"Alternative Sexualities" Sex Club at Harvard

I'd be tempted but not actually join. You'd need to be very out in the open with that stuff and I just dont think I could be.

Although there are a lot of people for it in the comments there are also a lot of people who make me sad and angry at their closed-mindedness of the subject

I'm sure you'd get a lot of college girls in there talking about they're "soooooo into kinky stuff" when they just went out that weekend and bought fuzzy handcuffs and a blindfold. Never mind all the people who read Fifty Shades of Grey and then think they want to try BDSM stuff. People with actual fetishes probably won't bother because they already belong to a fetish community, be it online or IRL.

I might attend a meeting just to see what people have to say, but I definitely wouldn't reveal my fetish. It seems like a sneeze fetish is different than others, in that it extends outside of the bedroom. In a way, I think that makes it even more private and personal, because other people's presence can invade on experiences. I am only assuming, because I am not a part of the bdsm community, but I feel like there would still be a lot about our fetish that bdsm fetishists wouldn't understand, just as non-fetishists wouldn't understand.

I think it varies by person on who understands what. I have a bdsm friend who thinks this fetish is better than the one she has, and I have a non-fetish friend that doesn't even think it's weird at all. I think no matter in which community you're in, there will be some people who get it and some who don't.

As for me, I think I would not join. Harvard doesn't seem like the place for me anyway, but if it were, I'd probably be too busy studying to join any superfluous extra-curriculars.

I agree with what facet said. I think this fetish isn't well-known enough for people to understand, even if they think they are kink-friendly.

I...I think I'd chicken out, to be perfectly honest. Though I'll mention this offhand every so often and talk about the forum in very subtle ways (you guys make it into my day-to-day conversation more than you'll ever know), I'm not sure if I could go to this. I'm only a kinky person on occasion and even then, it's not often if ever.

Though, was I the only one who thought "sneeze-sexual" when I saw the title? xD

You know i was just thinking, I kind of take issue with the group name. Alternative to what exactly? Everyone has *something* that makes their eyes pop and their hearts thud. It isn't really that unusual to have kink(s).

Alternative to "vanilla" - some "kinks" are very much mainstream to where they are almost traditional. Others.... not so much.

At least that is my take on the reasoning behind the name.

I don't think this would be such a great idea for me, personally. If absolutely 100% everyone was serious about the club and sworn to secrecy and wanted to protect the personal lives of members from outside attack (or even amongst members) then it'd be fine. But that sounds like a very tall order, when all it takes is a single leak or disgruntled member to cause all that fun to end very, very quickly. Sounds good in theory but maybe poor in practice.

That's interesting. When younger I did attend some BDSM parties (not that hardcore though) but even then it didn't really make me think that I had a fetish myself. In a strange way it just seemed like a surprisingly uniform group of kinks represented there. Nowadays I often read blogs that deal with sexuality and especially sexual deviance, but in the end it always seems very removed from my experience of having a fetish. Even among the deviants there seems to be a rather obious main stream... I wonder if that has occurred naturally or is it by some mechanism a product of some sort of "BDSM consumer culture" or whatever like that. Perhaps what's under the surface of leather and rubber might be a way more heterogenous set of imaginative kinks, but we never see it as this sort of deviance has already been standardised too strongly.

Hmmm... sorry for the blabber!

Actually, I just realized that my university has had a club for "academical kinksters" for a looong time already, but I've never just thought about joining, I'm not that much into the extra-curriculars.

That aside, the comments on that article are golden. Sooo funny! Seriously, WTF is it with some people! Such obsession with the sexual life of others, + crazed apocalyptic preaching about the eminent fall of American civilization. Poor things, life must be awfully stressing for them.
