Does anyone else feel more awkward using a coloured hanky rather than a plain white one?

Hi all

I get embarrassed still blowing my nose in front of people I know and as much as possible avoid it in front of family.

If I'm with someone who's seen me blow my nose before then I don't worry and often honk.

I rarely use coloured hankies in public though and never in front of people I'm with. Maybe if I'm on a train I'll have a quick honk into a plain blue one as long as no-one's sitting right next to me.

For some reason I also find unfolding a hanky in public a little embarrassing almost as if it's easier if it's already unfolded as I can keep it scrunched up have a quick honk then put it back in my pocket.

I'm still not sure if in public I find it more embarrassing to honk loudly (which I prefer as I can get completely clear) or to use a hanky.

Surely no-one else is as awkward about their fetish as me are they?

sort of, i mean back in primary i was really brave with hankies...all the time i used them

then i changed to tissues for several years, and i only started to be comfortable with plain hankies this year in public after i got back into hankies a couple years ago

I prefer colored hankies most of the time. I'll usually pick one that coordinates with what I'm wearing.

Personally, I have a collection of large, brightly coloured bandanas that I love to use as handkerchiefs, including in public. Sure, I might choose a more "regular" hadkerchief for use in business settings etc, but the actual colour doesn't bother me.

I tend to think that if people are likely to notice my loud fog-horn nose-blows anyway, then I might as well go the whole hog and do my nose-blow into something with a bit of style, especially if it is a bigger and thicker handkerchief as well!

I think hankies are gross, just my opinion. I don't like the idea of reusing something that has my snot on it over and over. Id rather use a tissue once and throw it away.

All my hankies are white. I wouldn't use any other colour.

I sometimes use F or childrens hankies when out (specially if am where no one knows me) but around everyone I know, mens hankies of all different shades and colours!

Strangely I'm not really embarrassed to blow my nose in public, even though I am embarrassed to sneeze in public. I always use coloured hankies though. Not fancy ones, just bandanas. I've been known to just blow snot out onto the sidewalk at times too though, which should be humiliating but for some reason doesn't bother me to do at all. I do try to do it discretely/when no-one's looking, though, but that's more for the benefit of others than out of ay shyness about it on my part.

I am the same way, hankyhonk. I hate blowing my nose and sneezing in front of people, and I don't use colored handkerchiefs in public :-( Same with the unfolding too. If I'm taking a walk, and the cold weather makes my nose runny, I'll only unfold the hanky one step, so it's only opened like, 1/8! And it's just a plain white hanky. Just not totally secure about using hankies in public. Merrrr.

Im more comfortable using plain white in public, i will stretch as far as pale blue

I'm comfortable using any hankie no matter what the colour to be honest :-)

Usually,it depends on my mood.I like white with wide,hemstitched borders or at other times,colored,with dark border stripes etc.There are so many styles,colors,sizes,hem styles,weights etc.I always open it fully when l use it,much more blowing in public since l came on the Forum,which is really helpful if you really need to take it out.
