Anonymouse
I was just having a discussion with Masking that Skwisgaar from Metalocalypse has two canon-ish allergies. In one episode he has a severe allergic reaction to cilantro right before he has to go on TV and in another Pickles berates him for buying soy ice cream, which makes me think he may be lactose intolerant too.For some reason knowing that he has one, possibly two allergies, even if they're just food related, makes me happy, but I'm not sure why.I guess I just find certain defects with the immune system precious. Anyone else feel this way? Link to comment
JenJen
I had the same thought about the soy ice cream - like he's used to buying it for himself but he bought it for everyone else too. XDI also like allergies that make it difficult for someone to breathe. Not, like, anaphylaxis-level or anything, but some wheezing is nice. Not so big on the "face puffs up and fingers swell" type of allergies, though. Also I know a lot of people here are emetophobes so if you're emetophobic you may want to stop reading now, in fact I'll give you another few words here so you can stop in time, haha - but yeah I also like allergies that make someone nauseous and miserable and clammy (same reason I like seasickness, lol). Even throwing up kinda does it for me in a small way. I think it's a really intimate thing to be with someone when they're throwing up, rubbing their back, getting them water and a cool washcloth afterward. Wow, I'm...really weird. XD Link to comment
Jorm
In fiction I can definitely dig allergic reactions other than sneezing, but in real no so much. Link to comment
Anonymouse
Yeah, I didn't think puffy Skwisgaar was all that attractive, but just the idea that there's something that can cause an allergic reaction regardless of what kind of reaction it is is appealing to me.Aww, I like the wheezing too, in fiction. Or just general itchiness. I'm also okay with (emetophobia warning...) throwing up. I don't get turned on by it but I don't get grossed out, either. But I love a good scenario where the character is feverish or something and gets sick and has someone holding their hair back or rubbing their shoulders or something. It's sweet. Link to comment
SusieQusie
For some reason knowing that he has one, possibly two allergies, even if they're just food related, makes me happy, but I'm not sure why.Good point, and good topic! I think I'm the same way. Although I doubt I would feel comfortable around someone who is having such a severe allergic reaction. But I do like just the mentioning of "allergies" even if the person isn't sneezing. Link to comment
pinknose
Aside from sneezing, I'm also a big fan of itching allergies. Idk why. I just find the idea adorable, especially if the person/character in question is really whiny about it.I agree that allergies like those are more attractive in fanfics than in real life, but mostly just because I'd feel guilty for enjoying someone's suffering that much in real life. Shay
Well in fiction I'll enjoy reading about asthma and anaphylaxis, but it's definitely not something I'd get enjoyment out of in real life. When I read about that stuff in fics I don't really enjoy it the same way that I enjoy sneezing. It won't turn me on like sneezing will, but it's hard for me to really define the way I enjoy reading about more severe allergies. The best way I can explain it I guess is that I just enjoy reading about it for the intensity and urgency of the situation.I actually have a few sneeze fics in my head that I haven't actually written down yet(and don't know if I'll ever get around to doing so) where there will be a situation in which a character starts out with sneezing but then the allergy attack will then progress into either an asthma or anaphylaxis type thing. Hawkeye
But I do like just the mentioning of "allergies" even if the person isn't sneezing.Yeah, that. I think it goes back to what I think is probably the core reason behind my fetish - I really do think it's the vulnerability aspect of it. I like reading stories that involve a character who is vulnerable (for instance, injured/sick, or in this case, having an allergic reaction) and then someone else taking care of them. But again, only in fiction - in real life I'd never get any enjoyment out of someone having a really bad allergic reaction. Especially because I know how not-fun certain non-sneezy allergy symptoms are (like itchiness and hives and whatnot). Link to comment
VoOs
Not really, no.I actually tend to find things like food allergies and hives to be a bit of a turn-off. I even used to have a slight phobia of seeing people with hives when I was very small. It still makes me feel a little uncomfortable, like I'm faced with something contagious, even if I know it's caused by allergies.I guess I can sometimes like itching allergies if they come without the hives, or if it's an allergy that only affects the eyes or the throat, but for the most part... I'm strictly a nasal allergies fan. Link to comment
Dusty15
I don't particularly like food allergies, but I do like allergic asthma, though I prefer if it's related to pollen/dust/etc. And certainly not life-threatening levels...but allergic wheezing = definitely an interest. Link to comment
retrofan191
It can be cute. but it doesnt really do anything for me. Link to comment
chalkdust
I like the wheezing too. Also an itchy allergic rash that they are trying not to scratch is kinda cool too. Link to comment
Chanel_no5
I admit it. I am and always have been very intrigued by skin diseases, sores and rashes of all different kinds. The thought of them make me feel itchy all over though. I don't get excited about it the way I do about sneezy allergies, but I find it very interesting and I want to poke at it. I find it so interesting actually that I once had plans on becoming a dermatologist. Link to comment
chalkdust
Man, Now I have this image of getting someone allergic, then trying her up so she cant blow her nose or scratch her allergic rash.... Link to comment
Anonymouse
Chanel, that's so cool. AND SKYE YOUR SIGNATURE. I was just thinking about that scene yesterday and how hilarious it was. Thor's just sitting there in this tiny restaurant in like full armor trying to understand what the big deal is about shawarma. Link to comment
Bluebird
Any kind of allergic reaction to do with spots I like- moderate rashes and any kind of spot development. Also, asthma. But being that I had asthma as a child I definitely prefer these sorts of allergies in fiction to real life. Link to comment
