EliGirl
I don't know what happened today, but everyone in my house was sneezing A LOT.To start with, I woke up (at 11:00 am, hehe) with three sneezes, the first uncovered and the next two into tissues. "heh-KSHHT! ihh-ksht! k'SHT!" Then, in the shower, I sneezed twice more.Afterwards I went down to breakfast (or brunch, by now) and found my older brother, who I will now call J, and M (his best friend), who had stayed at our house for the night, in the kitchen, apparently having just woken up."Good morning," I say while opening the fridge to get the milk. The cold air causes me to sneeze three more times."You too, huh?" says M."Me too what?" I ask."You're also sneezy," says my brother J. "For sobe reasod we've both beed sdeezing dodstop sidce we woke ub.""What's the pollen count?" I ask."Sobething high," M says."Well, that explains me and you," I say (I have allergies to flowers and he has horrible hayfever), "but what about J?" I ask as I he sneezes a loud "eh-SSHHH!" into the crook of his arm."I duddo, baybe id's jusd dusdy or sobething," he says, already stuffed up."Yeah, with bob [mom] oud of the--heh-ASSSHHH!--oud of the coudtry (on a business trip) nod buch--heh--dusding god--heh-ASSHH!--dode aroud here," says a sneezy, very congested voice from behind us. We turn to see my ten-year-old brother N in his pajamas with his hair sticking up the way it does when he's just woken up. He has extremely sneezy allergies to practically everything in the known universe, so he's usually sneezy, but today it's worse than usual, probably because of the pollen count and the dustiness. As I watch, he has a fit of another six sneezes. "he-ASSHHH! heh...he-ASSHH! heh-ASSSHH! heh...eh...hehhh...heh-ASSHHH! ASSHHH! heh-ASSSHHHH!""Bless you, bad (man)," says M. with all the time he spends around here he's gotten to know all of us pretty well and he's always really nice to N. Sometimes M and J take him with them to do stuff, so he adores them.We scarf down our breakfast like wild animals (this is how my family normally eats), sneezing the whole time.As we're finishing, my fourteen-year-old sister K comes down the stairs. She looks tired and, more interestingly, sniffly. The funny thing about my sister is, she never sneezes. She's barely ever even stuffy. I'm serious. Until now, I have never heard her sneeze in my life."G'mordig," she says sleepily."Whad's for bregfasd?"We stare at her."Whad?"You sound like you're--h'KSSHT!--completely stuffed up!" I say. "You're never--ih-KSHHT!--never stuffed up!""Well, I ab. I hab a code. Whad's for bregfasd?""Whatever these clowns left for you," I say with a look at my brothers."Hey! You ate at least as much as--" J's complaint is cut off by a high-pitched intake of breath from K. We stare at her again."iihhh...hihh...ihh...hiTCHEW!" she sneezes into her hands. We're all still staring at her."Whad?" she asks, getting annoyed."I'be neber heard you sdeeze before!" says N. "Hab you guys?"We shake our heads."That does it," says J. "I'm calling a Sneeze Day.""For--hi-CHUH!--for who?" M asks, sneezing into a napkin."For all of us. If K's sneezing, too, today's sneezing is going to be insane," says J.I should explain. Because N is so sneezy, my mom occasionally calls a "Sneeze Day" when he's sneezing too much to be functional in school. Sometimes she'll call one for J or me, but it's usually N. M thinks it's hilarious, but sometimes wished his mom would do the same when he was in high school."All right. What should we--heh'KSHHT!--what should we do for our Sneeze Day?" I ask."Led's hag oud id the reg roob all day and wadch all the Harry Podder bovies from ode do seved in a row!" says K. So we did, even M. We also had some sneezy contests: who could not sneeze for the longest, who sneezed the most times in a row, who sneezed the loudest, on and on until my dad got home from work and found us all sneezing on the couch in the rec room. He laughed and said he'd been sneezing all day, too (he has hayfever), and came down to join us in his pajamas cause he's just that cool a dad.So, best day ever! I love my sneezy family (and M, who's definitely a part of it). Plus, I heard my sister sneeze for the first time! Link to comment
