VoOs Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) So the other day I suddenly found myself getting turned on by a scene in a movie that had a character laying on his deathbed, pale, sweaty, and coughing himself to tears from a lethal lung disease.Granted, the character was played by an actor I'm very attracted to. Then there is the whole 'some-things-are-sexy-exclusively-in-fiction-and-that's-okay' phenomenon. But yeah. I know it was the coughing and the sweat and the tears that turned me on, not the fact that the character was dying, but it was still a 'WTF, fetish, seriously?!'-moment for me.This fetish. Making me blush and squeal at a death scene. What about you guys? Had any fetish-related WTF-moments recently? Edited August 30, 2012 by VoOs
doggo Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Nothing recently, but yup, if it was my favourite actor........... I would love seeing it.
Anonymouse Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I got hot and bothered during Moulin Rouge, when Nicole Kidman's character was suffering from tuberculosis.I was also sitting with a patient who was like, ninety something but looked much younger. Normally I'm terrified of seeing a patient sneeze, especially when they're old and frail like that, but I kept thinking that I wouldn't mind if this guy did.
megacycle Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I've experienced moments like that, but it had nothing to do with sneezing, coughing, or nose blowing.I have two other fetishes besides sneezing that will make themselves known during certain scenes in certain films, usually when I'm watching said film with my family.*blushes* It is so embarrassing.
NoV Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 I know I have been watching films/TV where sneezing has indicated that a charater hs been sick and or about to die, and I have experienced that conflicted sense of guilt about my feelings... But hey, this is an unusual fetish, and its bound to throw up some awkwardness somewhere Still feela bit odd though...
Salamander Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 ... yup. Exactly that. Exactly those feelings. Awkward. I am more a fever fetishist than a sneezing fetishist, so it happens quite often. My own experience was not watching a film, but reading the letters of John Keats (died of consumption very young, the poor, beautiful, brilliant man). Not only were they the only text to ever make me cry, I was uncomfortably turned on, and it made me feel awful. That's a WTF fetish because he was a REAL PERSON! And he DIED! And it's KEATS. Man's a genius. I shouldn't be even slightly turned on by that. I haven't watched the film about Keats, Bright Star, partially because it would make me sob myself half to death, it might be historically inaccurate, and I'm worried about that awkward fetish feeling. Deadsh0t Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Not entirely sure if I can get away with posting this here, but it's sort of vaguely related so...Injured/bleeding (particularly bleeding) guys do similar things to me. Has to be male, though, for some reason. Like when I was reading the scene in one of the books in the Hunger Games trilogy (I think it's 'Mockingjay') where it details Gale's wounds from being whipped to near death by one of the Peacekeepers (Gale is a character that I find pretty attractive, but only in the books. The guy who plays him in the film is just ...not right for the role), I suddenly found myself thinking about how appealing the idea of a hot guy bleeding like that is. WTF is wrong with me?! xD
Salamander Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Injured/bleeding (particularly bleeding) guys do similar things to me. Yup, that too! I had the exact same reaction to Gale in the books, and to Peeta in the film to some degree, when Katniss was caring for him. I think I started a thread about feeling weirded out because he's so young for me. In the book he didn't do it for me at all, but in the film the actor was just old enough. When I think about it, the first time I really got into hurt/comfort was reading a scene in the first Dragon Riders of Pern where F'lar is injured and he strips his shirt off so Lessa can dress the wound. Anne McAffrey described how intimate washing the wound was and something in my brain went *ping*I don't feel bad about enjoying injury because my impulse is to care for the person and dress the wounds, it's not the same squicky feeling for me as knowing someone is dying. Nice to know I'm not alone on these though, great threat VoOS.
