WHO WANTS TO TALK ABOUT THE FINALE?!

ASDFGHJKL! I can't!

My thoughts:

1. Way to bring ALL of Barney's cliche's back full circle

2. I didn't like Barney's ending

3. NO MORE SWARKLES?

4. I didn't like how they spent all Season 9 in the wedding for them to not work out

5. BARNEY GOT A CHICK PREGNANT ! It was bound to happen.. but I thought he was going to end up alone and lonely... it's only because he can't commit to marriage

6. I would like to know the name of Marshall and Lily's third kid. Just curious.

7. THE MOTHER DIES!! WTF?!

8. Really, kill the mother off?!

9. I mean she had her own true love die on her 21st bday... why??

10. TED AND ROBIN. OTP. Way to bring it full circle! THE BLUE FRENCH HORN!!!

11. ASDFGHJKL!!!

12. I liked how they had the ending already taped in the beginning. The conversation between Ted and his kids.

What are your thoughts? I want to hear your thoughts!

I really hated it, tbh :/ Most of the series was spent showing WHY Ted and Robin should NOT be together, and it was repeatedly shown that they were not good together. Just because they're fifteen years older doesn't mean they still won't have those issues.

It was also incredibly shitty to kill off the mother after the whole show made it seem like Ted and Tracy were a happily ever after sort of story. That was so totally UNHAPPY and the whole series up at this point had been greatly misleading. Plus, they kind of just backtracked on a toooon of character development, especially with Barney. Damn, that was just disappointing.

It was just very...unexpected and I did not care for it at all. I think the writers owed us fans more than a simple "this is how I met your mother but she died. Not only that, but her death was shown in about fifteen seconds".

I liked it overall, though there were definitely certain things I wish had been done a bit better. I think I've also been spoiled with Internet rumors (which I chose to actively seek out, so that's on me ), so neither Robin/Barney splitting up nor The Mother dying totally surprised me. (Despite Cristin Milioti saying just a few weeks ago that the Mother-Dying Theory was "ridiculous." Trickster.) I agree that they completely backtracked on a lot of Barney's development, and his sudden epiphany thanks to having a daughter was kind of forced. We never get to see that mother for a second, though I guess that's how the writers wanted it.

I think I'm OK with Barney and Robin splitting and Ted going after Robin again at the end because I've always loved Ted-Robin together. (I won't say "shipped" because I'm not that kind of guy. xD) I resigned myself to the idea that they wouldn't end up together because I knew she wasn't the mother, so that last part did take me by pleasant surprise. Flowerpower, I can tell you preferred Barney-Robin, so maybe a lot less pleasant of a surprise for you, but to each their own.

Things I definitely did like: The fact that when Ted finally first spoke to Tracy, they gave us more than one or two lines. It was a full conversation, and I loved what they did with them having the same initials too. Also, I agree that it was cool we got to hear the kids talk for more than a second, and it felt right for them to point out the story was never about how he met Tracy at all, but about how much he loves Robin. Regardless of who you ship, I think we can all agree Ted has always loved Robin. It's canon, black and white.

Overall, it wasn't perfect but it was a satisfying ending.

I didn't like it not at all. I wanted barney and robin to stay together. I wanted ted and The Mother to have the happily ever after that we've all been dying for since the first episode. I don't think robin and ted should be together. I wanted the mother to not be an exact replica of The Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope. I wanted so much more for how this show ended. I cried literally every time lily did. I was happy that marshal ended up happy, that was about it. I hate that they wrote robin as such a flake. I just. No. no. And I didn't want the show to be over :C

How I feel about it, after a night's sleep:

I still have to do some reflecting. Probably watch the who episode again... but I never shipped anyone in this series but Lily and Marshall because they were already together.

I just simply went along with it.

well I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. I think part of me was always sad Robin and Ted weren't working out, and like the daughter said, most of the story wasn't really even about the mother. Also, I thought it was pretty obvious a few episodes ago that the Mother was probably going to die. What I did hate, hate, hate was Barney regressing. I didn't even think it was written/ acted well (and this is NPH we're talking about, when has that ever happened?)

But overall, I'm pretty happy with it. I was looking foreword to the resolution of the pineapple incident, but that could still happen on the DVD, and I would like to know the name and gender of Marshall and Lily's third baby cause I'm a sap like that. I'm sad it's over.

I know right! I really didn't like how Barney went back to being the original Barney. I feel like the show went way too back to square one.

The only thing that twisted my perspective on the finale was this: "At least Ted and Tracy ended up with their first true love." Hm.... (thanks Tumblr)

I can't tell if I didn't like the ending, or if I'm just sad that it's all over. I did like how it showed what ended up happening to them all over the years, but the Ted and Robin thing just didn't sit right with me.

My thoughts exactly.

