Dentists

At the moment I'm getting a lot of work done on my teeth (braces etc) so I've been at the dentist/orthodontist a fair amount which got me wondering, what happens if the dentist has a cold/allergies? I mean they're right in you face and they're sort of bent over which wouldn't be good for a runny nose. Also what if they're doing something really fiddly and important and they need to sneeze? They can't exactly drop what they're doing (well they can but it would be messy). Also wouldn't they have to wash their hands like crazy? I remember being at a check up once and my dentist sneezed but it was after I was done. Also what if you're a patient with a cold/allergies and they're feeling around your mouth when you need to sneeze? Or have to breathe through your nose for something but can't? I'm actually kinda hoping that my dentist will have a cold next time which is horrible but I'm curious. Any dentists on here? Any experiences?

(Edited because I used "a lot" twice in the first line and I left out an "r")

interesting thought...I have had a dentist sneeze during an appointment once. Wasn't too bad, though. He wasn't holding any type of equipment or anything, just that little mirror on a stick. Super awkward, though, cause you can't exactly say "bless you"

And while we're on the topic of dentists and sneezing, random story:

When Justin Bieber was younger, (yes, this story is about him), he was at a dentists' appointment and sneezed and bit the dentist's hand. I always found that really funny to picture in my head. Wish I coulda been there......

Ohhh...haha, that would be a treat, because my dentist looks like Seth McFarlane in glasses.

I mean, I would hope that if my dentist actually were sick with something, he would take his patients' health into consideration and take a day or two off to get well. Likewise, I've actually cancelled cleanings before because I've been laid up with a cold and didn't want to infect any of the dental hygienists.

BUT--in Fetish Land, where everything is awesome and real-world consequences don't apply--I'd love to have to sit there while my dentists examines me, turning away every few moments to sneeze into the crook of his arm. And then he'd apologize with that sweet little mellow voice of his. He's so courteous and professional all the time, so he'd probably be really embarrassed that he can't stop sneezing. Maybe he'd even say an increasingly-congested "bless me" after each sneeze (ugh I love when guys say that).

THANK YOU FOR THIS TOPIC. Now I'm just sitting here daydreaming about my dentist...hahaha, no regrets. When is my next appointment again?? *races to the calendar*

Oh lord no. I'm already terrified of going to the dentist's (even though there's never been anything wrong with my teeth) so if I had to sit through a check-up with a sneezy, sniffly dentist, I'd probably have heart spasm like every few minutes. Plus I would stare them down and keep watch for any sudden twitches in the face, quickening of the breath, etcetera. ^^; Too many factors get in the way of my enjoying a cold-ridden dentist.

When I had braces and stuff, there were a fair few times where the orthodontist or her assistants had colds and whatnot, and same with when I've gone to the regular dentist. In my experience, they just casually take the tools out of your mouth, turn to the side and sneeze/cough into their shoulders or elbows. I always find it wicked awkward, especially when it was my orthodontist because I didn't like her. :sweatdrop: So for me it was kind of like "Pleasepleaseplease hurry up and finish whatever you're doing with my teeth. TT^TT"

I've never actually sneezed at the dentist, but there have been times when I've had to hold my breath so as not to sneeze. I think I'd die of embarrassment if I sneezed at the dentist, at least while he was cleaning my teeth or something.

The dentists/dental hygienists I have met here all seem to wear masks. I find it odd that that isn't the same in most places as messing around in people's mouths, with your face close to theirs isn't something I would like to do without one. Especially once you start using any implements that spray water around.

Hhmm, my germaphobe side *would hope* that, but just until the cold isn't as infectious or bad...afterwards oh hell no, I want to see him sick!

Aahh love that fantasy!! Oh you're very welcome! My dentist is really cute, he's in his twenties and lovely so I'm craving a little here. Although it would probably be awkward if he sneezed because he'd be able to feel my heart racing.

Haha the first part of that makes me excited but ok now I see how bad it would be. In fantasy world I'm still going to dream though.

If the dentist were a guy I found really attractive, I would absolutely love it. xD I think it was mostly just that woman, so I just didn't care for it, but somebody else might have been perfectly okay. :3

My dentist is a guy. One of the hottest guys I've ever met. Turns out my hot dentist is one of my close friends' uncle...so that kinda made it awkward.

I'd perfer not to have a sneezy dentist; my mouth Is open and they're working inside it, they shouldn't have a case of the sniffles or sneezes; that takes the term sneezing on someone to a whole new unattractive level. But something about sneezing into a shoulder / elbow = hot!

Oooh this has happened to me.

My dentist who I find extremely attractive is actually a relatively sneezy guy. I've seen him have small sneezing fits twice so far, both instances he claimed allergies.

The most memorable time he was sniffing quite a bit and he'd have to pause during conversation to hold back a sneeze. Is there something about dentists but they must talk to you while they are working on you? I can't remember the actual conversation since I was a bit preoccupied but he kept at it until I guess he couldn't hold back any longer. Then he apologized quickly, got up, pulled off his gloves and trash them, went behind my chair, grabbed a couple tissues, took off his mask, and sneezed a soft muffled double. It was sorta like Issshhh'uh... hesshhhh! Then he'd blow politely, wash his hands, put his mask back on, get a new pair of gloves, apologize and try again. REPEAT x3.

I think I was rather impressed how many pairs of gloves he used on me especially as he got a new pair after each sneeze.

It also struck me as odd how he tried to talk through the sneezes. Is it just me or do dentist just HAVE to talk to clients that are sitting on a chair unable to answer back? Normally I don't make any attempt at conversation if my mouth is full but it doesn't seem to deter him. He's very soft spoken and polite even while he's sniffling behind his mask laughingsmiley.gif
