Do you remember the worst cold you ever had in your life?

it was about 3 years ago for me. I don't get sick very often. I have a fairly strong immune system. Even though i totally don't eat healthy or get much exercise  like seriously i was once hanging with like 2 friends and they both had colds. i hung with them for the whole day. And i never got their cold lol.

ANYWAY, 3 years ago, i remember hanging at the mall with 2 of my friends. My best friend M, and another friend T. And i think M was just getting over her cold and i guess she still had it in her system but she wasn't aware of it. Anyway, she asked me to try this drink she got from starbucks that she had drank out of like a minute before i did. So fast foward to about 2-3 days later, my throat was killing me, my eyes felt like they were going to pop out of my head (sinus pressure basically), my right eye was red, that CONSTANT tickly feeling in my nose, and i was basically coughing up a lung. And of course eventually I started sneezing. but sadly for me i only sneeze in singles. It's EXTREMELY rare for me to sneeze more than once at a time even when i am sick. Althought during this cold i remember suddenly waking up in the middle of the night and like half a second later i sneeze 3 times (all stifled btw :)) that was extrememly weird but it felt good of course. So yeah then like 3 days into this cold i was like i could not breath well or think well and i felt dizzy so my mom took me to urgent care, and it turned out that i had like a sinus infection...I had to used nose spray which i never had in my life so i was kind of terrified to use it but i did lol and then i was perscribed these pills that were huge. like fricken horse pills >_> M felt so bad that she gave me her cold and that it turned out worse than she had it. I was like no no it's fine things happen for a reason lol and also i had a really discusting moment during this cold. like i remember being at the computer and i had a coughing fit and next thing you know i start gagging during it and i fricken puke like mucus....UGH that was SO gross >_>

Anyway share your stories please. I'd LOVE to read them

Are we talking flu as well, or just colds? I think the worst cold I ever had was when I was in sixth or seventh grade. Didn't matter how many times I sneezed, I felt as if I had to sneeze again. I had a horrible cough and a low but steady fever, and I was so stuffy and hoarse I couldn't speak (wouldn't even try because it was so embarrassing). I was dreadful to live with, because I always lash out at people who come near me when I have a cold, partly because I feel threatened when I'm not feeling well, and partly because I didn't want to infect my parents - UGH! ;) I never sneezed when anyone was around, but I constantly felt like I was about to. It lingered for about one week, the sneeziness for several days which is a lot for me, and the cough for roughly two weeks after the rest of the symptoms were gone. One week after the other cold symptoms were gone, I was in school and was going to answer a question, and I lost my voice the moment I opened my mouth. That was terribly embarrassing.

The worst flu I ever had was when I was about fifteen, it lasted for about two weeks. I was so sick that for two days I was speaking in tongues. My fever was so high I was impossible to connect with, and my mother was about to take me to the hospital. I kept trying to ask for something to drink, but the only thing that came out was "greenhouse tongue, mom, greenhouse tongue". Apparently, in my sick mind that was the same thing as being thirsty. (Mom understood what I meant though, I got peach juice  Although I can't recall drinking it) I hallucinated about big rocks rolling over me, about shining people standing beside my bed, talking in a language I didn't know, and about walking through smoking, nuclear wastelands. I had funny dreams about being a bird and trying to fly but being caught up by magma and burnt to death.

That flu started out with a sore throat, a cough and sore body, but no nasal symptoms.

I tell you, Swine flu was NOTHING compared to that flu.

Hmmm... not really. I remember one particular cold that left me drained and tired and coughing for about three months afterwards, but I haven't had a cold yet that could hold a candle to pertussis so probably that's why I don't remember. ;)

There is a .wav on Bondi's Wav Page simply titled "Voos". That is the sound of the worst headcold I can remember having. It lasted for about three weeks, and was messy as hell. I have a distinct memory of the floor beneath my bed being completely littered with tissue balls. I also remember it being the first cold that I actually enjoyed having, even if I was pretty fed up with it after the first week. ;)

Being a teacher I usually end of getting at least one pretty nasty cold every year with all the germs floating around the school. Perhaps it is the recency effect, but the worst one I can remember was this past spring.

It started out with a little sinus pressure and a sore throat. Soon my ears became infected so badly I could not hear at all out of my right ear. I knew I was congested, but I did not even realize I was speaking in a stuffy voice because I couldn't hear myself talking. I thought I was putting on a brave little face, hoping no one would find out how I was feeling, when my roommate said to me, "Are you alright? You sound horrible!" I then found that my symptoms were noticable.

