souhya Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 This is almost a sort of olden days country version of Romeo and Juliet. SORRY to start another story. There was a olden days movie on tv the other day and I was so inspired. Tommy is 18, his dirty blonde hair is kept moderately short, but long enough to be perfectly messy. His strong jawline and sharp bone structure give him an edgy look, which is destroyed by his kind eyes. He's lived on his families farm his entire life and is a very hard worker. He's enrolled in school, although he does not always attend. He was 8 years old when he met Sarah and his life has never been the same since. He loves Sarah, he's always loved her. Sarah is 17, her long brown hair is always left dangling over her shoulders and down her back. Her dark brown eyes give little emotion away but her sweet smile can break my heart. She lives just outside of the country boundaries in one of the largest homes in their small town of Westbrook. All her life has revolved around doing well in school and becoming a dentist, like her father. Her mother died the summer she turned 7 years old, around the same time she met Tommy. Everything changed that summer. ***********Sarah jumped as something slammed against her window. "Dammit." She muttered to herself. "I told him to chose the smallest stones possible." She rose from her desk and skipped to her bedroom window, pushing it open and searching in the dark for exactly who she knew was there. "Are you trying to break my damn house or something!" She whispered leaning out the window to finally see Thomas Walker. His smile and quick wave brought a smile to her lips. "Hello Thomas." "Evening Sarah Bradley. Are you ready?" Tommy smiled and squinted up towards the light flooding out of Sarah's bedroom. She glanced back behind her and nodded. "Be down in a minute." She pulled the window shut and grabbed her jacket off the back of her door. Sneaking through the hall, she passed her fathers room and stood for a moment to hear his steady snoring. Perfect. When she pushed the front door open, Thomas was just coming around to meet her. "My girl is a lovely sight to see." He smiled pulling her close against him. Sarah loved so many things about Tommy but she especially loved the way he smelt. Fresh cut grass, minty breath, and just a touch of the cheap cologne he wore when he remembered. He grasped her hair and exhaled against her neck. "Let's go." He whispered. When they got to their regular spot he took her hand and guided her through the long rows of grass until they reached a single tree among the acres of fields and flowers. "The silence is nice, isn't it?" Sarah said, breaking their own usual silence. Tommy simply nodded, his eyes closed. "I missed you." She added. He opened one eye and smiled at the corners of his mouth. He kissed her cheek softly as a tear fell from her eye and landed on his nose. "Nonsense." He said wiping the other stray tears away. "Don't do this." Sarah shrugged and pulled her knees to her chest. "I'm sorry. I just- it's just not fair Tommy." His forehead pressed to hers for a split second before he pulled her head down to rest on his shoulder. "Life ain't fair." "Everyone else gets to be happy. With whoever they want. Whenever they want. Wherever they want." Tommy nodded to let Sarah know she was understood. He was a man of few words, which went along just fine with Sarah's love to talk. "We're the happiest of all, and no one else can know. They shame us like we're doing something wrong. Trying to put distance between so we'll stop loving each other or something." Tommy looked up towards the stars in the clear sky as Sarah finished her thought. "No amount of distance could ever make me stop loving you Sarah." She smiled and wiped the drying tears from her cheeks. "It's just, it's-" "Not fair." Tommy finished. Sarah rested her head on Tommy's chest and closed her eyes, listening to the crickets song surrounding them. She could have fallen asleep right there but the thought in the back of her mind of her accidentally staying out all night and her father sending out a search team was keeping her awake. A part of her wanted to just ignore that thought and stay right there with Tommy all night. She wanted to forget the stupid rules and just be happy for once. She didn't want to lie about her love, she didn't want to fake a smile at the dinner table, she didn't want to be tired all day because the only time she got to see Tommy was late in the evening. But, she knew that was what she had to do to be with him. No matter how difficult it was, nothing would ever stop her from seeing Tommy. All these thoughts rushed through her mind until a jerking motion pulled her back to reality. Unsure of what happened she glanced up towards Tommy to see his fingers pinching his nose as he was turned to the side. He jerked forward once more, with a second completely silent sneeze. Sarah looked back toward the field as Tommy dropped his hand and gave a quiet sigh before sniffing a handful of times. "Bless you." Tommy rubbed his eyes before dropping them down to look at Sarah, who still rested on his chest. "Sorry, did I startle you?" Sarah shook her head as much as she could while laying against him. "We should get you home before there's a warrant out for my arrest." Sarah didn't find that as humorous as Tommy did. He slid out from beneath her and held a hand down. "Would you be so kind as to accompany me for a midnight walk?" Tommy always had a way of making Sarah feel better. He knew exactly what to say, and he understood everything she was saying. He always said he was lucky to have her, but he had no idea how lucky she felt to have him. Tommy grasped Sarah's hand as they wandered through the empty fields. He swung their arms the slightest bit as if to almost distract her as he bent to the side and hopped a step stifling a third sneeze for the night. Sarah turned her head towards him and observed his nose twitch and mouth hang open before he swallowed and seemed to recover fully. “Are you coming down with something?” He shook his head as a response but observed the disapproving look painted across Sarah’s face. “Don’t worry your pretty little mind about me.” As their walk came to an end and Sarah’s home came into view she stopped and sighed. His hand being tugged as he realized she had stopped walking. She starred at her house and was almost pouting. Tommy’s free hand came to her cheek and stayed there until her eyes shifted from her home to his face. ”One day you'll be able to escape from all that, and come see me whenever you'd like." "Stop playing Tommy. There's no truth behind that statement." His eyes closed for a moment as if he'd wished there could be. His hand reached around the back of her head and pulled her towards him. His lips pressed into her hair and stayed there for a too-short moment. "One day baby."