Spoo Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) Oh, man. I totally understand what you mean! I felt this way watching James McAvoy in Atonement. Towards the end of the movie he looked so sickly and disturbed that I found myself even more attracted to him, which was DEFINITELY the wrong thing to feel, considering all he went through. He just looked so vulnerable and feverish... *sigh*I still managed to cry my eyes out at the end of the movie, but I can't deny the fetish-y feelings I encountered before then. Don't even get me started on Hunger, where Michael Fassbender played a man who starved himself to death... Edited August 30, 2012 by Spoo
NameTaken Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Finding much older, unattractive people sneezing to be attractive :/
PaperThings Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Oh, I have moments like these all the time... now I'm concerned, though, because I never before felt guilty about it.I mean, they're fictional, right? And fiction is the place where it's okay to step outside the bounds of what's okay in the real world? But I do always feel rather strange when I'm watching a movie that's incredibly sad, and all the actors are crying, and all the people in the theater are crying, and I'm staring hungrily at the screen. I think I've developed the reputation of 'emotionally unresponsive to stories' when really it's kinda the opposite. Death scenes don't generally do anything to me, though. I'm way too scared of the characters throwing up/coughing things up (which is what often happens) to feel anything, and usually my hands are over my ears just in case.
42686 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 this has definitely happened to me, most recently on merlin, when like half of the episodes are about deadly illnesses or poisons
Heathcliff Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I can relate to this. Many years ago, I overheard two elderly ladies who were having lunch in a cafe talking in loud, rather posh voices. At one point, one of them asked "What's the matter?" to which her friend replied "Going to sneeze!" before letting out two very loud sneezes and getting an enthusiastic "Bless you!" from the other. I've found myself replaying their words many times in my head, and always feel a bit weird when I do- the sneezy comments were nice, but these women were in their seventies and I wasn't attracted to them (or to the sneezes) in any way. Also, much more recently I went through a phase of being slightly turned on by the cartoon 'Mickey's Elephant'. For a couple of days I watched the sneezing part of it so many times over! After that, it seemed to go as suddenly as it came... but woah, I found a sneezing cartoon elephant erotic?
blameitonthe... Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 I can relate. Just before my school got let out for the summer holidays this year, our teacher wasn't in so obviously our class got sent to another random teacher for the double period. We ended up watching the movie 'Amadeus' (If you don't know it, it's basically a movie centred around Mozart's life) It's from sometime in the 1980's, and I actually found the man that played Mozart very attractive. Anyway, near the end of the film, where Mozart is dying from some sort of poisoning, they had a pretty long scene where Mozart was lying in his bed, dripping in sweat, was really pale, and kept coughing a lot. I was surprised with myself when I actually found it really attractive. In the next scene though, his wife came home to find him dead, so yeah. I felt pretty guilty for enjoying his 'dying' scene :$And I wikipedia-searched the actor and what he looks like now.. Turns out he's now an overweight, 58 year old man. -queue the nervous laughter-.
JenJen Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 We ended up watching the movie 'Amadeus' TOM HULCE I love Tom Hulce. His performance in Amadeus was just hnnng. But of course I liked Salieri more, because F. Murray Abraham is just yummy on a stick, especially in those period clothes. If you like Tom Hulce, I'd also suggest The Inner Circle and Animal House (and Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, he plays Quasimodo and his singing voice is lovely). I still he's adorable now, though, even though he's older. He's like a big gay woolly teddy bear.Anyway (lol sorry for the threadjack), I've been watching Scrubs a lot lately (thank you Netflix) and it surprises me just how many times they mention sneezing as part of a joke, and it usually comes out of the blue and makes me blush every time even though I'm alone.
Bluebird Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Actually at work a few days ago, when a customer sneezed I was not necessarily turned on but interested . Later on when I went to marching band today, the same thing happened with this one clarinet player sneezed every time before we started to play a song or part of a song. xD
Lime Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Well frankly this fetish is pretty sick anyway, isn't it?