In the following days my nose became a faucet. While it was not a particularly sneezy cold, my voice was gone, my throat was raw, my ears were pounding and and the pressure in my head was unbareable. I was coughing non-stop and it was difficult to even breath. I missed three days of work (which I never do when I am really sick ... I save my sick days for play, but shhhh) before finally deciding to go to the doctor. It turns out I had a double ear infection and a sinus infection. I missed the rest of the week while the antibiotics kicked in and I finally started feeling better. During that week I went through 2 boxes of tissues completely on my own and slept for probably close to 15 hours or more a day. God, I was so sick.

The sickest I have ever been though was my freshman year of college when I had mono. I had to be taken to the hospital because my temp was 105.2 degrees F. And mono stays with you forever! I was layed up for nearly 2 months. Not a good time.

The worst cold I ever had was when I was 20 and i'd not long been with my boyfriend (now ex husband). I remember being the most stuffed up I've ever been in my life. I couldn't speak clearly at all because of my nose being so congested. I was laying on my boyfriends bed with him and he was cuddling me and I was just blowing my nose constantly and everytime I blew my nose it would make me sneeze , usually 5-6 messy sneezes each time all caught into tissues. I was hot, then cold, shivery and felt absolutely awful.

I ended up telling him I needed to go home as I felt so ill. He drove me home and I remember sneezing most of the way home, my eyes were watering, my nose very red and I felt so embarrassed!!

I crawled into bed when I got home and stayed there for 5 days until I started to feel better. It was definitely the worst cold i've ever had. Just from how stuffy I felt and how uncomfortable my nose and sinuses were

The worst cold I ever had was when I was 16 and I walked home from somewhere in the freezing rain after already not feeling so hot all day. I guess I probably would have just had a mild case of the sniffles if that hadn't happened.

The next day I literally woke up with a sneeze, followed by two more. I couldn't breathe out of my nose at all for more than a week. My throat felt really scratchy and also parched, like I hadn't drunk anything in days. By that night I was achy all over and had a low fever, the kind that isn't dangerous but makes you feel like total crap.

The entire week I had that cold I barely got out of bed except when I managed to drag myself to the bathroom. I wasn't hungry at all, so my mom basically had to force-feed me. I must have gone through about twenty boxes of tissues.

The worst flu I ever had was when I was 16. I was so dizzy all the time and I couldn't keep anything down, so my mom dragged me to the doctors office. Just as we were leaving doctor's office, I passed out. Well, technically we were right outside of the doctor's office. It was awful. I don't think I've ever actually fallen when I've fainted though, because I always lean against a wall when I feel dizzy. This time, I woke up and I was being carried by a FedEx man who was passing by. He took me back inside to the doctor's office where I went back to the examination room and laid on a table for like half an hour. It was mortifying!!! After half an hour, they tried to have me get up again, only for me to go right back down. Then they called an ambulance and I had to go to the hospital and get an IV because I was severely dehydrated.

As for the worst cold, I'd probably have to go with the one I had in freshman year of college, simply because it lasted for an entire month!!! I've had worse colds that have given me fevers, but all of my really intense colds go away. That cold would just not go away!!!

The worst sickness in general I ever had was swine flu two years ago. I started feeling really sick again during class on a Tuesday (I only remember because I got sent home on that Thursday). I skipped my last class and went back to my dorm, where my roommate observed that I looked awful. She was so sweet about it and would fret over me in a way that was more endearing than it was obnoxious. The sinus pressure alone was what did it for me. I was in actual pain, not just discomfort. I couldn't lay my head down, and then my chest hurt from coughing so sitting up seemed to make it ache more. My car was broken at the time, so I couldn't get medicine and it got really bad in the middle of the following day. I was pretty afraid and my roommate was in class. I knew I had a fever and I couldn't stop shivering. I remember going out to the water fountain in the lobby of my floor and a guy that lived on the other wing of the floor whom I dubbed "Hot Ryan" just so happened to be getting off the elevator. He and I were kind of friends (a little more than acquaintances but definitely not comfortable), and when he said hi to me, I completely lost it. I remember telling him I felt really sick and then begging him shamelessly to drive me to the Kroger and then starting to cry of all things. He was soooo stoned and I had no idea at the time, but he was super sweet (albeit kind of slow) about helping me out. It was sort of embarrassing when we got to Kroger, because he kept asking me my symptoms and was recommending stuff, but I liked that he cared. My roommate was home by the time I got back and she made me feel better and also made me an appointment at the health clinic, where they made me wear a mask and then sent me home. It was terrible.