souhya Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Part 2“How was school?” The small talk killed Sarah. She hated these awkward repetitive conversations at dinner time. “Fine.” She finally answered. Her father nodded, stabbing his potatoes with his fork. She pushed the peas around her plate and starred at the clock. Tommy always came to her window around 10 or 11, only 5 and a half more hours until she was to see him again. Her father cleared his throat. She watched him observing her nearly full plate. “I’m not very hungry.” She said. This wasn’t unusual for her, and it wasn’t much of a lie either. Missing someone can make you physically ill she believed. “May I be excused?” She spoke quietly, not daring to look her father in the eye. “You may. Get your homework done and get to bed, you look tired.” She smiled slightly and pushed herself out from the table. Coming around and kissing his head. “Goodnight daddy.” Simon Bradley was a good dad. Not a hopeless romantic by any means, but an hard working father. He took good care of Sarah, and although he was not always present, his work gave her anything she could ever need. Aside from the one thing he would not allow. “You’re better than that.” He had once said to Sarah after coming home late from an adventure with Tommy. They allowed it when Sarah and Tommy were young, but as they grew up, and grew closer, it was put to and end. The families did not get along and refused to believe that Sarah and Tommy could be a good match for each other. However, that wouldn’t stop them. They found ways; meet ups in town, passing by in school, and for the past two years, their midnights in the fields had been the most time they got to spend together. Sarah dreamed of leaving this stupid town behind and going anywhere else with Tommy. They talked about hitch hiking as far as possible from Westbrook and Sarah might have done so if Tommy hadn’t kept her grounded. As much as he wanted to do these things, he knew no good would come from her running away, and he only wanted the best for Sarah. * 10 o’clock had come and gone, along with 11 and no rocks tapping the window, no fake bird calls, and no Thomas. As her clock struck to midnight, she closed her books and went into her washroom. Pulling her hair back into a long french braid she observed her pale face and dark eyes. She wondered what people would think about her and Tommy if they could see them together now. Sarah with her long straight hair, boring sun dresses and lack of makeup looked so innocent next to Tommy’s solid tanned torso and messy hair. Total opposites, but so in sync. She walked back to the window and looked into the darkness. “Where are you Thomas…” She whispered to herself. She flipped off the lights and crawled into bed. There were some nights Tommy didn’t show up. Sometimes it would be a few days before she would see her. But tonight felt different. She was uneasy as she tried to sleep. Tossing and turning all night. The final time she looked at her clock, the hands showed 4:37. Before she knew it, a knock on the door was telling her 6:30 had come and it was time for another day at school. Tommy and Sarah could not socialize at school as many of Sarah’s fathers “friends” were staff in the school board. They exchanged smiles and knew each others every move to get as many opportunities to sneak a glance at the other as possible, but that was the extent of it. The school day played through and Sarah had yet to see Thomas Walker. She tried not to show any worry on her face in fear of questions from her peers but she began to wonder where Tommy could be. It was nothing new for him to skip a day or two, or three, but something about his absence last night, and in school made her stomach turn. Sarah sat in her room after dinner with her face down in the pillow. She could not think about homework right now and reached for a book instead. Before she knew it, 3 hours had come and gone and it was nearly to the time that Thomas would appear at her window. She ran into the hall and tip toed to her fathers door. His obnoxious snore gave her the okay as usual and she glided down the stairs and slipped out the front door. If Thomas was coming, she would meet him out front. She waited for what must have been an hour but as the September night air developed a chill to it, she pushed her body up off the front step and snuck back inside. She was only in her room for about 5 minutes, and had just began to get ready for bed when a familiar disturbance stopped her breath and made her heart skip a beat. A second and third stone tapped against the glass before she ran to the window and pushed it open. “Be right down.” She called before giving Tommy any chance to speak and shutting the window. She pushed the door open quietly and shut it behind her as quick as she could in excitement to see Tommy. Turning to find him right behind her, she squealed slightly. His hand came up to cover Sarah’s mouth as he laughed. “Sorry.” She smiled against his hand before he dropped it and took her face in both hands, pressing his cold lips to hers. Sarah’s arms wrapped around his stomach and his fingers pushed into her hair. The kiss lasted long than expected, as he kissed from her lips, to her cheek and down her neck. Pulling away, he dropped his hands and stumbled back off the porch turning his back to her and pressing his fist to his mouth, coughing a few times before smiling and nodding his head towards the fields. “We can’t stay here.” Knowing he was right, Sarah didn’t question the coughing and jumped off the steps to run and grab his hand. They walked through the fields as the wind whistled and blew her hair every which way, sending a quick shiver through her small body. Although she was not necessarily cold, the wind was not exactly keeping them warm. Tommy dropped her hand and shrugged his old jacket off, putting it over her back and then wrapping an arm around her shoulders. “I’m fine Tommy.” She said wiggling to get out of his hold. “Fall’s settling in. Keep the jacket on.” There was no arguing with Thomas Walker after he had his mind made up about something. And there was absolutely no budging on his care taking for Sarah. As they approached the tree, Sarah sat with her back against it, her legs pulled up to her chest. Thomas sat the same way, but facing Sarah, their toes touching. She watched his bare stomach rise and fall with each breath. “Tommy,” she began. He crossed his arms over his knees and nodded. The look in her eyes told him that the conversation from last night was not ending. “Do you actually think that one day we can just be together. Always?” He turned and looked over at the moon in the sky and shrugged. “Why not.” This gave Sarah too much hope. Why not was right, why couldn’t they just leave and start a new life. She didn’t want to be a dentist any more than he wanted to be a farmer and be stuck in a barn all his life. “Hehh- ckeecshhh!” The thought dropped from Sarah’s mind as she snapped back to the present time and watched as Tommy sat eyes closed, his breath hitching as he fought to either stop the pending sneeze, or try and get it over with. “HAHhchh’kshhoo! His forehead dropped against his still crossed arms as he sneezed a second time towards his knees, before lifting his head and rubbing the bridge of his nose with his knuckles. He gave Sarah a small smile, trying to get the concerned look off her face. “Bless you.” “Thanks.” His cheeks turned the softest shade of pink, which was when Sarah noticed that his nose and cheeks were now a matching colour set. She took this time to observe him more in depth. His eyes were darker than usual underneath, and his lips were parted the slightest bit, as if he was needing to breathe through his mouth. Sarah sat up off the tree and shrugged out of Tommy’s jacket. “Sarah don’t be unreasonable. I’m fine. Just a sneeze.” “Two sneezes.” Sarah Corrected. Tommy rolled his eyes. “You’re right.” He pulled a handful of grass from the ground and tossed it to the side. “Grass Allergy.” “Thomas Walker, for as long as I have known you, you’ve never once had—“ Sarah was stopped as Thomas had dropped his head towards his knees once more, a fist to his face letting a series of raspy coughs out. His breathing was shaking as the fit ended, but he recovered quickly and looked back at Sarah as if it had never happened. “Your lungs sounds wheezy.” He pulled away as her hand came up, knowing what was coming but as she dropped her hand back down and leaned forward, pressing her lips against his forehead, and then his cheek, he did not try and escape. “You’re not warm.” He smiled. “Sarah, I may be getting a small chill. No need to call in a doctor.” He looked to the side and exhaled in relief. How could he ever be warm? He was freezing sitting out there. Sarah turned around and pulled Tommy’s arms apart, making it clear she wanted to lay right with him. The wind howled in the fields surrounding them and Sarah shivered once more in his grasp. She rested her head against his chest, her arms around him. He was comfortable at first, but as a itch grew in his sinuses he began to panic seeing the half asleep girl sprawled out across him. Thomas balanced the two of them with one arm and raised the other, burying his face into his elbow, not knowing where else to sneeze in attempts to not sneeze on Sarah. “Heeh- ehchhknxgt! Uhh’cheekshh!” Failing to sneeze quietly, Sarah jumped with each sneeze, looking tired and confused. “I’m sorry.” Tommy said his face still hidden in his arm. “Sorry.” He repeated as she rubbed her eyes. “It’s okay, bless you Thomas.” He dropped his arm and kissed her head. Smiling at how sweet she looked. “Blessed by an absolute angel. How did I get so lucky?” Sarah smacked his arm and stood up off the ground. He mimicked her actions and followed quickly after her as she began to walk away. “You don’t need to take me home. Go get some rest sweetheart.” He just smiled at her and continued to walk, knowing she wouldn’t actually believe he would listen to that and let her walk home alone. As they reached the front door Sarah turned and wrapped her arms around Tommy’s neck. “Please come back tomorrow.” She said, thinking about how awful her stomach felt the night he had been gone. “Of course.” He smiled for a moment before his facial expressions turned to discomfort and he threw both hands of this nose. “Ashh’chhhoo!” He left his hands there for a moment sniffling before glancing up at the house watching for any lights to turn on. “Get home Thomas Walker. I love you.” Sarah kissed his cheek softly before slipping inside her house and running up the stairs, hearing the wonderful sound of snoring as she passed her fathers room. She ran to her window and watched as Tommy walked back off into the fields. He turned and smiled, as she blew a kiss to him. “Goodnight Thomas.”

