This afternoon, I found myself sitting in a quiet corner of a small cafe by the sea. It's a nice little place with huge windows looking out over the rocky shore, and I was sitting in the corner with an open view of the ocean to my left, and along the shore straight ahead of me. There was a boy behind the counter, serving coffee (actually not serving coffee because I was the only customer) and a few cows outside the window, but otherwise I was alone.

There was only a thin layer of cloud, so thin that the sun was peeping through. And of course, the lovely big windows were letting in a lot of light ... so I decided to take my sunglasses off, and let nature take its course. Even as I put them down on the table, I could feel a ticklish feeling in the back of my nose. I leaned back a little more, letting more of the brightness trickle in .... He'SSSSHh! Wow, it sounded so loud as it echoed around the room. The tickly feeling was still there however so I sat back once more, opening my eyes just a little wider, enjoying the sensation grow ..... SSHHHHHOOOoo! Even louder in the enclosed space.

A radio came on through the back. I listened to it for a few moments but I could feel the potential for a further sneeze still lingering in the sunlight. Blinking and breathing deeply, I held my head back once more, allowing the light to play with my optic nerves, feeling the sneeze coming on, slowly but surely .... iiSSSSHHH! That one sounded very wet but happily nothing escaped. I could tell that all the sneezes were over but I replaced my ancient Ray-Bans and sat sniffling for several minutes, just quietly enjoying the sensation of relief that a good sneeze always brings.

You reminded me of something I was thinking about today, and that is sneezing so freely in public. I wish I knew how it felt to be so liberated and not so damn embarrassed!