My worst cold was my freshman year of high school. It was only sneezy for a couple of days, but it settled into my chest and would NOT leave. I coughed for three months straight. After the second month, my mom took me to the doctor, where they saw a spot on my lung when they X-rayed it. The doctor was really insensitive and told me I probably either had TB or cancer, but when I got a CT scan, the spot had mysteriously disappeared, leaving me to believe that he probably screwed up the X-ray. He has since been fired, but I was scared for two weeks straight until I got my test result that I was going to die.

Wow, such extreme illnesses here!!

My worst cold was I think...

A few years ago I woke up feeling as if I'd half swallowed a hair and my throat felt kinda weird. I assumed I actually HAD swallowed a hair and waited for the weirdness to go away. But it didn't. By that night (when I went to a Stevie Nicks concert, which was excellent), my throat was killing me.

Later that night, in bed, I was crying from the pain (and the sadness that the concert was over, lol), and the next morning I woke up, throat a little better but feeling like I'd been run over by a truck.

By that night, I was stuffed up, itchy nosed and trying not to sneeze. I just kinda sniffled constantly. VERY congested and a little feverish.

The next morning at about 6am, I woke up with my nose feeling like it was on fire with pending sneezes. I LOVE sneezing but my partner was home and I NEVER sneeze in front of her, so it was a bit awkward.

I tried to ignore the feeling, but it got stronger so I eventually got up and went to the bathroom, where I then proceeded to sneeze (half stifled / half muffled) into a bath towel. I don't even know how many times I sneezed. Usually with a cold I sneeze 1-2 times very frequently, but this time it was a proper sneezing FIT and I ended up sitting on the bathroom floor, just sneezing again and again, with no breaks in between. I don't know how long I was in there but it must've been a while cause my partner later got up and asked if I was ok through the door.

Later we went out to get me some cold medicine, and I was trying SO hard not to sneeze. The sneezy itchy feeling was constant and unrelenting. Every single brief chance I had to sneeze that my partner was not with me, I took it and sneezed, getting more stuffed up by the minute.

I went to the pharmacy and was in line, and when I got to the front of counter to ask for medicine, VERY embarrassingly my nose just suddenly started running like a tap. The woman noticed and looked a little...not disgusted, but...sort of slightly disgusted. lol. I kept having to wipe my nose with my hand and it just kept running. Then I sneezed and my hand...was not in good shape after that. lol.

As we walked home a bit later, my nose started running again and after that, every time I looked down, it ran. Literally gushed out. Ugh.

I don't remember much after that...

Oh gosh, this on cold I had, it was awful...

It was last year. It started when I got up for school Monday morning. I was really tired, like about to fall over and die tired. Which wasn't unusual, as I'm not a morning person anyways. But that day at school, I found my throat hurting, and I was a bit congested. I thought I just had to blow my nose and drink some water. But noooo.

When I got home, my mom commented about how irritable and cranky I was, and I told her to leave me alone. But she took my temperature and I had a fever of about 101.3. Cue the fussing and worrying. I, avoiding her because I needed to sneeze, curled up in my room and turned on some mindless TV. I had a constant tickle in my nose now, and it was a struggle to pronounce my M's and N's.

I didn't go to school the next day. I only remember sneezing five times during this cold, and they were all singles. Ew. But then I was coughing like no tomorrow, really painful coughs that had me begging for oxygen. It was awful.

Day three: My wonderful mother takes me to the doctor. Geez. And they said to just let it run its course.

I could've told her that!!!!!! It's a cold! There's no cure! And it would've saved her a heck of a lot of money! *rolls eyes* Moms...

Anyways, I was in school by Thursday, but I felt like I had fallen from a 21-story building, landed in the middle of railroad tracks, gotten slammed into by a train, which dragged me into a prairie where I was trampled by horses. :D

My sinuses were acting up during language arts, because we were sitting on the floor to read, and the pressure in my nose was relieved and it started pouring. We weren't allowed to stand up, so I kept wiping my nose on my arm and making these gross slurping sounds to contain the snot. I'm sure my friends were pleased. But get this, when we could stand up, I pratically sprinted to the tissue box, and when I got there, I was fine! Horrible.

Friday, there was this presentation thing, and I couldn't go thirty seconds without coughing up a lung. Twas dreadful. My friends kept teasing me about it too, but they were funny. Like...

Me: *cough*

Friend: *stare*

Me: ...*cough*

Friend:

Me: *cough*

Friend: Jeez, woman!

And I was coughing for a month after that, and then it finally let go of me. It was endless!

ohyeah, I remember, I got my whole family sick (whoopsie doopsie), that's what they get for being nice and taking care of me :D

I moved my bed down infront of the TV (the sofa wasn't comfy enough for me due to the fact that it lasted 3 weeks) when it was at the worst point I had trouble moving as little as my finger haha, that's when you know your sick