Melody Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Love this so much! Great characterization and awesome writing
souhya Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 The brightness in Tommy's eyes had disappeared. He was physically there, but not at all present. His smile showed he was happy to see her, but the pink tinge to his nose and eyes showed it had been a long day. "Thomas Walker what are you doing out of bed, you look a mess." Sarah put a hand to Tommy's face but was pleasantly surprised by the lack of heat. He jerked away. "Hehh... acshhh!" The desperate inhale after he vicious sneeze told Sarah it was more than 'a slight chill'. Tommy pulled his face back up from the collar of his dirty sweatshirt. "Pardon me, sorry." Congestion was slowly creeping into his voice, leaving him sounding wore out and uncomfortable. "I'm sorry, again, excu- Hehhnngxt!" Pinching his nose at the last second, Tommy winced with the force of the sneeze. "Oh dear, you poor thing." Tommy shrugged and pulled a handkerchief from his back pocket, simply spotting his nose as to not be impolite, not that Sarah could have cared. Sarah ran her fingers through his extra tousled hair. "Tommy what are you doing here? You’re miserable." He shook his head, a pain bearing expression on his face as he swallowed. "I'll hear no such thing. You wanted me here, so here I am." This was true, Sarah had pleaded for him to return. She never would having knowing he had gotten worse. "Use your best judgment." She smirked tapping on his nose. He closed his eyes instantly and lifted his handkerchief in both hands to his nose. They stood in silence, waiting. He opened his eyes and gave a few testing sniffs. "False alarm." He stated, stuffing the fabric back into his pocket. At the right angle the moonlight lit up his golden brown hair and Sarah couldn't resist remembering why she fell in love with Thomas Walker. Sarah reached out for him, pulling him by his sweatshirt closer until their lips touched for not a second before Tommy pulled away. "There is nothing I enjoy more than kissing the beautiful Sarah Bradley, but I couldn't dare get you sick." She leaned back in and began to kiss his neck. "Your father would have my head." Tommy added squirming beneath her grasp. "He'd never know.” She whispered. "I would know." She saw the sincerity in his eyes and took her hands off him. "Fine." She tapped her palms against his chest, causing a series of coughs to rattle out, which h quickly caught in his two hands. ”You better go, being out in this damp weather will do that cold no good." He rolled his eyes and kissed two of is fingers, pressing them against her cheek. Before kissing them once more and pressing his fingers into her hand, and wrapping her delicate fingers around his own. "Hold onto that." She pressed her hand against her heart. "I always will." "Goodnight my beautiful Sarah." Her name came out as a half cough. "Until tomorrow." * Sarah dreamt of Thomas that night. July 12th 1957 "HEY!" A young Sarah screamed at the small figure climbing up her tree. "GET OFF OF THERE." The boy stopped for only a moment before laughing and continuing to climb. "You get down right now or I'll go get my daddy." She cried. The boy hung from a branch before dropping to the ground. "Good day." He said from beneath the messy blonde hair that fell over his eyes. Sarah crossed her arms over her chest and pouted for a moment. "What were you saying?" As he spoke he pushed his hair away from his eyes. Sarah took one look and felt as if she was swimming through a turquoise sea. "Uh..... Um... I said. Um-" The boy began to laugh. "It's um, that's my tree." The boy looked at the tree and back to her. "No one owns the trees. What makes this one yours?" "My mother planted it when she was a little girl." The boy nodded and tapped his hand to the tree a few times. "So your mother owned the seed? Guess that means she owns the tree." Sarah nodded, still mesmerized by this boys captivating eyes. In her 7 long years, she had never met anyone with eyes like that. "That's- That's what I said." "My names Thomas." The boy extended a dirty hand to her. She reluctantly returned the favour, melting against the warmth of the mystery boys skin. "I'm Sarah." A smile spread across Thomas's face before he turned back and looked up towards the tree. "Are we friends now?" He asked. Sarah shrugged her shoulders. "You could let a friend climb your tree." She shrugged again. "I'll make you a deal." Thomas began blinking his beautiful lashes. "You let me climb your tree, and I will keep it safe, as long as I live." Sarah finally nodded. "Okay." He began to climb and she wasn't sure what to do. She stood for a moment until he had himself perched on a branch. "Are you coming up?" "I've never climbed a tree.." She began. "It's not lady-like." Thomas glanced around the entirely empty field. "I won't tell." His devilish smile poked at something inside her. He began to climb down and reached both hands out for her. She grasped onto his palms and skidded her feet up the tree until she had reached him. She took a seat next to Thomas, sitting as far as the branch would allow, still leaving them side by side. Sarah jumped as a hand fell on top of hers. She looked down at Thomas's fingers over hers and then looked up to see him looking off at the sunset. She didn’t know where this boy had come from, or why she was so drawn to him, but the butterflies in her stomach told her to speak. "We can be friends.”
