March Hare Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Because ALL the South-American countries who have played a match, have won that match, so far. Gotta watch out for Brazil and Chile especially.Because Spain is starting this Cup with a morale not just hurt, not just crushed, but annihilated - all because a tiny little country with a bigass mouth happens to have a couple of end boss level players. Because the matches look so hilariously random this time (Honduras vs Switzerland, Iran vs Nigeria, South Korea vs Belgium, that kind of thing).Because we can.
NoV Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Ha, I am the least likely person to respond to a post about football, but I'm actually off to a party tonight to watch England vs. Italy. England will most likely get hammered because we always do, but as long as I am also hammered (on drink) it will not be wasted evening. Pretty excited if I'm honest Actually I sometimes feel that me watching is the catalyst for England losing... Maybe I ought to stay home
Joal 555 Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I'm looking forward to a boring nil nil draw tonight because.......you know, England and Italy (It has been a great start to the tournament though, lots of attacking football and goals)
March Hare Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 Hey, last time Spain hammered the Netherlands. And look what happened last night! Nonono, all bets are off now. I wish I could watch loony Rooney and all the rest of them do something completely unexpected, but unfortunately midnight is a tiny bit too late...
Joal 555 Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 ALL the South-American countries who have played a match, have won that match, so farBut not now! A shock defeat for Uruguay against Costa Rica!(Uruguay are one of 3 teams I have in sweepstakes the others being France and Russia)
Heathcliff Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 But not now! A shock defeat for Uruguay against Costa Rica!As I've said before, I know absolutely sod all about football... but at this early stage, it's looking like a really interesting world cup! The Netherlands beat Spain 5-1, Costa Rica beat Uruguay... I've just watched England lose to Italy, but I actually thought England played pretty well and it was (shock horror) an entertaining game.My money is on Iran as an unlikely outsider to lift the trophy.
SneezyRae Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 We don't do football here. I am patiently waiting another week for Wimbledon. Tennis is much more relaxing
March Hare Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 We don't do football here. I am patiently waiting another week for Wimbledon. Tennis is much more relaxingFine. That's another story for another thread, then, isn't it?I would love for Iran to win the trophy, but only for deautomatisation purposes. That country does not have my sympathies in any way whatsoever (although its citizens kind of do).I wish I didn't have to work during the Orange vs Ozzies match. May have to bring a completely illegal radio to the shop...
Ouro Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I wish I didn't have to work during the Orange vs Ozzies match. May have to bring a completely illegal radio to the shop...I meant to watch it, but I'm incapable of a decent sleep schedule and didn't wake up in time I see you pulled another one out though! And now I'll have to settle for watching Spain v Chile even though I have no investment in either of them.
March Hare Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 SPAIN LOST TO CHILE MWUAHAHAHAHAAAA Oranje made it to the next round. Shit yeah they're awesome.
NoV Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Urgh, well pretty much there go England... I really don't know why I bother watching. Oh wait, I suppose there is the BBQ, the drinks, the companionship
March Hare Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 BBQ, drinks and companionship make even the silliness of football (I mean, in fairness, it IS a silly sport) into a great time to be had by all.
Ouro Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Urgh, well pretty much there go England... I really don't know why I bother watching. Oh wait, I suppose there is the BBQ, the drinks, the companionship I thought for a little while towards the end that they might manage to get it together, but alas. At least I got home and put the tv on in time to catch Rooney's one goal... (Although all I could think of the whole time was Frankie Boyle's line about him pacing the touch line like a caged potato )
March Hare Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 Everything Rooney has ever done for football has been spoiled forever in my eyes by a handful of merciless British comedians. No regrets.
zneeze Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I'm not even British and I'm kind of mad England's been knocked out! What's a World Cup knockout stage without the Three Lions?
March Hare Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 Wasn't it Eleven Lions?(Jimmy Carr: "I'm pretty sure we're not allowed to play eleven lions, but if we did, we would certainly have won." Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2010, I believe.)
Ouro Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Everything Rooney has ever done for football has been spoiled forever in my eyes by a handful of merciless British comedians. No regrets. I know Although for the most part I'm still able to think of him as a genuinely great player. Just... also the butt of many a joke at the same time.
