RoseFever Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Just happened a few minutes ago, let me tell you a horrifying story. So our computer has been broken for like... Almost a month now. We had to get a new moniter and cleaned the PC and everything. We just got it back, and everything runs perfectly now! (Except some pictures were corrupted, and I had to re download a lot of things) I've missed digitaly drawing soooo badly. But we also upgraded to Windows 7, which is okay, I guess, but theres this little thing on the side that scrolls through pictures on your computer. My sister Alex pointed it out because it was rolling through pictures and my cat GIFS for Tumblr, which are very cute. But then it started to roll through pictures of younger me...And then my drawing wips, and it was all really cute fun until I realized that I'm STUPID ENOUGH TO SAVE FETISHY WIPS ON MY COMPUTER.I nearly had a heart attack when I realized that my sister could scroll through something that I didnt particularly want her to see (LYK, especialy your pic XD;;; But I dont know if its still on there ;x; I kinda wish it wasn't, if she saw thatttt.) ...I freaked out and yelled at her telling her that I was embarrised because there might be some drawings on there that were bad and old and I dont want her to laugh at me. (Im such a bad liar, but she totally took it, but still scrolled through the pictures)My dad probably heard us fighting over it and I ended up threatening her telling her that I would print out her internet history on a bilboard. Im so mean ;o; But come on she kept asking to look through and I was so scared! That ever happen to anyone? Family/friends finding fetishy pictures? Ugh ;x; HOW WOULD ANYONE EVEN EXPLAIN THAT???
Anonymouse Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 EEEK. Does your whole family share the computer? I'd be terrified to have fetishy pictures on a communal computer, even if I took every precaution to hide the content from the other users. When I was like, six I drew fetishy (though I didn't know it at the time) pictures and SHOWED THEM TO MY MOTHER AND LIKE, FIVE FRIENDS SHE HAD OVER.More recently I found a very fetishy, very sexual roleplay I'd done over Skype and printed out to read at my leisure on the floor near my bedroom door, when it had previously been in a bag. I thought my mom might have been rooting around in my stuff but she never said anything about it, so to this day I tell myself my dog must have been trying to eat it or something.I also had a friend look over my shoulder while I was writing a fetishy story and I freaked out more than I meant to and slammed my hands over the screen. I kind of did what you did and told her it was a WIP and I was embarrassed and didn't want her to read it yet. She knows about my fetish but that doesn't make me okay with her reading fiction I write about it.
RoseFever Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 Yes my whole family shares the computer, but I am the one who hogs it mainly for drawing purposes. I'm pretty confident when it comes to hiding the fetish. I often use my laptop to access SFF, even when theres people around. This just... Took me way off guard XD.I know exactly how you feel about the reading-over-your-shoulder-fetish fics part. I have a rather persistant friend who likes to read mine at any means nessesairy .///. Though, I ususaly end up succumbing to her constant pleas, but she just says its cute...ASDFJKL; WHY.
Hankysneeze Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 OMG that would be my worst nightmare some viewing my browser history! I always do a fetish cleanse when I have been on the forum or just the Internet in general!!!
alias Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 I just discovered that on Microsoft Word, you can adjust the security setting so that you must provide a password in order to open the document. Perhaps there is a way to do this for pictures you save as well?
smooshi Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Although I have my own laptop, I always take special care of "fetishy files".As I save my and other people's stories as MW documents, I always "code" them using those symbol fonts, so I can just turn them back to Times New Roman when I want to read it. And I save file name as: "Chemistry essay" or something like that.
