Danny Phantom Drabble

I remember being really into this show when it was airing and had always wanted to write something within the fandom but never had a chance to. Fulfilling this request was fun! I haven't watched it in a while (other than a few episodes I watched the other night) so the general feel and characterization might be a little off. Sorry if they are! Here you go, Emily!

--

“Danny? Hey man, are you okay?” Tucker Foley asked as he approached the raven-haired teen. “You look totally exhausted.”

Danny shut his locker and faced his friend for the first time that day. His eyes had dark shadows underneath them and his complexion was a drained shade of ivory, contrasting the pink coloring his cheeks and nose.

“Huh? Doe, I’b fide, Tuck.” Danny contradicted himself by sniffling thickly. “Guh. I was up fighting ghosts until 4 A.M.”

“You could have called one of us to help you,” Sam said from behind the duo. “I’m sure it would have gone a lot more quickly.”

Huh’ksxCHu! Nah,” Danny replied. “The first ones appeared past midnight, I figured you’d already be sl-sleeping – huhht’pSCHeh!

“Gesundheit,” Tucker offered. “You sure you’re not getting sick?”

Danny shook his head, his eyelids drooping a little. “Don’t worry about me, guys. I’m fine. Really.”

“Really? Because you look like you’re about to fall over,” Sam noted, and quickly slung the half-ghost boy’s arm around her shoulders to cease his swaying. He felt warm, she noticed silently, but perhaps that was because she had only just come inside on a chilly autumn morning while her friend had been inside a heated building for longer than she had.

“Hey, you don’t have to—” Danny started.

“Yes I do,” Sam interrupted just as the bell rang. “I’m pretty sure you’ll be late to class otherwise.”

“Speaking of late,” Tucker said, turning from the others where the hallway split in two, “I’ve got Lancer first period and he goes crazy if you’re late. I’ll see you guys at lunch!”

“See ya!” Sam called before slowing down and letting Danny unwrap his arm. “You think you can walk now?”

“Yeah,” Danny answered. “I’m okay, Sam. Thanks.”

“Maybe you ought to go home and get some rest,” Sam suggested. “You really do look terrible.”

“Gee, thanks,” Danny teased. “I’m a just little tired. But I’ve felt worse, I promise.”

“I’m just… worried about you,” Sam admitted quickly. She felt heat rush up to her cheeks, as if she were revealing an ultra-personal secret. Lightheartedly, she added, “You work too hard sometimes.”

“Huh… huh’tSHu! Eh’ktSCHXu! Sorry – haht’tCHXuh!

Sam blinked. “Wow. Um. Bless you.”

K’tCHHu! Ugh. Sorry.” Danny repeated with a sniffle. “I’ve been sneezing nonstop since I woke up. I… huhhh… hh’AEtschUu!” With the final sneeze, Danny flickered to his intangible form for a moment before transforming back.

“Has that been happening since you woke up?” Sam inquired.

“Odce or twice,” Danny confessed stuffily. “It happe’d whed I got your cold that ode tibe too though. I thidk it’s norbal.”

“Danny, that’s really dangerous!” Sam exclaimed. “Why would you come to school and risk going ghost every time you sneeze?”

Danny sniffled a few times before answering. “Relax, Sam. It’s not like it happens every time.”

Sam opened her mouth to respond when a stray teacher approached the two of them.

“I knew I heard a ruckus out here!” She exclaimed knowingly. “Shouldn’t you two be in class?”

Sam gave Danny an apprehensive look as he murmured, “I’ll see you at lunch,” and the two of them walked their separate ways.

--

Sam took a bite of her veggie wrap as she watched Danny come into view from across the schoolyard. He definitely looked worse than before – his shoulders were slumped and his nose was bright, bright red. His eyes were unfocused and his expression bleary and confused.

“Danny!” Tucker called from his spot at the picnic table across from Sam. “Over here!”

The half-ghost boy blinked slowly and took a few wobbling steps before collapsing only a few feet from their table.

Sam and Tucker were at his side in a heartbeat. “I think he’s unconscious,” Tucker noted.

“And he’s burning up,” Sam added. “…Which is saying something, since his natural temperature is already so much lower than ours is.”

