army-girl Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Heya!So here's an odd situation I've been struggling with for the past week a week ago I woke up with an sharp pain in the ribs, I figured I must've pulled a muscle or something somehow. The day went by, it was hurting on and off, but by the evening, I was having a very hard time breathing, it was just too painful. One quick visit to an emergency clinic and a shot of Voltaren later, the doctor says I have an inflation in the muscles between my ribs how does one even develop that? I still don't know.As you might imagine, any activity involving breathing, has been a bit challenging. For a while laughing & yawning would hurt ... and I'm happy to say I didn't really have any reason at all to cough ... but oh boy - sneezing. I was totally dreading sneezing. And for the first couple of days it was something I was thinking about, and really dreading. I mean, deep breaths were painful enough, sometimes even just moving would hurt quite a bit ... so a rapid intake of air and the force of sneezing, I did not want to find out how that feels.I'm not particularly sneezy by nature, but during this last week I did sneeze 4-5 time and even though the inflammation is healing, it's still a doozy. Whenever I feel a tickle, I totally get alarmed and the thing is, I can't sneeze the way I usually do ... this situation has lead to a totally different build-up, instead of one big gasp of air, I have to hitch in short multiple breaths and I try to be very careful, which is apparently somehow more audible. The sneeze itself ... well I don't stifle, because that would be painful too I imagine, and I don't like stifling in general, but err, I just feel like I kinda sneeze more with my nose & mouth than with my lungs now. Does that make any sense? and my sneeze sounds different than it normally does ... though I can't quite put my finger on it.So that's my current and awkward position, I like sneezing a LOT, but till this fully heals I'm gonna be a little bit alarmed every time I feel the urge to, hehehe. I imagine people with fractured ribs experienced a similar problem XD have you ever ... ?A.G.
bingochamp7 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Something similar happened to a friend of mine. She broke a rib and she couldn't sneeze, cough, or even yawn properly. I bet you can imagine how miserable it was for her during allergy season.