VividBubbles! Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 (edited) Ugh, Dakoters! That sounds like my WORST nightmare! And stuff like that has happened multiple times to me! My most recent was when I was over at my friend's house. I was using her iPod and she was using mine because she wanted to get on wattpad from it. I don't get the Internet at her house but the wattpad app I have on my iPod lets you save the stories you're reading onto the iPod so she could still read the stuff I had read/was reading.Anyway, I had a BUNCH of fetish websites up and even a story so when she clicked on safari she could see what I was on but she couldn't access anything. However, she could still read the story. About half an hour after I gave her my iPod I asked her what she was reading. She told me she was just reading some Harry Potter story but I have a few in my wattpad library so I wasn't that concerned until I looked over her shoulder. She had been reading the fetish story I was on! I swear I turned the brightest pink ever! About five minutes later she went to the bathroom and I exited off all the fetish websites I was on and deleted my history and a few bookmarks I had. (I'm just that paranoid.)However, I left the story up because she wasn't finished with it yet (close to finished but not quite: she was far enough to read the fetishy parts) and I thought it would make me look even more suspicious if I freaked about her reading something. I pretty sure she figured me out though. Anyway, yeah, I hate it when I'm almost discovered! It makes my stomach all loopy and I can usually make up stories on the spot but with the fetish I can't think of anything to say that's even remotely believable! Sorry that happened to you!BYE! NoV Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Aah! Nothing quite like the feeling of a 'near miss' Seriously though, I have had some truly heart in the mouth moments, despite being my normally highly cautious self. I remember once while at university I sent a fic I had found online to the wrong printer, and only found out because a friend arrived at holding the fic saying 'I got your work for you'. Luckily it always printed with a named coversheet and they hadn't looked at what was underneath it!
Copper Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Well, to begin with I'd like to say that you can easily turn that particular Win7 function off so as to be rid of the constant woes and worries, but there's always the chance that someone chances across them anyway. I am particularly paranoid about the "last open documents" list and of a default function in the latest version of firefox that will pull up small preview windows of all the latest sites you have visited when you start a new session. .___.Now, my computers are all my own, but I always freeze up when someone asks to borrow my computer.Only last night my ex was over and opened the browser which promptly told her that I had recently been looking atthe 'sneeze fetish forum', and a youtube sneeze compilation. OHGOSHLOOKATTHETIMELETMESLAMTHATLAPTOPSHUTFORYOU.
Bluebird Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 OH GOD YES.Back before I got my laptop, I RARELY came on here before I got my iPod, and even then I couldn't upload artwork because of the Mac computer my family shares. So I'd always plan ahead and wait until I was home alone to scan a fetish related drawing in. But ALL OF THAT STUFF IS STILL ON IPHOTO AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET IT OFF.It's old crappy stuff, like that pic of Quinn I did in 2010 and an even earlier picture of Volkner from Pokemon. But it's still there and I can't figure out how to get it off. xDThank God though that my parents have kept silent about it, especially my mother. |DI'm also always nervous about my family using this laptop for any kind of research because of the shit I Google >>; as well as the fetishy content on MY pics/docs on here. Especially my treasure trove of clips. But I'm working on it. Slowly but surely.
VividBubbles! Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 I just came back here to comment on Paws siggy! I love it! Dipper is so adorable! "Aww, you sneeze like a kitten!"
Bluebird Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Momentary hijack: X3 yay! Another Gravity Falls fan! Dipper's just one big ball of adorable kitten-sneezes. ...okay, back on topic now xDD; the only one who's not so nosy about this whole sharing of laptops and SFF-ing is my twin sister. I love her with all my heart because she's the only one who won't poke around for stuff.