“Yikes.” Tucker and Sam lifted their friend and sat him down on the picnic bench, just in time for him to go intangible before phasing back to normal once more.

“And he’s started doing that too?”

“I should take him home,” Sam suggested. “Or at least call his parents to pick him up, or something.”

“Not home,” Danny murmured, finally awake.

“Danny?” Sam pressed, helping him sit up by allowing him to lean against her torso.

“My parents are at a convention until Monday,” Danny explained. “And my sister’s visiting colleges. Nobody else is home right now.”

Sam frowned. “You can’t be alone when you’re this sick.”

“Guys, really, I’m—”

“Seriously, dude?” Tucker said. “You literally just passed out in front of us. Do not try and convince us that there isn’t something wrong.”

Huh’stCHHxt’uh! Ugh. Fide.” Danny sighed exhaustedly, followed by a series of thick sniffles.

“Come on,” Sam prompted. “We’re taking you home.”

Ahhh! Sorry, I'm not the best writer and I haven't done this in a while! But I hope you liked it! And I can continue if you want!

Not the best writer? Don't sell yourself short, this was AWESOME! I'm not a really big Danny Phantom fan (though I used to watch it often), but you got me reading this whole thing with all my attention. Your characterization is great, and I loooooove your spellings!!

With the final sneeze, Danny flickered to his intangible form for a moment before transforming back.

^ Also, this. Making a character's power activate when they sneeze just makes the fic instantly better. :D

Oh, this was so good!!! And not a good writer? Ha! A bigger lie has never been told. I used to love Danny Phantom but I stopped watching it when it only came on on the higher channels, late at night, or on Netflix. This is a refreshing little drabble that reminds me of the good ole' days. Oh, and speaking of little drabbles, please continue this? Pretty please? This was awesome!

BYE! :bleh:

P.S. Umm, in your drabble you mentioned something about Danny catching a cold from Sam before. I was just wondering if that was in an actual episode?

BYE! Again. :bleh::bleh:

Danny’s head was pounding. Like, really pounding. Throbbing, even, and to such an intense degree that his vision had begun to blur and spin for the second time that day. It was weird, really, because he wasn’t usually prone to this sort of thing. Sure, maybe once in a while he’d get a headache to go with a particularly bad case of the flu – but never anything a dose of aspirin couldn’t fix.

But this time was different, and Danny wondered why. The illness had come on so suddenly; it was difficult to pinpoint exactly where or how he could have come down with something so horrible.

Danny’s knees buckled from the severity of the attack and he leaned to his left for support.

“Whoa!” He heard Sam cry, and then felt his frame being held upright by a pair of strong hands.

“I’ve got him,” Tucker’s voice assured, and Danny’s hot skin was no longer in contact with Sam’s bare arm.

Danny put a hand to his head and steadied himself. “I’m alright, guys,” he said, but he really did feel the opposite – and he knew that he was doing a poor job of hiding it.

“We’ll stop at my house,” Sam decided. “It’s a lot closer and I don’t think you should be walking any further than you have to.”

“Aren’t we going to get in trouble for skipping school?” Danny asked. “Casper High isn’t that big… it’s not like they aren’t going to notice we’re gone.”

“No worries,” Tucker said, pulling out his PDA and tapping the screen fervently. “I’ve got a way into the school’s system.” After a few more taps, he pocketed the device. “There. According to the school’s digital attendance sheet, we’re all marked down for excused absences for the rest of the day.”

Having such a tech-savvy friend made for extreme conveniences in these sorts of situations.

Hh’ETschUH!” Danny sneezed suddenly as they arrived at Sam’s doorstep, this time activating his ghost ray and sending a beam of energy into the atmosphere, barely missing the siding on Sam’s mansion.

“What was that?”

“That… hasn’t happened before, has it?”

Danny sniffled. “Nope.”

Sam hurriedly unlocked her front door and rushed her sick friend inside. “Come on, we can’t risk anyone seeing you like this.” She paused. “Although if you weren’t feeling so crappy that sneeze would have been pretty cool.”

“I guess it is a good thing you guys brought me back when you did,” Danny realized as he collapsed on the couch. His vision began to sway again and he could feel the pressure in his sinuses increasing.

