bloom Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Someone on another forum I read started a thread like this recently and I shamelessly yanked the idea thought it might be fun to do it here, too. List your top 10... Anything. The lack of specificity is key! Just list your top 10, whatever it is. Concepts or feelings or just things you like. The world is your oyster. Here's mine, in no particular order (yours don't have to be so involved, I got a little carried away ): 1. The combination of nostalgia and new interest when you revisit something you used to love but haven't watched/listened to/etc. in years and years and you discover new things about it to love. 2. Getting a new script for my glasses and being able to see every leaf and twig with perfect clarity. 3. Garlic bread. Actually, garlic anything. 4. Finally being able to draw a really deep breath after a chest illness, the kind that fills your entire body. 5. When you introduce someone to something you love, and they end up loving it as much as or more than you do. 6. Claiming my body as my own, feeling beautiful because of how I choose to use my body, planning modifications. 7. Taking quizzes. Personality quizzes, especially. I know they don't tell you anything you don't already know but I still find them really soothing. 8. The enormous variation of human communication - accents, slang, dialetcs, languages, via text, via speech. All of it, every aspect. 9. Every sight, scent, and sensation of autumn. I spend 3 seasons every year in eager anticipation of it. 10. The intimacy of having a conversation with somebody you know you couldn't have with anybody else, whether it be something serious or just something silly.
Sawyer Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Hi Junia can I quote your list?? Or put "Junia" in my top 10 list??? This is exactly what I wanted to write in mine!! So instead I had to come up with something new. Look:1. Getting to know somebody special for the first time, whether it's romantic or not, and sharing parts of yourself with them in return.2. Contrasts. Examples include autumn signifying endings (plant life) and beginnings (new school year) and transitions in general, someone with a dark exterior having a bright personality, and safely using electronic technology while completely surrounded by nature.3. Eating spicy food alongside something creamy.4. Going to a seasonal place. Examples include apple orchards in the fall, barbeques in the summer, gardens in the spring, and christmas tree farms in the winter.5. Delicate, rich-colored floral patterns (and florals in general).6. When you really, really don't want to go to an event and it gets canceled. 7. Having the same level of energy as the people around you and being able to spend your time together accordingly.8. A dog holding its own leash.9. Mildly sweet, cold floral tea.10. Being able to express important parts of myself, subtly or not, in an external way.
Juto Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Haha Junia, this is such a sweet idea... So Uhm... Okay...in random order: 1. Having bare feet2. All things cutesy and fluffy that make me wanna puke rainbows and melt into a puddle of happy!3. Coffee! Without it I wouldn't be awake enough to understand the concept of happiness! 4. Colin Firth from his Pride and Prejudice days, preferably in a wet shirt! That's my happy place, right there! 5. The combination of singing (high pitched and slightly off key if at all possible), dancing and cooking! I swear, it makes the food taste better!!!6. Mumford and son's "sigh no more"7. Having a private, personal and adorable nickname that kicks "honey, sweetheart, darling, sweetie and cutie"s ass!!8. The three men in my life! J, B, J 9. How saying just a phrase, a name or a title of something awesome can ignite the same fan girly joy in a friend in a heartbeat, making you both ecstatic and screamishly weird! 10. Hugs! In all their warm, comforting, supportive, friendly, lovable and Absolutely amazing glory!
PuddinPop Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Ooh, me next!1. Having no child and nothing going on for an entire day - being able to stay in bed as long as I want, strutting around in my pyjamas all day, not doing my hair or make up and eating ice cream straight from the tub.2. Driving down the road alone, windows down, my favourite music blaring, singing my heart out and not giving a shit.3. Spending quality time with someone I haven't seen for a long time. I love it when you have that relationship with someone where you don't have to see each other a lot or talk every day, but when you do see each other, it's like you never spent a day apart.4. Sour cream, guac and garlic. 5. That moment when the butters completely melts into the toast, the bread completely absorbing it, turning it into an almost-soggy, buttery treat.6. Supernatural 7. Holding hands with someone who has warm hands when mine are really cold. I find it really comforting and soothing.8. Fangirling with my favourite ladies - all of you. You know who you are 9. Giving/doing something that others really appreciate/recognise as being really good. I am such a parasite but I love it when someone praises something I tried really hard to accomplish.10. Sitting outside alone in the sun - just having that tranquil feeling of being completely aware of yourself whilst feeling the warmth on your skin THIS WAS FUN. GREAT TOPIC JUNEBUG <3
Sneezypanda Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 It's gonna be hard to narrow it down . This isn't in any particular order besides #1 being my number 1 XD 1. My fandoms, Kpop and anime. Anything involving them just fills me with so much happiness.2. Days off from work 3. Having on as little clothes as possible XD 4.showers 5. Music in general 6.wine >.> 7.spending time by myself , such an introvert But also 8. Spending time with friends 9.food 10. As cheesy as it is I love having a good relationship with my parents , my mom is my best friend ❤️
Arty Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Hmm..1. The first snowfall of the year. Where it's not yet touch and everything thing looks like its covered in powder sugar.2. The innocence of a child. When they laugh and play with their parents with no care or worry in the world. 3. Wrapping oneself in a warm fluffy blanket when it's rainy or snowing. 4. Cuddling with someone you love...drinking hot peppermint tea as they kiss your cheek.5. Going to an unfamiliar place but it feels familiar. 6. Standing in the rain surrounded by trees and smelling the trees in the air.7. A nice warm bear hug with forehead and nose kisses.8. A kiss that takes your breath away but you want more and more.9. Cookies and Cream ice cream...and mocha Ice cream.10. Laying on the grass as you smell the dew from the rain as you reach for the endless blue sky.