LeapYearKisses Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Hahaha, I've become a lot less paranoid about my browser history and stuff now that I'm over 18. I mean, my parents can't really tell me what not to look at anymore, plus I have my own computer! I remember how it was when I was younger, though, and I feel for you, Dakoters! I used to have a heart attack every time my dad used the computer because he was savvy about things. Even deleting the history was suspicious, so I always went through and selectively deleted all the "bad" stuff. I can only remember a few close calls, though neither is really sneezing related:Once when I was younger I was scanning a drawing I had done for an acquaintance online (I used to run a virtual art shop on Gaia Online ) that was pretty damn suggestive and my mom found me. She sort of yelled at me, but actually didn't end up taking the drawing... (I still have it, and it's terrible. XD)Another time my friends were looking at one of their FF.net accounts and they asked me for mine. I was SO worried about what they'd say, since I have a lot of kinky and/or M-rated stuff on there. I actually had to leave the room while they were looking... In the end neither of them took it remotely badly, though. Dakoters, I don't want you to get in trouble about my drawing, so if you have to delete it, DO IT! I'd feel really, really guilty if that made your parents mad at you or revealed your fetish or something. ^^; In the end, I'm just a stranger online (it's kind of like my first encounter, actually...) so don't feel like you need to do anything uncomfortable! Ali Marie Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Oh, Good Gracious!During a bad storm last summer, lightening struck my house & fried my desktop computer. On my desktop everyone has there own username. (So all of my stuff was very well hidden) That left me with no choice but to use the laptop. Our only laptop. Everyone in the house used the same laptop. All Eight of us. It was my Grandfather's laptop & he didn't take very good care of it. The screen jumped around alot & the bottom of the screen had a visual glitch, (From being stepped on) so if you minimized a window, (Which I did frequently to hide Fetish-y stuff) you have a hell of a time trying to get it back! The plug for the charger was also comepletely severed from the chord & held togather with electrical tape. (How did it get like that, anyway?) So, sometimes it refused to charge & it just died. Whenever you charged it again, whatever you had on the screen on that exact moment it died, was still on the screen once you able to turn it back on. The first night that it died on me I panicked & I wrote on a piece of cardboard & taped it to the laptop. "DO NOT TOUCH IT UNTIL YOU SHOW ME HOW TO USE IT!!!" Edited July 25, 2012 by Alexandra Marie
Bluebird Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Oh goodness, Alexandra, that's not good D: that actually reminds me of the laptop my grandparents own...we used to use our now-deceased uncle's old, slow-running laptop for all computer things. After two years or so, we were able to switch from using that to a nicer yet still decreasing-in-quality laptop. But that laptop is a shared computer between seven people, 11 if my cousins & aunt were here. So before I had a laptop of my own, I used my grandparents' laptop. But of course that would send me into mass panic because I'm almost sure I've left fetish-y content up by complete accident at least once or twice. Not just searching for stuff either- I've kept fanfiction on that laptop that I am so not proud of. Now it's barely used, thank goodness, but it was always still pretty jarring.Same with my mom-mom's old Macbook. I have one particular fetish fanfiction on there that is almost embarrassing to actually read. Thankfully I don't think she's ever found it. Edited July 25, 2012 by Paws
Hollow Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Thank God that my family respects my privacy... I know that they won't mess with my computer... At least I hope so, because if they would, there are too much evidence in my laptop...
Ciel Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I sometimes write sneeze fic for my own pleasure, and they are extremely embarrassing stuff. And recently my dad started updating the computer/ setting up time machine backup, which backs up a copy of every single document at regular intervals! oh no So I quickly transferred all my files to my email and deleted them from my computer.
OhMeOhMy Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Two words: External hardrive.I don't share my computer with my family, but just to be safe, I keep all porn/suggestive drawings/private journaly stuff on my ext. harddrive. And it fits conveniently in my purse. Away from all nosy peoples.
Orionbob Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I just discovered that on Microsoft Word, you can adjust the security setting so that you must provide a password in order to open the document. Perhaps there is a way to do this for pictures you save as well?Thank you so much for this! I didn't even know this was possible, but after a little googling now all my fic-wips (and a few pictures I copy-pasted into word) are all password protected! That makes me feel a little better, though I am a bit worried about a truly determined person being able to look in the folder in which word stores autosaves and finding stuff. I don't even know how any of that works though, and I can't imagine anyone being that determined anyway. So I'm sure it's fine. Anyway, it's a lot more secure than it used to be! But ALL OF THAT STUFF IS STILL ON IPHOTO AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET IT OFF.It's old crappy stuff, like that pic of Quinn I did in 2010Question 1, which is kind of off topic: would that be Quinn from Mad Dogs (do I dare hope)?I'm also always nervous about my family using this laptop for any kind of research because of the shit I Google >>; as well as the fetishy content on MY pics/docs on here. Especially my treasure trove of clips. But I'm working on it. Slowly but surely.Question 2, which is more on topic: Could you set up separate accounts? Or maybe turn on the guest account thing? That way if anyone wants to use your computer you could switch accounts real quick and let them use the guest account, from which I'm pretty sure they can't access any files on any other account. As long as they would accept you telling them you're just a pretty private person hopefully that would give you some more security.