Artemis Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Ok it's offical I'm in love with these two please update ASAP I don't know how long I can wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
souhya Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying it. Feedback is very helpful Unfortunately my parents basement has flooded awful, but fortunately they are staying with us a couple days while the repairs are done, and helping with the boys, giving me some much appreciated mommy time. Part 4November 23rd 1959 The wind blew through Sarah's hair as she held the pages of her newest book steady. A shiver running through her body she wondered if coming out to the tree to read was the best idea. A snapping branch sent a chill down her spine before she looked up to see a tanned pair of bare feet and too-long blue jeans above her head. "Thomas Walker!" She screeched. "You scared the life out of me!" He smiled and tossed one of the stray leaves the fall wind had missed down towards her. "You frighten too easily." She rolled her eyes and looked back to her book. The cold wind hitting her like a bus. She tried to stop the shivers but they continued to storm through her body. "Are you cold or somethin' down there?" Sarah shook her head. "Okay." He climbed higher up the tree and watched Sarah from his birds eye view. She ran her hands along her arms, trying to keep them from freezing off. Tommy watched her from the tree, he looked across the field at the half dead grass blowing in the wind and rolled his eyes at the shivering girl. For the first time, but definitely not the last he swung down out of the tree and landed by her side. Taking the jacket off his back and placing it over her shoulders. "Thanks Tommy." She smiled and pushed her arms through, inhaling his scent. "Don't mention it." His eyes looked almost clear in the right sunlight, this was one of those times. "It's cold, I will walk you home." He held a hand out to her and pulled her up. "I love you Tommy." After speaking her cheeks turned a deep shade of red. Both with eyes wide, they continued to hold hands. Tommy leaned towards her slowly and she shut her eyes. Only peeking at the last moment. His lips pressed against hers for no more than 2 seconds and they both squinted, their puckered lips turning to smiles. "Did I do it right?" Sarah shrugged. "Um yeah, it was good. How was it for you?" Sarah tilted her head unsure of what to say. "Fine... It wasn't bad, I mean." Thomas smiled. "Cool." They kept their fingers intertwined and Tommy began to guide her through the field. They swung hands in silence, Tommy periodically waiting to get the courage to speak. Sarah glanced over, making him aware that she knew he wanted to speak. His cheeks flushed the lightest shade of pink. He smiled before giving her the 'if you ever tell anyone what I'm about to say, I'll slug you' look. "I love you too Sarah.” *Sarah's thought slowly vanished as a voice pulled her from the happy memory. She opened her eyes to look into the field, the same field she had just been day dreaming of. She exhaled slowly twirled her hair around her fingers.“What’s on your mind?” Thomas called as his feet swung from a branch above Sarah’s head. She plucked blades of grass one by one as she thought about her answer. “You.” Thomas’s silence following her response drew her attention to him for a split second before she observed his expression and ducked her head beneath her arms. “Heechstieww!” Sarah giggled. “Did I just get sneezed on?” She looked up to see Tommy running his knuckles across the tip of his nose. Shrugging he laughed, “I can’t be certain. My eyes were closed.” He dropped his hand, revealing a smile. “Such a gentleman.” Sarah rolled her eyes pushing herself up from the ground. “I better go.” “Hey I’m sorry I didn’t mean to- eh wait up- hehh..” His mouth hung open, an annoyed look on his face. She crossed her arms over her chest, admiring how sweet he looked in the hands of another desperate cold sneeze. Realizing he may be caught up for god knows how long, she continued walking, leaving the congested boy behind. “Haa-chishww! HEH’ahhcshishh!” “Bless you!” “Hey Sarah,” He called after her, jumping down from the low branch. “I covered my mouth that time.” She looked back over her shoulder, one eyebrow raised. “Well congratulations.” Of course she was not actually upset about the sneezing, she simply used it as a head start to escape from the depths of their tree. The never ending fields felt like they could hold her there forever. And as long as she stayed, Thomas stayed. Thomas Walker was not all perfect, and there were many things Sarah could beat him at, but running away was not one. He was back at her side in no time at all. “Don’t go.” “It has to be nearly dinner time. My father thinks I’m studying over at Mary’s house.” His hand took hers, making her fingers feel small and weak against his rough knuckles. “I’ll come see you tonight then.” Sarah shook her head, trying to think of a lie so he could spend the night resting. “My father has plans for us. He said I’ve been distant lately and we need to ‘bond’. I don’t want him getting suspicious so I can’t skip out.” He nodded and cleared his throat before coughing towards the ground. The two walked in silence, Thomas coughing periodically. Her house, which by the way, was much to big for two people, began to come into sight and slowed her steps until they had stopped. “Shouldn’t get too close to the house in the daylight.” She said watching Thomas carefully as he coughed against his fist. He looked at her from the corner of his eye and nodded before continuing into a series of chest rattling gasps for air. He bent over with the force of the fit, one fist glued against his mouth, the other hand being used to press against his knee and keep himself up. “Tommy, are you okay?” He nodded slowly as the fit subsided, his eyes red and watery. She starred deeply, her heart feeling like it was in her stomach. “Something in my throat.” He croaked through a nearly non existent voice before turning and coughing loudly into the collar of his shirt. “I should get going too.” He pushed his hands into his pockets and starred at the ground, clear disappointment in his bright eyes. Sarah didn’t want him leaving sick and upset. “Come see me tomorrow night.” She also knew this would stop him from feeling the need to show up at her house tonight anyway. “Promise?” She added, pressing her lips to his. He began to pull away, but relaxed against her touch and brought both hands around her waist. “Promise.” He breathed as their lips detached for a moment. She pushed her fingers through his hair and jumped up close to his chest, his arms barely catching her in time. He spun her slowly until losing his balance and the pair crashed to the ground. They finished the kiss before breaking into laughter. Sarah pulled pieces of grass from her hair and kissed Tommy’s cheek once more. “I love you.” They spoke in unison. Laughing again at one another. Thomas settled as the laughter turned to painful coughs and pushed himself up, pulling Sarah with him. “Get yourself home.” She demanded, grabbing his cheeks and kissing his forehead forcefully. She took off towards her house leaving him standing alone in the field. “24 hours in bed. Doctors orders.” She yelled blowing a kiss. Thomas looked up at the sun shining down. “Thank you.” He said, looking from the heavens back down to his girl dancing through the tall grass. She waved and disappeared into through her back door.