SomethingClever Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Ooh this is beautiful! Made me happy to think of all these things and more...1. Jumping off a rock into a deep, deep, cold river swimming hole on the hottest day of the year2. Being in an airplane, landing in my state after a long time away... circling over the lake and the mountains that I grew up under and knowing that I'm home.3. Sticking my face into my cats' fur, listening to them purr (that one sounds weird. I can't think of a better way to describe it. But if you have a cat I bet you'll get what I mean)4. The first bite of something delicious I made or was made for me.5. Getting it. When you've been struggling with a concept and it suddenly just clicks. Also, watching somebody else get it.6. Driving with my partner. Talking, singing to the radio/ one of our iPods, just sitting in silence. 7. Baths. Especially with fancy bombs or salts or bubbles. And candles. 8. Fires of the camp, fireplace, or woodstove variety. 9. Seeing the ocean for the first time in a long time. Marveling at the horizon where the water meets the sky.10. Live music. Especially with dancing. Especially with friends.
Icarus Rex Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I gave this a lot of thought while I was washing 1,001 dishes just now:1. Autumn has to be on my list, too. Every part of it.2. Idiosyncrasies. It can be someone's speaking rhythm, or the way they fiddle with a piece of jewelry when they talk to people, or the way they nod their head in a really dorky way whenever any music is playing and they have NO IDEA, or the way that someone laughs for way too long at jokes, but you can tell that they're not just putting on a show and that they REALLY MEAN IT. Even though people often have certain mannerisms in common with others, everyone sort of has their own, specific way of doing certain things that is uniquely THEM, and I find that really endearing.3. Live storytelling. I like ghost stories, especially, but would apply this to anything, including listening to someone read aloud. So many stories are delivered through film/internet/TV these days that there is something especially exciting about sitting down and listening to a well-told story, in-person.4. Hearing anyone who has unjustly been made to feel "unworthy" during their lives, in one way or another, say something really positive and confident about themselves.5. Large, empty, open rooms with hardwood floors.6. The sound of a sheep shaking off after it rains. (Which is something I've only witnessed once, but I'm not sure if a gentler sight or sound exists on the planet Earth.)7. Abandoned, human-made structures that have been reclaimed, either by nature or by people. Overgrown houses devoured by vines, the art at Salton Sea, festivals held in ghost towns or deserts that are teeming with life, in that brief moment, but completely quiet and forgotten besides.8. Hand-writing letters and generally making use of snail mail to send my friends mysterious things. In an age where it's so much easier to be in-touch with people through other means, there's something extra warm and Romantic about sending letters, I think.9. The first sip of hot coffee in a quiet cafe on a cold day when you have nowhere in particular to be. (A massively cliche scenario, but it's just... so nice.)10. When performers kind of screw up, but in a really sweet way. Like, when you watch a singer who isn't able to sing their song properly because they're stifling a grin at the realization that the audience knows all the words to their song. Or when a really good comedian just completely loses it at their own joke, especially if they don't always, but it just suddenly hits them, like, "WOW, I actually am really funny, "
Nola Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 AAAAHHHHH!! I love this topic! Can lists be in my top ten?? I'm going to try to sound as eloquent as others have above, but I might fail. Even more general, music and all of its feels. 2. Christmas! Snow! Everything and Anything winter related!! 3. CATS. (not the musical, the real deal). Big, small, mean, nice, mine, yours, you get the idea...4. Elephants. 5. The fields of Immunology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Everything about them, from the general introductions of the subject to the tedious research involved is so, so fascinating, inspiring, relevant and important.6. Cop dramas. Forensic stuff necessary. I know it's cliche at times, but I just love it in book, movie or TV show form. Gimme it all.7. Water. It's so pure and lovely. I'm not even a good swimmer but I would have been very happy as a mermaid.8. I'm going to steal what Junia said above because it's gold: intense, intellectual conversations, or conversations that aren't that you can only have with one person. 9. Writing. It is so freeing.10. My family and friends.

