The Hand Wave

This is kind of inspired from the finger under the nose thread. We are all familar with the finger under the nose being a way to supposedly stop a sneeze, and I think many of us have seen the "hand wave" to help a sneeze along.

I, for one, thought that this was a myth, however, I find myself waving my hand a few inches in front of my face like an idiot every single time I have a stuck sneeze. Whether it is mental or real, the hand wave always seems to help me sneeze.

Anyone else with me on this?

I personally don't do the hand wave, but I have noticed others that do it! I always thought of it as if they were going "Oh-em-geeeeeee, I gotta sneeze!"

I personally feel it does help. Although I don't do it in public (one of the setbacks of being a male), I sometimes do it when I'm at home.

Lalena - yes, I do that too....it does help the sneeze along.. for whatever reason...real or imagined.

Yes I do it and it does help the sneeze along, think it's the air you're forcing into your nose which helps the sneezes come out!

I definitely do it when I'm alone. I feel like it doesn't physically coax the sneeze out, but maybe psychologically. It's similar to focusing on a dark spot and envisioning the spot getting bigger and engulfing you when you don't want to sneeze.

So yes, I do it and it helps.

I do it, normally in a fairly half-hearted way xP But I swear, it does help ;P

Omg, I just tried it, and it totally worked! I'm not sure if it's just placebo effect, but it definitely helped.

I do it ALLL the time. it actual doez work! when my sneeze is stuck, if do the hand wave nd it always comes out- without fail

I wonder if it's a learned behavior. We do it because others do it -- sort of like something to do while waiting to see if the sneeze is going to come out.