Artemis Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 very cute. i love their interactions I'm sorry about the basement and I hope nothing got damaged I hope will update, and maybe have Thomas stifling and pretending he's not sick but then he accedentally gets Sarah sick and gets on to her for doing the same exact thing If you are taking suggestions but I love the story
souhya Posted August 9, 2015 Author Posted August 9, 2015 Thank you for the suggestions! With this new found free time, I actually had this part written before reading that, then just haven’t had time to edit and post! But don’t worry, Thomas won’t be the only sick one for long….——————— Part 5Rubbing her tired eyes in the morning, Sarah could not face the day at school without knowing where Thomas had gone. Although it was only three days since they last spoke, she was getting impatient and worried. He had promised to come see her two nights prior and his absence was unexplained. She got dressed in a hurry and rushed to school. She looked around the school yard for someone she could ask about Thomas. Perfect. "Garrett!" Garrett Nickson was as close as a neighbour as possible in Westbrook. Although everyone really had their own land, Thomas's home was visible from the Nickson's farm. Garrett plucked the straw from his mouth and tossed it to the ground, pushing his hands inside his worn out jean pockets. "What do I owe this pleasure?" Sarah smiled as sweet as possible. "I was just wondering if you had seen Thomas around lately?" Garrett gave her a confused glance. "Now why would a pretty girl like you be concerning herself with farm scum like Thomas Walker?" She first wondered why he willingly just labelled their lifestyle as "farm scum", but quickly lost that thought after realizing that he truly wouldn't know why she was asking. Sarah remembered then, that for everyone else, Thomas and her had been good as strangers the past 5 years. She rolled her eyes. "Have you seen him or not?" "Does daddy want a garden?" His teasing caused her nails to dig into her palms. "Answer the damn question Garrett!" She growled. "No I haven't." He looked around them at the familiar faces passing by. "Ambulance was round his place two days ago. Middle of the night. I assume his father had been hurt out working late in the barn." He had no idea. "Th-thanks Garrett." Sarah's legs felt like cooked pasta, her head was spinning and her heart beating twice its regular speed. She walked straight past the school and back towards her home. When she reached her front door, she threw her books inside and walked straight out through the back door. She carried on through the fields. Passing the spot her and Thomas had fallen down kissing just days before. Passing their tree. Passing all the abandoned flower patches that Thomas would pick her bouquets from.Until, she reached the backside of the Walker farm. She stood and starred. Unsure of whether to continue, or turn around and go back home. She wasn't sure what pulled her, but something caused her feet to start up again and bring her to their front door. Just as effortlessly, she began to knock. After no answer, she peeked into the kitchen window quickly and knocked again. "Coming, coming!" A long lost voice called. The voice matched the face perfectly. Millicent Walker was a beautiful woman. Almost intimidating how put together she could look, even when she was a mess. The two starred for a moment before Sarah opened her mouth. "Hi. I- um.. I'm-" "Sarah." She nodded to confirm. The silence returned. "What are you doing here?" Sarah hadn't thought about what she was going to say. She twirled her long hair between her fingers and opened her mouth, but no words came out. "I- I heard Thomas was sick. I just wanted to make sure he was alright. I guess." Why would she have said that. His mother would surely know now about their secret meetings, Thomas would be in so much trouble and it would all be--- “You wondered why he stopped coming to meet you?" The smile faded from Sarah's face and seemed to appear on Mrs. Walkers. "How did you…." The door opened wider. "Why don't you come in." Mrs. Walker poured some tea and sat across from me at a small kitchen table, just big enough for 3. She wondered where they all ate before Tommy’s older brother moved away. Her mind stopped trying to distract her as she met his mothers eyes again. “Tommy told you?” She blurted out, wishing she had not spoke at all. His mother smiled as she observed Sarah’s horrified face. “No.” She took a sip of the hot tea. “Not in so many words.” Sarah took a sip of tea as well, the sweet scent and mildly spiced taste bringing back memories of when her and Thomas were young and Mrs. Walker would have tea ready for when they came home soaked from the rain. “He didn’t have to tell me.” Sarah starred blankly. “Don’t ever tell him, we wouldn’t want to ruin his self-esteem, but he’s not as sneaky in the middle of the night as he thinks.” The two giggled. Sarah especially at the thought. Her discomfort slowly drifted away and it felt like she was 9 years old again, gossiping about Tommy with his mother. “That boys eyes give it all away anytime your families name is mentioned. He thinks of you the same way he always has.” Sarah’s cheeks blushed pink quickly before a muffled series of coughs could be heard from the room above. She set her tea down and glanced towards the stairs. “He’s not well..” She whispered barely loud enough for anyone to hear. “Is he?” Mrs. Walker shook her head. “The infection is in his chest. Thank god it’s not pneumonia.” Sarah cradled her head in her hands, fighting back the tears in front of his mother. “He’s going to be fine dear.” A hand fell upon her shoulder. “Doctor said he just needs some rest. His fever has already come and gone.” The words were hopeful, but the facial expression said otherwise. “I would invite you to go see him, but he may never rest after seeing you here.” Sarah took her final sip of tea, realizing how fast she had drank in the deep conversation. “You’ve done enough, thank you. I better go. Let him rest, and let you, well.” She stopped there, not sure what she had so rudely interrupted. His mother smiled as Sarah walked out the front door. “Please come back anytime Dear. You’re always welcome here.” Sarah nodded and looked out at the tree in the distance. “Good-bye.” She walked slowly through the fields going over all the possibilities in her mind of how her father would react if she were to tell him about her and Thomas. She wished he could just live with his like the Walkers did. It wouldn’t change his life anyway. Maybe he did know? There’s no way. He’d never just quietly allow it. She reached the tree and looked up to the branch Thomas always sat on. She didn’t understand how someone could mean so much to her. Thomas was just always there. He never let her down. If she expected him to be there and hold her hand, he was. If she was upset, his kind shoulder or hard words were there for her. When she needed someone to bring her back down to earth, or listen to her dreams, Thomas was the one she went to. She simply couldn’t imagine him not being around, until now, as she stood alone at their tree. Sarah ran her fingers over the jagged slices in the tree bark. "Oh Thomas." * May 16 1961 The perfect two lay on top of a blanket in the tall grass and looked up towards the clouds. "Do you see a bear?" "I see a beautiful girl." Even for 12 years old, Tommy was very good with his words. Sarah turned her head to see Tommy propped up with one elbow, looking down towards her. She giggles and looked back up towards the sky. "Do you like me Sarah?" She nodded. "Me too." "Thanks." She said unsure of what was happening. "So that settles is then." Thomas got up from the blanket and ran towards their tree. "What are you doing?" Sarah called after him. Stopping in her tracks as he pulled a rusty knife from his pocket. "Thomas Walker you're insane!" Despite her reaction, Sarah was not scared, nor was she surprised. "Relax Sarah." He dug the knife into the tree bark and began to carve. 'T.W + S.B May 16 1961' Sarah wrapped her arms around Thomas. "What's it mean?" She asked after letting him go. "It means we’ll always be together." * "We'll always be together." She repeated pressing her head against the tree. "You promised Thomas. Dammit you promised me!” Slamming her fist against the tree she sucked in her breath, holding it there in pain, unable to exhale. She pulled her wrist against her chest and began sinking towards the ground, her knees giving out as the pain in her wrist radiated with heat. Barely able to breathe, something froze all the pain she felt. “Sarah?”

