes shut, and smile lit her pale face as she began to laugh. “You fell for Thad?” she half-giggled half-coughed, and sawyer made a face. “Ha-ha, very funny. Seriously, what’d he say?” Kate stopped laughing and sniffled. “I have a cold sawyer, a cobbod cold. I’m dot goidg to die. You cad stop worryidg.” She rubbed the side of her nose, and pulled a tissue from the pack. “Thadk you, by the way.” He pretended to be puzzled, saying “thank you for what?”“For the medicine and the tissues.”“I didn’t bring you those.” He wondered vaguely how she’d known. “Yes you did. Jack didd’t Dow I was sick udtil he saw be, so could he have dode id?” Sawyer smirked at her, “alright, it was me. You gunna give me the most generous island citizen award?” Kate rolled her eyes, and brushed a strand of hair out of her face. The strand tickled her nose, and she pulled a tissue from the pack, “ISHIEW!! HESHOO!! HICHIEW!!” “Bless you freckles.” Link to comment