I felt like the bulk of season 9 was about how Ted finally got over Robin, except it turns out he didn't? What? I mean, it was cool that they came full circle back to the beginning, with the blue French horn and everything, but they never worked out together. Robin and Barney made a much better couple. I really liked the man Barney became when he was getting married and trying to better himself for her. Speaking of which, I also didn't like how far Barney regressed afterwards and lost all that character development. It made his change of heart toward females after having a daughter of his own seem kinda forced. (Although I'll admit I did cry when he realized that his daughter was the love of his life.) And it was sad to see that couple fall apart after all their work and history together. To be honest, there never was anything wrong with their marriage, it was Robin's job that was putting strain on them. Now I'm not saying she should have compromised and given up on her dream job just for a man, but it seemed like they didn't really even try to work on a solution to keep them together. Like they just gave up when the going got hard. I think it was a jerk move to have the entire season be about their wedding, only for it to be over in the next episode.

And speaking of misleading, it really sucked how for the past 9 years, the mother has been built up to be this awesome perfect foil to Ted; someone who he shares his interests with and has a deep and connecting friendship with underneath their love, who's basically a prettier Ted with boobs, who we all assumed would have a happily ever after kind of story, and then just killed her off in five seconds. And I mean, ok fine, "perfect dream girls" are clichéd and happily-ever-afters might be kinda cheesy, and yeah, this ending is more of a realistic kind of story, but I feel like they could have at least showed us a little more of their ten short years together.

And I definitely would have liked to see more of Marshall and Lily's kids. We never even found out the third baby's name...

Yeah I'm kind of like that too.

I think everyone is really mad at Barney and how he went back to being his horny self. .... I think we all can agree that he made some great character development--I think that's why we're all mad. We hated how Barney went back to being Barney and that just led to the the awkward tension btwn Robin and him and then eventually led to Robin and Ted ending up together.

And I definitely would have liked to see more of Marshall and Lily's kids. We never even found out the third baby's name...

And I think we all can agree on that we'd like to know the third baby's name. Just for obvious curiosity reasons

I think the main problem stems from the fact that, in order to have the child actors still look roughly the same age they were at the beginning of the show, they had to film the ending way back during season 2, not realizing that the story would continue to grow and change and go off in all different directions. And, as anyone who has even written any kind of story knows, the characters end up taking over and the story starts writing itself. It was like they got to the end of the last episode and went "wait a minute,we still have to fit this into our pre-determined ending somehow" and then had to try and cram what the show had become, into their ending that they had thought would fit back in season 2. Which of course meant all the character growth and story arcs had to be undone and the characters had to regress back to what they'd been 7 years ago. And the sad part is, it may have even worked if it had been done better. Like if Barney and Robin's wedding had only been the Season 9 premier episode, with the rest of the season focusing on all the years between the wedding and the "2030 present day". We would have gotten to see Ted and Tracy's relationship a lot more, been with them during the ups and downs of their life, cried with him as he had to watch her slowly die, spent more time with Marshall and Lily's family, gotten to see their kids grow and develop alongside Ted's, see more more of Barney and Robins relationship crumbling than just seeing one bad trip they went on and being told that it was bad, have more of a reason to believe that they couldn't make it work, witness the inevitable drifting apart that happens to people over time, and see Ted re-falling in love with Robin after a few years so it would be more believable when he ended up being with her, rather than the way the show did it, which just made it seem like he never really did move on, and essentially turned Tracy into the surrogate mother of the kids Robin could never give him.

I can't tell if I didn't like the ending, or if I'm just sad that it's all over.

Also, I think I've decided it's the former.

.

You guys have just stated all my thoughts!!! Omg..

The final episode made me feel like the whole program was a complete waste of time...

I don't like Ted & Robin :( I loved Barney and Robin :(

Why thank you, although I have to admit, it took days of recoil until I finally managed to scrape my brains together in such a manner.

Generally, when I have a strong opinion on something, positive of negative, I always like to be able to explain why; I guess, so I can defend myself if the need arises. Haha

I really liked the finale!!! Like, I feel like it was ironic that Barney becomes a dad after all the joking he did to the others. I really do wish that he and Robin had worked out though and that it was their kids.

I had kinda guessed that the mother died when the kids were young a couple of weeks ago. I mean, why else show them a long video about how he met their mother when they could just ask them? I figured she died when they were young and then they started asking questions or something.

I didn't expect/ particulary like that he asked out Robin in the end just because I wanted her to be with Barney, but it was fine.

I really wish we had gotten to see more of Ted, Marshall, Lily, and Tracy's, and even Barney's kids.

I still really liked it though :)

Remember that Robin physically can't have kids.

I wish we could have seem those kids too, but that would have been a lot of extras (kids) running around.

Oh that's right! I forgot all about that! I remember seeing that episode. I haven't seen all the episodes sadly because it started when I was 9 and too young to watch. So I've just been watching as it comes on tv the couple of years (I think two years ago, when I turned 16 and my parents started letting me watch). So I'm missing a few facts, but yeah.

I was too young when it started too, I got hooked on it sometime in high school, prob junior year. I binge watched all the eps on Netflix. :)