souhya Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 Part 6 The tears streamed down her face as she begin to sink towards the ground. “We will be.” She jumped again at the familiar voice behind her. “Tommy?” She asked before falling to the ground. He ran and placed his hands under are arms. “Hey, relax. I’m here.” He placed her down gently and sat by her side. “Babe, I’m right here.” She opened her mouth to speak but nothing more than a weak croaking from her throat could barely be heard. "Hey babe you're fine, I'm right here." "W-why are you, um, here and not resting in bed?" He smiled for a second before bringing a fist to his mouth to muffle a series of dry coughs. "Thomas, you shouldn't be here." She wondered if he knew she had been at his home just 15 minutes earlier. "How did it feel?" She met his eyes, hoping for some clarification on this question. They provided that for her. "Nice." She began, looking towards her feet. "Being able to talk about us... It was just, nice." He nodded to agree before quickly turning away. "Hehh'Issshhhh! Haaeisshhew!" Even through his sweatshirt she could see his muscles tense with each sneeze before a chilled shudder would rifle through his body. "Ugh. Sorry." He turned back to face her, two fingers pinched at the bridge of his nose. "My poor baby. Again, you shouldn't be here." He shrugged once and dropped his hand to his side. Sniffing quickly, somehow making himself seem even cuter than before. Sarah wondered how he did it. "Worst of it is over. The past two days were unbearable. But now I'm back to just feeling like my stupid body is just working it's way through a stupid cold." She had to smile at his use of the word 'stupid' as he acted as if the virus was picking a personal fight with him. "Well, that stupid cold still needs rest, unless you'd like to keep it for another week or two." He shook his head in response, looking back towards the direction of his home. "I could hear your voice through the floorboards. Thanks for coming. It meant a lot." All tones had dropped from his voice, sincerity and congestion was all that could be detected in that sentence. "I'm sure it wasn't easy." She smiled and leaned in on the tips of her toes to kiss his forehead. "Nothing with us is easy." She admitted. "I'm not running scared anymore." Although she knew he should stop there to stop any further discussions from surfacing, her mind thought otherwise. Their eyes met. "Thomas. We aren't doing anything wrong. We're happy. You treat me like an absolute queen. Better than any rich idiot that my father would pick for me would. I trust you with my life, and I want everyone to know how incredibly, undeniably in love with you I am." Silence. They both stood toe to toe, breathing deep against each others skin. Sarah's hand reached up to cup the tall boys cheek. "Thomas?" She needed a response. Using zero words, she was told everything she needed to hear. He put a hand gently over hers on his face, and wrapped his other free arm quickly found her waist, kissing her lips softly at first, and working into a deeper yet delicate kiss. Both his hands moved to hold her face, and her one hand pushed through his hair. He gasped for air as their lips broke, causing Sarah to jump, and a smile to cross his face at her reaction. She pressed her lips against the innocent smile before kissing across his cheek, down his neck and along his collarbone. He did not pull away, no coughs or sneezes ruined the moment, and he was not burning to the touch, pulling her attention away. They had this moment just for them. They got to finish this moment on their own terms. And that's how things were to be from now on. On their own terms. "No one should have control, or a say in our relationship, but us." Sarah spoke against his neck. "Mhm. Yeah. Yep." He was out of breath. Wanting to be reassured this wasn't a crazy thought his fingers dancing along her back, and his breath down we neck told her this was what he wanted. Thomas's arms wrapped around her body, squeezing her until she was almost uncomfortable, but never wanting to be let go of. When he finally loosened his grip on her, he reached our taking hold of her delicate fingers, only to have her pull away. She held her sore wrist with her opposite hand and winced in pain. "What's wrong?" He looked in her eyes first. Then to her arm. "What happened?" She shrugged and looked towards the tree. "Did someone hurt you?" She instantly shook her head. "I just, I maybe hit the tree kind of hard, and I don't know I think maybe--" he smiled and gently took ahold of her injured arm, his hand under he elbow and caressing her fingers. "Make a fist, then relax it." She did so with a clear as day painful expression across her face. "Wiggle your wrist as much as you can." She looked up at him, tears welling in her dark eyes. "Please just try." She nodded once before beginning to rotate her hand around very slowly, biting her bottom lip hard. "Okay, just stiff I think. Maybe sprained. Ice it when you get home." She nodded and pulled her arm back against her small body. "Get home and take care of that." "What do I tell my father?" She asked turning around to see Thomas still in the same spot. "The truth." She rolled her eyes. He laughed. "Or that you fell and caught yourself wrong on your wrist." He suggested with a shrug. A smile crossed her face. Thomas always knew how to handle any situation. "Hiitscchheww! Hah'ittshhpewww!" "Ble-" He shook his head with the collar of his shirt still pulled up between his eyes. Exposing his hard stomach, that tensed with each wet sneeze. "Ehhtchoo! Hee.. *sniff* hehh'tppshhh!" He held his shirt in place for a second or two longer, one eye open, the other squinting shut as if he was concentrating hard. "Excuse me." He moaned, now dropping his collar and pushing the wrinkles from his shirt. Sarah giggled. Jesus was he ever precious. Something about a boy in the helpless grips of a sneezing fit was just too adorable beyond words. "You need to get home, get some tea, and get to sleep." Sarah reminded once again. He nodded this time, the bloodshot eyes and pink tinged nose revealing that he was exhausted more then he'd ever say, and in need of some rest. "I'll just walk you home and then--" "Go home Thomas." He shook his head and looked towards her house. It seemed closer in the daylight he would admit. "It's the middle of the day. I'll be fine. Stay here and watch me go if you like. But it's time for me to take care of you, and make it clear, I want you headed straight to bed, a cup of tea in hand, and plenty of rest." "I love you." He called as loud as his voice would allow as the girl danced through the fields as usual. She turned and waved her hand towards the direction of his house. "Home, tea, bed!" She called back before stopping and smiling. "And I love you too." Thomas kind of liked this bossy side of Sarah. She always was the one to control their friendship when they were younger, but that side of her had recently disappeared as they grew. He watched as she got closer and closer to her home. Once she reached the back door, he turned and headed back towards his own home. The wind comforting him as he went along.
souhya Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 Part 7 "I love getting to see every detail of your beauty in the daylight hours." Thomas spoke from his branch on the tree, Sarah smiling below him. "My dads being honoured at a banquet at our house later. So I have to be home tonight." That answered Thomas's upcoming question on why she insisted meeting precisely after school. He nodded and flipped backwards over the branch, landing feet first by Sarah's side. He was crazy. "Will you come?" The sudden urge to sneeze and fuzziness in his head made him nearly positive he had heard her incorrectly. "Ahh- hiitchhpshhh! Huushhrooo!" Turning quickly away from Sarah, he sneezed a powerful double towards the ground, rolling his eyes at the giggles behind his back once he recovered. "Are you okay?" She asked, the memory sneaking back into her head from days before when he was in bed, barely able to move. "Swell. Thank you." He sniffed and pulled his elbow to his face, sure there was another coming. "Ehhh... heh" he dropped his arm and sniffed furiously for a moment. Opening his mouth to speak before twisting around on his heels. "HEHTICHEW!" Stumbling against the tree he caught himself from falling with the force of the final sneeze. "Bless you." Sarah said, not bothering to look up from her book. He rubbed his eyes and prayed this cold would be over with in the next few days. "Yeah, thanks." "So will you?" He hadn't heard her wrong. "Pardon me?" "Will you come? To the party?” She regretted asking as she observed his tired eyes. That is, until his smile appeared for a second reminding her he said he was feeling much better. Just as quickly as the smile had shown up, it disappeared. “Please." He pushed his hands into his pockets and avoided eye contact. "Please Tommy. It would mean so much to me." She hopped to her feet, intertwining their fingers together. Try he might, but her hands against his palms, and her big dark eyes on his, told him he could not say no. "Fine. Fine. Fine." He struggled to say as her lips attacked his neck. She ran a hand across his stomach and looked him over. "The party starts at 5, I'll be able to sneak out shortly without him noticing by 6. So meet me by the kitchen door then." "Are you sure this is a good idea?" Thomas scratched the back of his neck, observing the devilish grin on across Sarah’s face. "I don't care." She said before kissing his cheek and walking towards her family home. "Wash up, 6 o'clock." Thomas nodded and laughed as she skipped through the grass. He looked back