gottasneeze1
My sneezes always come from my mouth. When I sneeze totally uninhibited, without trying to control it in any way, the air naturally comes rushing out of my mouth, with very little if any coming from my nose. I've always done it this way too, even as a little kid. When I was about five, I remember wanting to see what came from my nose when I sneezed (I'd just been told that you sneezed to blow stuff out of it). So, the next time I felt one coming, I put my fingers under my nose, sneezed, and was surprised when I didn't feel anything. My body naturally wants the air to go through my mouth, it's not something I'm trying to do on purpose. But, I've read a few places that if you close your mouth when you sneeze, it comes out through your nose. When I try to sneeze like that, it either turns into a stifle, or forces its way out of my mouth anyway- my body physically won't let it go through my nose. So, is there anyone here that can do that; let out a real, uninhibited sneeze through their nose(not a stifle), and if there is, how do you do it and what does it feel like? Link to comment
floatmyboatt
i can do it by just closing my mouth. but it's messy and i don't like the way it sounds. Link to comment
sneezes
im not really sure to be honest lol Link to comment
gottasneeze1
So all you do is close your mouth and the sneeze comes right out your nose? Does any air come from your mouth when you sneeze that way? Is it a full sneeze or is it kind of stifled(I'd think fully sneezing through your nose would hurt!)? Link to comment
GrandHyatt28
I've never really pondered this. Although I assume that I wouldn't like sneezing fully out of my nose. Link to comment
Niceguy
I've done this, but I swore my eyes were going to shoot out my ears. Not a good feeling. Link to comment
gottasneeze1
I've done this, but I swore my eyes were going to shoot out my ears. Not a good feeling. I bet! Just curious, how did you do it? I ask because I've tried to do that, but can't seem to. I can intentionally make some of the air come from my nose, but the vast majority is always through my mouth. Even if it hurts, I'm still curious about how it's done. Link to comment

count tiszula
Most children [not all] and many ladies use the classic sneezing method; they open their mouths to inhale and close it to exhale; the exhalation is partly blocked and the classic Ah-Choo noise is produced. Meanwhile the lovely tickle in the nose has stimulated the production of exquisite mucus; the breath which cannot escape through the mouth properly is forced through the nose together with the gorgeous noseslime and any irritants. This must be the evolutionary purpose of the sneeze, but evolution is a cruel mistress. At puberty, lungs expand hugely in size, and at the risk of being offensive to feminists, men develop much bigger lungs than women. For most men and some ladies, the exhalation becomes so violent that they can no longer close their mouths, so the vast majority of the breath goes straight out of the mouth in a typical horrid male sneeze ; any attempt to redirect the breath through the mouth is painful and can be dangerous....[see Robert Graves's classic sneezing story "He went out for a rhine" , where a character actually dies from trying to stifle ...and serve him right say I]How then is it possible for people with such huge sneezes to stifle? That's what I want to know.... Link to comment
Vetinari
How then is it possible for people with such huge sneezes to stifle? That's what I want to know....Well I'm fairly sure I wouldn't qualify as a huge sneezer, but I do know that if I try to sneeze entirely through my nose it hurts and is quite unpleasant BUT when I stifle, the whole thing doesn't even get that far. It is all contained by closing off mouth and nose and resisting against any air escaping past the throat at all before it has any chance to get any momentum behind it. Proper silent stifling is very different from what I did as a child which was to pinch my nose and shut my mouth, which again would be very painful and likely to blow all manner of stuff into my eustachian tubes. And so, I suspect the actual size of the sneeze might not make as much difference as you would expect because the action really quells all air movement before it has any chance to get going. But it's very rough on the nose and the ears, so I don't recommend it. Link to comment
Chanel_no5
I accidentally did that yesterday. I was going to stifle but somehow my brain didn't connect with my body, so I have no idea what I was thinking. It's not hard to do; just keep your mouth completely shut and let it all out through your nose. Like others have said, it hurts terribly though. And it's really messy. Link to comment
gottasneeze1
Is there anyone else that has a hard time doing this, or am I just weird? Link to comment
Sitruuna
Umm... I can do that? Or at least I could. I haven't tried in a long time... xD But yeah, as a kid I kind of enjoyed it and induced so that I closed my mouth in time and all the air came out through my nose instead. ...seriously, I did it too much. Not_Telling
Hmm, sounds like an interesting prompt for an inducing session... Link to comment
Kuchafya613
Actually, I very rarely open my mouth when sneezing. My sneezes are typically 100% with my nose. (And not messy, I might add.) Link to comment
SpookyScarySkeleton
Now I've taken a might I say stupid/impolite way of covering sneezes . I simply pinch my nose and whatever the sneeze debris (uh snot. Mostly nose sneeze ;o but mouth spray too) goes on my hand that I put infront of my mouth. It's just automatic way, I'm trying to get back into the habit of covering by ducking my head in my shirt.. But yah id say me it's half half. Link to comment
Sarah_Snow
Well I tried it and the answer for me is a definite no lol. Link to comment
FreeFluShots
I've done it by clamping my hand over my mouth, but it hurt my sinuses. But when I sneeze it tends to come mostly out of my mouth and a little out of my nose, rather than not at all. So I don't know if this would work for you or not. Link to comment
Sneezologist123
Definitely no for me. I've tried it before, and no matter what I did, a lot of the air still came from my mouth. Link to comment
forbiddenlove1
I tend to sneeze through my mouth too i'd also think that sneezing through noses would hurt and maybe this is why i tend to sneeze from my mouth maybe it is a mental block this might be ur problem too Link to comment
Ciel
Yeah, it's really messy. I would advice you not to do it in public :xI sometimes sneeze from my nose (home alone, of course) when I have a cold and my nose is just so stuffed up that I can't breathe. Sneezing from my nose somehow breaks the wall of congestion. But it's exhausting and I get a headache if I do it too often. Link to comment
NorthernLady
I just tried it... resulted in a strange sneeze for me. Weird snorting sound, half the sneeze exploded wetly into my hand anyway and it kind of hurt the back of my throat Will not try this again. Link to comment