“Maybe you should take a nap,” Tucker suggested, making himself comfortable in a nearby armchair.

“That’s a good ide-aa… uh… uht’tSCHOO!” At that moment, Danny went intangible and fell through the couch. “Ugh. Great.”

After the half-ghost boy picked himself back up, Sam came into the room with a bottle of water and two pills.

“Take these,” she instructed, and sat down next to Danny on the couch. “It’s supposed to be the best cold medicine around.”

Danny eyes the pills suspiciously. “But we don’t know if this is a… normal cold, do we? I mean, my powers—”

“Hey, you said so yourself,” Sam interrupted, “this happened the last time you were sick too. Your ghost half’s probably just as sick as you are.”

Danny broke into a fit of coughing, which left his throat raw and brought him to intangibility once again. “I guess anything that could help is worth a shot.” He downed the pills and leaned back into the couch, pressing on his eyes as if it would help to alleviate the pressure.

But before he could even fully relax, a telltale blue wisp floated from his mouth, indicating the nearby presence of a ghost. He sighed heavily. “Hold on, guys—” he started to stand up, but was gently pushed down by Tucker.

“I got this,” Tucker said with determination, pulling one of the Fentons’ weapons and the thermos from Danny’s backpack. “You just rest.” He turned to Sam. “Can you take care of him for a few hours? I have to be home for dinner but I can come back after then.”

“It’s fine,” Sam said with urgency. “Now go take care of whatever’s causing trouble!”

“I’m going, I’m going!” Tucker replied, stepping through the door and running down the street.

And then the house was quiet.

After a few moments, Danny dazedly asked, “Sam, what was in that medicine? I feel… like…” His voice trailed off, and he slowly closed his eyes and fell onto his side with his head in Sam’s lap.

Aww, sorry that was so short! I can write more if you'd like! But if you guys want that to happen... can you help me out? I don't know where to go from here!

“Although if you weren’t feeling so crappy that sneeze would have been pretty cool.”

I LOVE this line! It is so true to the comical tone of the show. It made me laugh.

And I love all of it as well. Nice work! I'm very happy. :D

I can write more if you'd like! But if you guys want that to happen... can you help me out? I don't know where to go from here!

It's always fun to watch the sick hero try to be a hero and fight anyway. Like if Tucker and Sam get in over their head and sick Danny is their only hope. Just and idea, if you wanna continue. ;)

Thank you for writing this! I <3 Danny Phantom.

Reading this for like the third time today haha

either I'm like super obsessed with Danny or your writing is astronomical or both

and -ahem- I think Danny should totally go ghost and fight anyway :'D cause he would go ahead and do just that anyway, cause he'll start worrying about Tuck not coming back after a while

I swear the fetish makes my sadist meter go past the red zone ; u ;

Posted

AHHHH you guys make me so super happy omgomgomg thank you! Wow! That is so nice! Seriously you have no idea how much it means to me that you like my writing! I've never been good at capturing the humour in most shows so knowing that I did okay here is just fantastic hehehee.

You're so right... I would love to see Danny try and fight while he's also battling a cold would be THE BEST. So I am going to make that happen! I'm awful at writing fighting/action scenes though. Like really really bad. But. I am going to try my best here! I'll start writing again tonight~

Anything else you want to see? I need all the help I can get!

OMG ALL THIS ICE CREAM IS MAKING MY GEARS WORK LOL

I just got back from another Danny Phantom marathon... I really cannot stop watching this show! Sorry this part took so long; I've been kind of busy! But here it is, even if it is brief.

--

Sam noticed that even through his congested snoring, Danny looked incredibly serene while he slept. His mouth had parted slightly and his flushed face was entirely still. She brushed his hair back from his eyes.

Then, her phone rang.

“Hello?”

“Sam, it’s Tucker! I need backup over here!”

Sam panicked. What about Danny? She couldn’t go off to fight and leave him alone. But at the same time, she couldn’t leave Amity Park in only Tucker’s hands and let it be destroyed.

“Why? What’s going on?” She asked urgently.

A massive roar sounded in the background, and then a battle cry from Tucker and a lot of sickening snaps.