to the farm and began to drag his feet through the fields. Thomas entered through the back door and greeted his mother as she pulled her soapy hands from the sink. "Hi dear. Your back in a hurry." She said over her shoulder. "Uh, yeah. Sarah's dad is having some stupid party tonight. She wants me to go. But I don't know." His mother dropped a dish to the ground, it shattering against the old wood. "Oh my, sorry dear!" "Don't move ma, I will clean it up. Just.. careful.” "Shouldn't you go get cleaned up for the party?" Thomas shook his head. "I think it would be best if I didn't show." "Sarah would be so disappointed." He knew this. But was disappointment worse than how irrationally her after could react? "She'll understand. I think she just feels bad that you were so welcoming. Reintroducing me to her father has never been an issue before." Mrs. Walker wiped her hands dry and came behind her son. "Thomas Andrew Walker, I have taught you better than to bail out on your commitments. Get your ass in gear and get ready to go." He laughed and set some shards of glass against the counter. His mother re-entered the kitchen, placed a hand on his shoulder and squeezed it tight. "Finish cleaning the glass first please, I had forgotten I need to run out quickly." Thomas finished cleaning up the broken plate, along with washing the leftover dishes before running upstairs to make himself presentable. He greased his hair back lightly and shuddered at his put together appearance. Well as put together as you can be in nothing but dirty jeans. After 10 minutes of searching his closet for something with no holes, no stains, no smell, and well fit, he collapsed on his bed in realization that those clothes did not exist in this house. After another 10 minutes of mixing and matching, he chose the least repulsive jeans and t-shirt and sighed in the mirror.A knock at the door began as he was in the midst of convincing himself it was an awful idea. "Thomas, have you found something to wear?" His mother peaked her head in the door. He shrugged and sat down on the bed, looking over his black shirt. "I'm going to embarrass her." His mother slipped through the door. A paper bag in her hand. "What's that?" He hoped he knew what it was. "Well, your father and I have been saving to get you a nice suit. I thought for graduation. But this will still fit. The more you get to wear it the better." She held herself together as she pulled a while dress shirt from the bag, followed by black dress pants and a black tie. Finally, she pulled a pair of new black shoes from the bottom of the bag and set them on the bed. "The jacket was slightly out of budget. But I thought this was a start." She smiled sweetly at her son, who retuned the smile before rising to his feet and wrapping his arms around her. He held her tight, cherishing that he had two amazing parents. "I can't thank you enough." Mrs. Walker looked towards the time and tapped a hand on her sons arm. "Well, get changed. You need to get going." "I have nearly an hour." He spoke slightly confused as his father appeared in the doorway. "Not if you're stopping to get her flowers. Which I'm sure you planned on doing." Thomas nodded as his father winked. "Proud of you kid." The parents exchanged proud glances at their son before exiting the room. Thomas rushed to put on his new dress clothes and smile at himself in the mirror. He couldn't help but wonder if this was what Sarah deserved all the time. Someone who showed up always looking put together, flowers in hand. After picking out the flowers he thought said 'I love you a lot, but I don't want to seem like a dork' he rushed to through town to her house and stood out of view near the kitchen door, waiting for Sarah to appear. After 5 sneezes, a series of sniffles and what felt like 20 minutes, a head popped out the door with a giant grin plastered across its face. "Tommy." She smiled, slipping out the door. "Sorry, couldn't get away until now." Thomas smiled and emerged from the darkness to meet her gaze. Her facial expression instantly faded from a smile to a shocked look. "Thomas.. You look. Wow." He felt his cheeks burn hot as he dropped his eyes towards the patio. "I mean, wow. You look so handsome." He smiled and finally took the time to admire her long blue dress. "You look beautiful. Not a surprise." She pushed her curled hair over her shoulder and smiled at the flowers Thomas held out to her. “You didn’t need to bring me flowers.” She smiled, taking them from his hands. He pressed his lips against hers, falling against the side of the house. She broke the kiss, exhaling against his skin. ”Well, we better get inside. Get this over with right?" She grabbed his hand and pulled him through the kitchen, barely in there long enough to finish the introductions to the kitchen staff. "James and Laura, this is Thomas. See you later." As they entered a room full of people, both their stomachs tensed up. There was no going back now. They had dreamt of this moment, wished for it, waited for it, for so long. And it was finally here. Taking a deep breath, she was so happy. He was.... well, he wasn't sure how he felt quiet yet. As they walked through the party, Sarah frowned at all the girls starring at Thomas’s unusually proper appearance. Thomas looked great. Hell he was smoking, but a part of her missed the rugged hair and relaxed clothing. She could never imagine herself with this kind of guy all the time. Hair perfectly brushed, shirt tucked in, gifts in place of kisses. "Hehhshieww!" He smiled as his hand came back down from his mouth to his pocket. “Excuse me.” "Bless you." She smiled back, looking him over once again. Yeah. She could definitely deal with this for tonight. As their grip on each other's hands tightened, it was clear they had both sighted the same thing. "Ready?" Sarah exhaled. Thomas nodded and adjusted his tie. "You sure you want to do this? We don't have to if you don't want to babe. Don't feel pressured just bec-" her finger pressed against his lips. “Let’s do this." They both inhaled. Gave each other a reassuring look. Exhaled. And began to walk. "Despite what happens. Nothing could change my love for you." Sarah spoke quietly as the two approached her father. Thomas pulled her hand to his lips and kissed it twice. “Now or never." * February 2nd 1964 "Drop it Thomas!" Sarah stormed through the soaked grass. "I never want to see your stupid boy face again!" Tommy ran behind Sarah, hardly able to see in the pouring rain. "Sarah can we talk about it somewhere else! You're going to catch pneumonia out here." She waved him off as she reached the tree. "Good. At least I won't have to see you." He rolled his eyes as she used that line for the 80th time in the last 17 minutes. As she abruptly stopped for a moment, Thomas waited at her back. "Sarah please, I'll take you home." She shook her head, not willing to look at him, knowing his eyes would win this argument. She stayed silent. “Fine. Whatever.” After a moment she turned thinking he had walked away, but instead he was sitting near her feet against the tree. "I'll stay here all damn day Sarah." She walked around and pushed her back against the opposite side of the tree. "This is what it's all about Sarah." He said smacking a hand against the tree. "What the hell are you talking about Tommy?" "This is the only tree among all these fields. Just like you're the only girl among all other humans for me. Don’t you think maybe that means something?” She stood her ground. Not speaking. “So I spoke to another girl.. Your father doesn't allow us to speak, I have to talk to someone during the day Sarah." Sarah stayed silent. Slowly realizing maybe she has slightly over reacted the slightest bit. "I'm not leaving until you forgive me." Hearing everything he was saying, she ran her hands over her eyes, wiping the mixture of tears and rain drops away. "I'm really cold, I'm sure you are too." She broke into a smile as she peeked around the side of the tree. Before she could protest, he was standing at her feet. "I'm sorry for upsetting you." She looked down towards her soaked shoes, and his bare toes. "Please forgive me." When she did not instantly reply, Thomas dropped to his knees. "Please please please, forgive me Sarah." She tried to stop a giggle but could not hold it in. "That's my girl." He rose back to his feet and signalled her to jump onto his back. She hesitated for a moment, but complied as she watched Tommy's teeth chatter. "I'm sorry." He shook some droplets from his hair and kissed her hands that rested around his neck. "You're a damn pain in my ass, Sarah Bradley." She kissed the top of his head and hugged tight against his back as they made their way through the flooded fields. “You’re the only person I ever want to love.” He struggled to speak as the rain pelted his face. “I want to love you right now, and tomorrow..” He put her down and turned to face her. “I want to love you next week, and two years from now..” She pressed her head against his chest as he continued to speak. “I want to love you everyday for the rest of my life. You, and only you.” “It’s so hard Tommy.” She spoke referring not to loving him, loving him was easy. Hiding was hard, pretending was hard, and seeing him pretend to be happy without her was hard. “We’ll make it work.” She held his shirt tight in her fists, getting as close to him as possible. “We have to make it work. We’ll start working on it harder.” Sarah was quiet. His hand came to cup her chin and turn her face up. Their amazingly different eyes meeting. “Okay?” She nodded, reassured by his words. “You ready?” He asked, holding a hand out to her, looking towards the sky as the rain slowed. She smiled, accepting his hand. “Now or never.”