kendisima Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Such a sweet topic!1. That feeling of calm I get when I'm completely alone in a silent room-- I love being able to quiet my mind, even if it's just for a couple minutes.2. When my kitties let me kiss and hold them; nothing better than knowing an animal loves you.3. The feeling of accomplishment I get when I write something I really, really like. I love feeling like I'm good at something I love.4. That very first sip of a delicious coffee.5. Unexpectedly having nothing to do-- getting called off of work, or having someone cancel plans.6. Opposite temperatures. I know it sounds weird, but I love going into my cool apartment after being outside in 110 degree weather, or drinking a hot beverage after being freezing all day.7. Grocery shopping, cleaning the house, other Adult Things that make me feel productive.8. Those perfect showers where you feel extremely, perfectly clean-- smooth legs, scrubbed body, etc.9. Feeling like I'm really good at my job-- not getting overwhelmed, having people tell me I'm doing a good job.10. Curling my legs around my boyfriend's legs while he's sleeping and falling asleep entwined.I loved this. It made me feel so good to write down things I love
gingerdean Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 ooh, this was fun 1. Laughing, and making other people laugh. 2. Spending a whole day canoeing on the river. And in the evening, sitting around a fire in the woods, drinking beer. That's a perfect day in my book. 3. Taking long car rides in the country in the fall, when the leaves are just starting to turn. 4. When my daughter gives me pictures that she drew for me at school, covered with happy suns, flowers, hearts, etc...sounds cheesy but, talk about an overload of warm fuzzies. Makes my heart happy. 5. Singing. In the shower, in my car, at a bar on karaoke night...wherever 6. Sleeping in. Waking up early, turning over, and drifting back to sleep again...mmm. 7. Supernatural. 8. Strawberries, cashews, kettle corn, provel cheese, pineapple, ice cream...Uhm, food in general? I think I must be hungry right now... 9. Going to baseball games with my dad. 10. Massages.
truth Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I love this idea, it's a great idea to come back to this when you're feeling down.1. The smell of the pavement after it rains2. How free your feet feel when taking off your socks after wearing them all day3. Leggings4. Wearing clothes that make you feel confident5. Really cute girls6. Really cute boys7. Really cute nb peeps8. The sound of your keyboard when you type 9. The feeling of satisfaction after you finish writing a chapter/essay/etc10. Figuring out a difficult math problem/brain teaser/mystery
TheBowler Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Let's try this.1. When you have a HUGE (and I mean REALLY HUGE) crush on someone, and you figure out they have a crush on you too (nothing will ever top that feeling).2. Being around tall mountains and crystal clear lakes. Most beautiful things in the world.3. Having a roof over your head to call home.4. Chicken and Cheese Combination. So basic, but it's a taste bud explosion for me! 5. Sports. Guys need them. Wold be lost without them!6. Listening to nature from a creekside log cabin. Talk about being at peace! 7. Friends that are like family.8. Loving someone who loves you back.9. Cheap, yet unforgettable fun with awesome people.10. Paranormal Activity. Not the movie... just anything paranormal! Never know what's out there!
smooshi Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 This topic makes me so warm from the inside. You go, Junia! 1. Turkish or Bosnian coffee. Any strong black coffee made in a pot, in fact. Its smell, taste (I take it with no milk or sugar) and the chilled out, lazy atmosphere I associate with it just hit home for me. 2. Hugs. No matter the context or a person. I'm a tactile type.3. Those people who get really excited when talking about something they love and their entire face lights up.4. Curtain calls. I love theatre in general, I hoard the tickets and count down the days till the performances and enjoy participating as much as being in the audience; but the curtain calls take the special place in my heart. I usually end up yelling like a maniac just for the sake of it, because, from my experience, it mostly baffles the old ladies and pleases the actors. 5. Rain in all its glory. Drizzles, showers, tHuNDeRTOrmSS (!!!).6. Bees 7. Analyzing Latin texts. You can laugh all you want, but it's a perfect kind of mind exercise for those of us who can't do math for the love of their lives Plus, Latin rocks pretty hard.8. Those kind of laughs when you stop making any noise and tilt your head backwards like a confused crocodile until your chest hurts and tears start streaming down your face.9. Deep conversations with open minded people. 10. Records. Goddamn records. Everything about them. And record storesssss
Sophie<3 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 This is a nice thread! 1. The ocean. The smell, the sight, the sound... and the truly magical sensation of playing with the waves. 2. Closely linked to number one: surfing.3. Summer. Just warm air and music and the smell of BBQs and wearing dresses... ~4. The kind of books you sometimes pick up, open anywhere and start reading just to be comforted. And then you're absorbed into this world and suddenly you just feel so at home.5. BBC Sherlock.6. Really long, meaningful hugs.7. Babies. The way they look at you and their little hands and just everything! Aww!8. Flying. Being at the airport, all excited for where you're headed. Either arriving somewhere new or coming home. Being served food and being able to watch movies and listen to music and read with no distractions whatsoever. And looking down at the earth and just... flying! It's amazing!9. Cooking and baking. Using a few ingredients and combining them to make something new and wonderful!10. Long, deep conversations with people you love.