“Undergrowth is back!” Tucker cried. “Not as strong as before but still way too powerful for me to take down by myself. I can’t hold him off much longer!”

“I’ll be right over,” Sam promised. Carefully, she lifted Danny’s head and slipped out from underneath it. She pulled out a pen and paper and scribbled a note, which she then taped to his chest.

She gave the sick half-ghost one last glance before heading out the door.

--

Less than an hour after Sam had left to assist Tucker in the fight, Danny woke up. His head felt a lot less foggy and his balance was nearly back to normal, but a slight headache still remained in addition to his increasingly stuffy nose and sore throat. He still felt sick, although his coherency had (mostly) returned.

When Danny sat up, he noticed a piece of paper taped to his chest. In Sam’s pointy handwriting, it read: Danny, Tucker and I are fighting Undergrowth. We’ll be back as soon as we can. Don’t worry; we have it under control. Feel better. –Sam.

“Undergrowth?” Danny echoed just before he gasped and a cold blue wisp escaped from his mouth. He looked out the window to see its borders covered in vines that he didn’t remember being there before. In the distance, he heard a scream.

“They most certainly do not have it under control. I’m going ghost!” However, in the middle of transforming, Danny sneezed – “huh’ETxchUu!” – and the glowing rings stopped. Danny shook his head. “Darn it! Now I’m going ghost.”

This time, the transformation worked and Danny was flying in the direction of the fight.

Undergrowth wasn’t too far from Sam’s house, and thankfully hadn’t sprouted his mind-controlling roots yet. Sam and Tucker were assaulting him with a variety of the Fentons’ ghost-fighting weapons, but it was no use – the villain would simply regrow his damaged parts.

“I am so not in the mood for this, so we’ll make it quick,” Danny said to the overgrown fichus and sending a beam of ice onto some of his roots.

“Danny!” Sam called. “You shouldn’t be out here!”

“I’m fine!” Danny called back, and continued to dodge Undergrowth’s attacks and counter them with his ice powers.

Finally, the time came for Danny to freeze the roots that were underground. He went intangible and phased beneath the streets and began to use his ice beam, shivering as he did so.

Finally, the last root had been frozen and Danny returned to his two friends with his arms wrapped tightly around his torso and teeth chattering.

“Dude, you look awful,” Tucker told Danny – as if he didn’t know.

“I f-feel even worse,” Danny said grimly. “ Hah-IT’schUH! C-can we go back inside?”

Danny transformed back into his human self and finally stopped shivering, although his skin was flushed an even darker shade of red than it had been before.

“Your fever’s probably spiking to compensate for your ice powers,” Sam said. She grabbed Danny by the shoulders to steady him. His weight shifted onto her all at once and he shut his eyes.

Any more suggestions?

Haha, sorry for jumping on the bandwagon so late, but I enjoyed it so much, I had to comment. ^^;

So cute~ I'm feeling seriously nostalgic for this show. :)

So wonderful! Danny is so adorable! Oh, and I agree with Emily! Danny sick, kidnapped, in the ghost world, and his powers are malfunctioning? That sounds absolutely awesome! Oh, um, I mean terrible. Yeah, terrible. ;) More soon!

Well this is just. . . yummy. . . :D

I leave for a week and find TWO more additions to this thread? Just YES. I love every bit of it. Danny kidnapped in the ghost world? I approve!! The ending of this last part just....lkfajsdfljs;d. I wish I had more words, but I'm...I just...don't. My non-words are a compliment, this thread is awesome, and I hope you continue it soon! :D

Posted

Yay! Thanks guys! It's really hard for me to get back into writing but I'm working on it! Who would you like to see as Danny's kidnapper? I'm very much considering Vlad, because I love his relationship with Danny, but then there might be no ghost zone.... ahhh! I don't know! What do you think?

Posted

I love the idea of it being Vlad. I forgot most of the villains in the show, but he'd be perfect for it since their relationship is what it is and it would make everything so...um...complicated for Danny? 4.gif I just wanna see what happens, whatever you decide. :D

Posted

muwahaha complicated relationships? I'm there. I'd imagine Vlad's the one who's most likely to kidnap said sick ghost boy anyway.