souhya Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 “Sarah, good you’ve decided to bring a date. Nice to meet you young man, Marcus Bradley.” My father extended his hand out to Thomas. We both exchanged a glance, unsure of what to do here. “Thomas Walker.” He finally said. Silence. … Awkward silence. Sarah shot her father a look as his eyes shifted back and fourth between the two. She smiled sweetly before squeezing Thomas’s hand. “Thomas. Of course. Nice to see you again.” The handshake took place without her father ripping Thomas’s arm out of the socket, so he believed that went well. The trio stood quietly for another beat of awkwardness before Thomas open his mouth to speak. “Sir, your daughter-“ Sarah tapped their hands against his leg. “I’ve been seeing Thomas.” She blurted out. Mr. Bradley held his breath, looking the boy over. “We’ll discuss it later.” He smiled at Sarah and shot a glance back up to the farm boy. He walked away and left the two alone in the crowd, hand in hand. Thomas watched as her father walked away, not seeming consumed at all in what just happened. The nerve the two of them had to show up at her fathers honour party and announce their forbidden relationship was ridiculous. As he inhaled, he felt regret. Pause. Exhale, and he was happy with their decision. His mind was running a million miles an hour with all kinds of thoughts. Was he going to lock her away, or let her be free? Was he angry, or had he gotten over his little tantrum that happened years ago? Could this work out for them? How would— “Heeh`xxngt! His attention shifted as Sarah pinched her nose and pitched forward once, stopping both of them in their tracks before recovering instantly and exhaling a quick laugh. “Bless you.” He smiled as a grin crossed her face. “Just one?” He teased as they walked hand in hand through the crowd. “Guess so.” “Strange.” Thomas shrugged. For as long as he’d known Sarah, he’d never known her to be someone who sneezed just once very often. Despite the cause. Always quiet, always feminine, always in fits. Other than now apparently. Sarah’s father reappeared by the large staircase and greeted the two once again. “I’m sure you two are bored with all the old folk. No pressure to stick around.” Thomas nodded and shook the mans hand once again before exhaling in relief. Sarah was not sure whether this meant he didn't want anyone to see them together, or if he was actually being understanding and giving them the freedom to ditch the party. Unsure, she took advantage and pulled Tommy’s arm. ~ Sarah scratched at her nose, trying to ignore the growing tickle. She sat on the bed, watching Thomas pace in circles across the room. Both of them were unsure of how to take in her fathers reaction to their very obvious relationship and although Sarah felt it went well, she could tell Tommy was on edge. She looked at the flowers sitting next to the bed in a crystal vase that belonged to her mother. She loved the idea of flowers, but hated how quickly they died, no matter how well she cared for them. They almost seemed pointless. Running her fingers along the soft petals she brought one hand up to her nose as her breath forced itself inwards and her nose twitched. "Nxght!" She pinched her irritated nose between two fingers and bobbed forward once. "God bless you." Thomas continued to pace. His words seemed aware of the situation, but his eyes stayed focused on the floor. Sarah unplugged her nose just long enough to sniff back a lingering itch, but that only made it worse. "Echnxt! Ggnxt! Nxctt!" By the third sneeze, Thomas's attention had shifted from his own mind to his girlfriends current sneeze session. "Hettnxt! Ncxxt!" Tommy pulled his handkerchief from his back pocket and held it in front of Sarah's face. She took it quickly in her free hand and stopped pinching her nose with a death grip as the itch became less intense. "Heetsxhoo!" She let the final sneeze go, girly and elegant against her wrist before pushing the fabric to her now pink nose. Her eyes shooting a mean glare towards Thomas as he chuckled at her side. "Can't just sneeze once can you babe? Always an over achiever." "Shut up Tommy." She spoke behind the handkerchief that was pressed to her nose. "That's all of them then?" He smiled. "Yeah. I'm fine now." She held the fabric tight in her fist and dropped her hands into her lap. Although his mouth stayed with the slightest smirk across it, his bright eyes smiled. "Well, bless you." Sarah rolled her eyes before quickly bringing her fingers back to pinch the tip of her nose. "Hxnngt'choo! Nffgxt! Ncxnnt!" "Jesus. Bless you, bless you, bless you.." Thomas began to chant along in chorus with her sneezing. "Done?" She nodded. "Someone," he began, sitting by her legs on the bed, placing a hand on her knee. "Is getting a cold." She shook her head and sniffed back the congestion far back in her sinuses. "Allergies." She pulled the flowers back out from the vase and handed them to Thomas. "They are lovely, but no thank you." "I'm sorry." He sighed and rose from the bed. Sarah straightened up and watched as he looked out into the empty field. "I should probably go. And get rid of these." Sarah although not wanting to agree, nodded her head and began to pull the blanket from her lap. "Stay put, I'll see myself out." His lips pressed against her forehead, and though his recently cleared sinuses, he inhaled her scent for the first time in what felt like forever. As he took his lips from her head she bobbed forward into his chest once, twice, three times. He smiled and pressed his forehead against her hair. "Sorry...." She giggled as her cheeks burned red beneath her hands. "No it's alright. Comfort, protection, love, human tissue. That's what I'm here for right?" His devilish grin spread across his lips before he kissed her cheek quickly once more and made his way to the door. "Goodnight sweetheart. I love you." "I love you." Tommy snuck through the door as she threw the blanket off her lap and looked out the window, waiting to see him begin to walk through the field. As he came into sight he turned and waved, Sarah blew a kiss and watched as he sprinted through the grass. Rubbing her knuckles against her nose as she watched him disappear into the dark field, she fought back yet another impending sneeze. Closing her window quickly she pulled the blinds shut and gave in to the burning sensation. "Hepptschoo! Ugh."