Chanel_no5 Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) Last time I had a WTF fetish? moment was when my 70-year-old neighbour had a sneezing fit that I found delicious. Now, she really doesn't look that old, and she certainly isn't ugly. I mean, Meryl Streep is hot, so is Helen Mirren, Goldie Hawn... all in their sixties. Hell, Jane Fonda is smokin' hot way after 70, so I shouldn't be so surprised about the age thing... but for some reason it feels wrong nevertheless. They could be my grandmother. I think that's what makes me feel a bit guilty. As for people actually suffering - lethal illness, crying, severe injuries, et cetera, even in fiction... no. Absolutely no turn-on. I'm sorry, but I really cannot see anything remotedly appealing in that. *shrug* Edited August 31, 2012 by Chanel_no5
VoOs Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 AndnowIwanttoknowwhatfilmyouwerewatching... The movie was The Other Boleyn Girl, and the actor is Benedict Cumberbatch (because I'm predictable like that ). You can watch the clip here if you want. The first scene has some crying in it too, for those who are into that.
Sitruuna Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 ...Okay, I have to post here. B|I mean yeah lol, isn't fully related to sneezing and so on but... It's still about what I like that way.So yeah, I like illness (usually nothing lethal and nothing that has to do with digestion), not just sneezing or colds... But I also am emetophobic, which usually makes me avoid anything that has to do with stomach issues. Usually. Lately though I have kind of... Not cared when it comes to certain situations. Hell, I fancy the idea of being ill that way while living with R.L (we still don't have an apartment to move into ;3;). And I wrote a story of these two OCs (...uhm, kindofbasedonrealpeopleandtheyaremarried) with the man sick in just the way that would usually make me all uncomfortable in a bad way and hdkadj. To me that was kind of WTF moment.
RoseFever Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Yeah, after getting into the supernatural fandom, a friend whose already seen all the episodes gladly directed me to to the closest episode with illness in it xD. No sneezeing (Except one, which I believe now scared my mind) by the main characters, which saddened me deeply, but there was a good minute while the main characters were fighting Pestilence, and apparently being around him causes you to cough and go all dizzy and collapse. It was pretty nice ID;;;;; I-I don't know, I was sitting there, smiling like an idiot, wishing I could make people around me cough and sneeze and get all sick at a whim, hahahahah!...but yeh, I shouldn't of been that happy.
doggo Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Oh dear, now I remembered. The guy playing Ippolit (or Hippolyte... depending on the translator) in a Russian filmatisation of Dostojevsky's Idiot was almost frighteningly handsome young man. The characer is in process of dying of consumption and is making a total clown of his grandiose self in the process. And I can't lie, I absolutely adored him prancing around all feverish and fragile but oh so passionate and proud, waving his handkerchief around dramatically, coughing, and occasionally crying too when his vanity has been hurt. Dear god, I love him, love him, love him.............. (lookatecute!)
SomeoneRandom Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I've been watching Scrubs a lot lately (thank you Netflix) and it surprises me just how many times they mention sneezing as part of a jokeThey do? How I have I missed these episodes??
snuffles Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 When I think about it, the first time I really got into hurt/comfort was reading a scene in the first Dragon Riders of Pern where F'lar is injured and he strips his shirt off so Lessa can dress the wound. Anne McAffrey described how intimate washing the wound was and something in my brain went *ping*You know... I never really thought about that scene before but now it's stuck in my head And when Lessa wished him multiple more injuries so she can treat him unkindly in the future lol. I did rather enjoy that part. Oddly, I very muchly prefer allergies to illness but I can't write allergy fics to save my life. The stories in my head instead normally involve some sort of deadly disease or condition which would be a total turn-off irl or even some movies.
Shay Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Well I sort of have an allergy fetish in general and I love reading about asthma and anaphylaxis stuff, but they don't turn me on at all the way sneezing does. Well except for this one time when I was reading a fic involving anaphylactic shock and I actually did find myself getting turned on by it and I was so completely horrified with myself that I posted about it on here at the time(I don't think that post exists anymore though, or if it does I can't find it). At least it seemed to be a one time thing, but if it was something that started happening on a regular basis, I guess I'd just have to console myself with the fact that it's a fiction only thing and I'd never get turned on by something like that in real life.
