Islander Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I think this is kind of a weird topic but... Is there anyone out there allergic to scented things besides dryer sheets and laundry detergent? In the past two years or so, I find that certain scents and perfumes bother me a lot. Perfumes that are too strong give me headaches. Certain aftershaves do the same. In our bathroom at home, we are using Ivory soap with aloe vera and the scent is in the the air from the time you walk in because the bar is sitting on the sink, that seems to bother me.At the moment, I have in my purse, some Always Fresh sanitary pads. As I never know when I might need these, there are always some in my purse. Normally I use Always Overnight with flexi wings, which do not have a scent. I only use the Always Fresh if the store does not have the other ones in stock.Last week, it was an emergency and the store didn't have the ones I wanted. The clerk said come back tomorrow, which I knew right away I could not. I bought whatever she had in stock which included these Always Fresh. Now those who have used this product will know what I mean. I have complained to the manufacturer before about the scent on these pads and they made note of my complaint a couple years back.,Tonight I was out, and I opened my purse to get something out to read. Well, the scent from the pads had somehow got onto this piece of paper I was reading. What I did was, I read something, put the paper back in my purse; got it out again when I had time to look at it, (twice). By the third time I read this sheet I figured out that the smell came from these Always pads and the scent was now on this piece of paper I was looking at.I came home about 2 hours ago, took the paper out of my purse again to read something on it and of course, there was the scent from the pads. Not too strong, just enough for me to know what it was.I just sneezed about 10 minutes ago and I know it was from this scented pad. I tend to get delayed reactions to these types of things. By the time my nose reacts, I tend to forget what triggers a sneeze.Anyway, it was a loud HUSHHOOO. It's a first for me, allergic to a feminine pad. Just wondered if anyone else has had this kind of reaction.
shy guy Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 I don't have much personal experience with feminine hygeine products, and didn't even know that they came in scented versions. Couldn't that be irritating to the user (and not just in the nasal sense)? Anyway, I did once have a similar experience with some tissues that were impregnated with Vicks Vaporub. The tissue was offered to me by a friend, and I think the menthol broke up the congestion in my nose, leading to a rather intense sneezing fit. I've since tried to replicate the experience, but it doesn't seem to work when you're not congested to begin with.I have to confess that when I first saw the title of the post, I thought it might be about sneezing or blowing your nose into a feminine pad. Now wouldn't that be an interesting idea . . .
smooshi Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 My reaction: "Wait, scented pads could be bought somewhere?"I've never felt any scent on mine, but the choice our shops offer isn't really something...But I often get headaches from perfumes, especially the too strong and sweet ones, so I really don't know... If I ever get my hands on Always Fresh, I will tell you the result.
