HankieDr
Hi Dr and welcomeYes, there is a thread on this! Now let's see if I'm any good at making these links... Kleeny
Ah yes, that was me. I still use that handkerchief regularly, pretty soft and a striking pattern.Welcome to the forum, by the way, always great to have another hankie fan around. That was a special day when I picked that hankie up, as saw another one elsewhere, in a shop, but I didn't have the bottle to pick that one up. I felt quite brave/weird picking the one up that I did. Then again, I could always say it was mine anyway and I had lost it as I had passed earlier. Link to comment
HankieDr
Have done that before in a shop, there was one the assistant picked up ( a ladies) and placed it on the side, i asked for it and said it was my wife's 'she had dropped it' she gave it to me with a little smile! Link to comment
Kleeny
Last weekend I spotted what I was convinced was a ladies' white hanky on the pavement opposite a busy shop, so didn't pick it up but made a note for later and next time I came past, when it was quieter, it was still there so I swiftly pocketed it. It was indeed a ladies' hanky and it came up quite nice and clean when washed. I have used it during the week. It has rolled edges and a scalloped corner with a self-coloured embroidered ferny-type plant on it. It is nice and soft and thick. Part of me wants to let the owner know it's in good hands! Excellent, well done Rhinoceros. Any photo available? Link to comment
snuffle-bunny
Well done, it sounds like a really pretty hankie! Link to comment
Burt1234
I wouldn't hesitate, it would have to be a ladies handkerchief though.Well done to the Rhino Link to comment

snuffle-bunny
I picked a hankie up the other day! I walked past it in the street, where it was lying in a puddle and when I walked back it was still there so I pocketed it quickly. It's a ladies' one, white cotton with pink and blue printed flowers in each corner. It's currently soaking in antibacterial solution (it was covered in mud) before going in the washing machine. I hope it's going to be nice to use, it's so pretty. Link to comment

countless
oooh discarted hankies... I have come across 9 during the last week !8 of them were dirty and rather standard white with coloured edging, but 1 was impressive: still folded and with green-red-blue scottish pattern...I felt sooo tempted to pick it up but that was not possible as I was with my family.C Link to comment
Hankysneeze
I found another one!Walking down a track I came across what looked like a standard large white men's handkerchief lying in front of me. There was someone nearby so I kicked it to one side (in the process verifying that it was indeed a handkerchief) and made a mental note of the spot. In what seems by now to be standard procedure, I picked it up when I came back the same way. I've had to give it a scrub and I must say I'm slightly disappointed because it's unexciting and similar to several I already own, but hey - that's the risk you take in the hanky-finding game!Any way I'll use it soon and report further.By the way, talking about reporting further, I wonder how Snufflebunny got on with this one that sounded promising...I picked a hankie up the other day! I'd like to find a coloured one for a change though! I think the only time you will find a colourful hanky discraded in the uk rhino is if one of us from the forum drop it unfortunatley Link to comment
Salamander
Ah, I nearly picked one up the other day. I was in a rock/metal club of all places, and there was a ladies white handkerchief with a lace border, folded, laying on top of a speaker. I came across it while hiding my handbag down the edge of the speaker (as one does) and made a mental note to take it with me if none claimed it, but I came back in a few hours and it had gone. Seemed an unlikely place to find such a pretty one, must have belonged to one of the girls in victorian/ gothic lolita type dress. Link to comment
Kleeny
The circumstances have to be so right do they, to pick one up. I see what I think are hankies, but on closer inspection, aren't.I wouldn't pick up a plain hankie, but I'd be interested in a bordered/patterned one, or a ladies one. I would be amazed to see a ladies hankie in the street. Makes your heart jump though, doesn't it? Link to comment
countless
I had something happening yesterday ! When I was walking down the street I spotted a big white men's with brown edging a few meters in front of me.At the same moment an older man passed me by, bended over the hankie and picked it up...He might have been the owner but did not look that way... WAS IT ONE OF YOU ?? C Link to comment

Kleeny
I think it depends on the handkerchief. If it looks a nice one, and of good quality, a few good hot washes and it will be fine to use. The one I found, mentioned earlier in the thread, has become one of my favourite hankies. Link to comment
countless
This time a 'discarted' hankie sneaked into my house ! My son returned from a summer camp and in his bag there was a used hankie that does not belong to him... I hope he hasn't become a fetishist too Can I keep it ?C Link to comment
