Lexi
So its a bit long and it hasnt got much sneezing but its kinda just setting the stage for whats to come. This is my first fic ever so i'd love feedback and please excuse me if the characters are a bit off. Oh and warning there may be cursing.Ned has a rather bad cold when the king comes to visit and he tries to hide it.Characters in Part 1: Eddard Stark - Eddard Stark, sometimes called "Ned", is Lord of Winterfell, Lord Paramount of the North, and Warden of the North. He and Catelyn Tully have five children. Ned is known for his sense of honor and justice. Though his family finds him kind, some consider his reserved personality a sign of coldness and disdain. In this fic he has a cold and is loathe to admit it Anne- I made her up, she's a servant in the kitchenWord had come that the king would arrive in Winterfell soon, for a visit of unknown length and purpose. Ned rose slowly, trying not to wake his wife. ‘Why is it so damn cold’ Ned wondered while pulling on damn near every piece of clothing he owned in an attempt to stave of the cold of the morning while not drawing attention. His efforts resulted in a rather puffed up version and conspicuous version of the warden of the north. He peered into the looking glass noting that he looked a bit drawn and pale. On the way to the Small Hall Ned noticed and dutifully ignored that his head was beginning to ache. One of the serving girls, Anne, thought on his appearance (Anne‘s POV): His lordship was wearing and unusual amount of clothes, by looks of it for warmth ‘That’s odd, Starks love the cold’ Anne mused. ‘M’lord looks paler than norm’ Anne thought with concern. Lord Stark plopped down into his chair quickly, without greeting anyone, breathing heavily from the short walk. ‘How queer ‘is lordship is a strong man, not one to tire so easily’ Anne was beginning to worry about her lord ‘He always greets h’s servants, howeva solemn the greeting’ “Mornin’ m’lord” said Anne, his lordship didn’t not answer, he had a faraway, unfocused look “HEXTSHHOO!” Ned sneezed forcefully, and much to his embarrassment, freely, luckily no one was caught by the spray. “Excuse me”“Can I get ‘is lordship anything?” asked Anne trying to hold the surprise from her voice she had never heard him sneeze.“Water would be fine” said Ned who pretended not to notice the slight hoarseness of his deeper than normal voice. Anne was really beginning to worry ‘M’lord seems ill’ “Is that all m’lord, nothing to eat?” Lord Stark seemed to think on this for a bit, eventually saying “A small portion of whatever you have already prepared, thank you” his voice was hoarser than before, his every word said carefully as though it was a great effort to speak normally. ‘Mayhaps I ought to ask ‘im ‘how ‘he feels’ ‘Is it m’ place?’ Anne wondered while fetching him his water and food. His lordship broke his fast in silence, save for a couple strong sneezes which he stifled in the crook of his arm. These sneezes along with the fact that Lord Stark, a man who ate a lord’s portion of food, was barely touching his food, spurred her to action. “M’lord?” she asked cautiously “Yes?” he answered hoarsely “Are you well?” “Quite so.. heh..hehxtshoo!” he sniffed liquidly and got up “Good day”“Good day milord” she returned, handing him a handkerchief of the Stark colours with a sympathetic smile. He took it and left quickly. TBC? Link to comment
Lexi
Well... no one responded since 1 posted part one but the story unfortunately has a life of its own. Oh if you spot any errors please tell me. Heres part two pleas read and um review thanks Part Two:Ned was not quick to admit that he was ill, not to himself nor to anyone else. He briskly walked toward the gods wood. He had a dreadfully persistent tickle in his nose. ‘Not here’ Ned commanded his nose. “Heh..heh” ‘Others take my nose! Not here!’ he swore in his mind “Heh..ehtchoo! Ishxt’CHOO!” ‘Well shit’ he thought as he looked around the yard was full of busy servants, men-at-arms and other people, he attracted the attention of many of them. He nodded curtly to them and carried on faster than before. He managed to reach the godswood With out further incident. The tickle in his nose intensified “Heh…heh…hechoo!” he sneezed freely, suddenly remembering the handhercheif given to him, he thanked the gods for Anne and brought it to his nose “Hehtishhh! Ishoo! Achoo! Extshoo! Hetchoo!” the sneezes gave a moment to catch a shaky breathe before returning “E’CHOO! ISHEXTSSH! He’TCHOO! HEXTCHOO ISHOO! HEXTSHH!” these were more powerful and every sneeze was wetter than the last. Ned finally admitted to himself that he might be coming down with a slight cold. Ned quietly finished his prayer in a congested and hoarse voice, wondering how he’d hide this from Robert. He blew his nose loudly and sighed which caused him to cough harshly ‘No more sighing’ he mentally noted. Jory Cassel was about to announce his presence when he saw and heard his lord’s wet sneezes. ‘My lord is ill!’ He was shocked, he had seen his lord injured but never ill. “My lord are you well?” he asked cautiously, he liked Lord Stark, he knew him well, he wouldn’t be quick to admit his ailment.“Jory, I hadd’t heard you approach” Ned dodged the question.“My lord are you well?’ Jory repeated taking note of Ned’s hoarse congested voice.“I ab quide well Jor...HEXCHOO!” Ned’s response was cut off by a unexpected sneeze. “My lord I can hear you, you sound most unwell, and when did you start wear all of you coats at once?” Jory retorted sitting by his lord and friend of many years.Ned turned his head and sneezed into his whit and gray cloth “Hishhtt! Hihshihh! Heh’tchoo!” he turned to respond to Jory “'tis odly aller...I ha…have to sddee…heh…H’tchoo” Ned hardly managed to turn his head from his long time friend. “Heh’tchoo! Ashooo! Hehtxishh! Hextchoo! Achoo! Ashtish! Etcshoo!” Bless” Jory said with concern and a hint of amusement “You haven’t any allergies” he reminded his lord and friend. Ned blew his nose and began a coughing fit, each cough racked his muscular frame. Jory, in the process of rubbing Ned’s back brushed against his neck, “My Lord! You’ve a fever!” Ned only coughed in response.“I bight be a bit unwell” “Heh’tchoo!”Suddenly Jory remembered his purpose “My lord! The king approaches, he is expected to arrive within the hour. You and yours ought to go and await him.”. Ned sniffed miserably. “Ned, will be alright?” Jory asked, shedding formalities in his concern “I haved't ady choice, by presegce is expected” Ned said congested “Surely the king will understand, you and he are friends from childhood, are you not?”“Yed but I havedt seed hib ib dear 15 years he bay have chagged, kiggs fagcy themselves” Ned croaked, his voice was getting worse.“My you intent to hide you’re illness?”“Yed” his voice was just naught more than a hoarse whisper“I will take you inside to my chambers to warm up”Ned opened his mouth to responded but Jory cut him of saying “Do not speak your voice will take leave of you”“I will tell Maester Aemon that Beth is ill and have him send some medicine” Ned looked grateful, before his face went blank and ‘Ishhoo!’ he sneezed.I hope you liked it Link to comment
