I saw the presentation by Bethesda the company that makes the Fallout series of games. they're coming out soon with Fallout 4 it's newest version. I like what they're saying you can do in it. specificly the idea of building settlements an building your own custom power armor. but am disturbed by the fact that the players character goes into the "vault" shelter as a member of a family and is the only surviving person from the vault. in other words the players character loses their whole family. which seem like a horrible price to pay... yet you get to help rebuild the world after the atomic war. I'm wondering what every-ones thoughts are about the game and how many other are going to buy this game. for those of you who have haven't seen the presentation I'm including a youtube link to it. so you can see what their proposing that game will be like. https://youtu.be/D5esyZPt5Jo I honestly want to know what all of you think.

I wonder if you wake up in the Vault to find your family gone, and finding them is the driving force for the overall storyline...?

I have been impressed by the gameplay videos released of this although my one criticism is that it looks a little too much the same as Fallout 3. Maybe they just haven't shown any of the new stuff, but aside from the next gen graphics I haven't really yet seen anything I haven't seen before. I suppose if it ain't broke...

no they make it clear that your family goes into the vault together but your the only survivor of the vault. they didn't say how your family dies or why.

I'm not really expecting anything different from Fallout 3 or New Vegas other than better graphics so I'm not too worried about that. As long as it doesn't crash every 5 or 10 minutes for me like Fallout 3 did I'll be happy. I'll probably pick it up eventually whenever I get around to picking up an xbox 1 or ps4. Considering Bethesda likes to release their games in the beta phase, it's probably a good idea to wait 6 months to a year before buying it anyway. Considering the death of his family occurs in the backstory I don't expect to be emotionally attached to any of them and Bioware is better about getting me emotionally attached to its characters than Bethesda does anyway (and getting any kind of emotional reaction out of me in general) so yeah. Using the deaths of people the protagonist cares about as an origin story or for drama is a pretty common trope anyway. I'm not really sure how the protagonist living for 200 years without becoming a ghoul or cybernetically plugged into a machine makes sense in the Fallout universe with what I've seen of it but then again I've only played Fallout 3 and New Vegas so I'm unfamiliar with what happened in the other games, so it might make sense. I guess I'll find out eventually whenever I get around to buying it. :)