Emily Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Okay I'm typing this out on a word doc before I copypasta to here. These are in no order at all except that in which these came to mind. I'm glad I mostly held off on rambling until like the latter half. I honestly tried really hard. I'm gonna look at these tomorrow and say 'those are not my top ten who wrote this.' 1. When someone calls me their friend and I know they mean it.2. Watching pounding rain being swept away by a windshield wiper in the front passenger seat. Also being inside and comfortable when there's a raging storm outside.3. Walking by myself outside when I feel confident about looking cute as hell.4. Finding money I've long since forgotten about in a random pocket.5. Reading really, really masterful lines of writing. The ones with perfect combinations of letters and words and punctuation that make you read it, then read it again.6. Fluid motion. Water flowing, calligraphy, repeating gifs of something mindlessly enthralling, dancing, an entire field of grass bowing in the wind, slicing cake... lol as long as it moves in a really smooth way I'm in.7. Solving for for x. There's something really satisfying about dong math okay I'm not a nerd but like okay never mind that I'm such a nerd. BUT I REALLY SUCK(ED) AT HIGH SCHOOL MATH SO MY LAST GOOD MEMORIES OF MATH WAS ALGEBRA ALL THE WAY BACK IN 7TH GRADE. I also really like word and logic puzzles and riddles.8. High notes sung well, and on the other end, nice low notes sung by contraltos. Q v Q I LOVE NICE VOICES SO MUCH. Like you know it's good when the notes enter your head and kind of make your skin tingle and you hold your breath waiting for the notes to reach their climax. AND THEN POWERFUL VOICE OH MAN DO NOT GET ME STARTED.9. When people pay attention to me and care about what I'm saying. I'm not really a soft-spoken person among friends, but I have zero confidence when I speak because people usually talk over me or just don't really care. This happens pretty often in any sort of group chat in person or online, so I usually let it go as per etiquette of being part of a group. But when people ask me what I was saying when I get cut off I'm super shocked and pleasantly surprised because like !! you want to hear what I'm saying? 10. I'm a whore for feels. Super tragic sad story, yes give it to me. Rollercoaster of emotions that lead to a happy ending but the sequel is devastatingly tearjerking? My favorite. I just want to cry all the time for not real things. Wow what a way to end a list of top tens.
Bruyere Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 1. Talking with my Nan. 2. Being called 'pet' by old ladies from up north on the phone at work. 3. Walking by the river.4. Cool clean sheets on the bed. 5. Getting the conundrum on Countdown. 6. Murder, She Wrote. 7. Letters from the other side of the world. 8. Rain on the skylight. 9. Watching ballet.10. When my orchids flower again after I think my neglect has finally killed them off.
TaurielRiver Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Although you said the list could be anything, I'm going to roll with the theme! (It's too good! )1. Stumbling across a song (especially from a category that can't technically have anything else added to it... e.g. '80's') and having a "how could I not have appreciated this until now?!" moment, followed by listening on repeat for hours.2. Busting out some impromptu dance moves during the above and this not be followed by the neighbours knocking to ask what that thumping/banging sound is.3. Doing anything that younger-me was too nervous/self-conscious or concerned with 'what other people think' to take part in, and then enjoying it enough for older-and-younger-me combined.4. Starting a creative project and then realising an inordinate amount of hours have flown by and I still can't tear myself away.5. Cutting through the dog-walking/free-play section of the park and having the most adorable puppies come running over to say hi. I almost (but not quite) feel bad when the owner calls them back and they are so, so not listening.6. Fangoop in all its flavours.7. Seeing that doesn't-come-round-everyday film or theatre performance that is just... wow. That happened!8. Picking up phrases to politely greet/order/thank hospitality staff in a country where I do not speak the language, and managing to get it (passably!) right... or... close enough for them to humour me?9. When my face hurts but I then realise it's because I've been laughing for [too long to insert and not sound like a crazy person] amount of minutes straight.10. Sharing what I know is a super geeky story, but then the other person totally gets why this is in fact THE COOLEST EVER.
skater Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 1) When someone recommends a song to me, and then I think of that person whenever the song comes on2) Staying up late and being in that mood where everything is funny3) I'm usually really shy and quiet, even around my closest friends, but every once in a while I'll be hanging out with people and I'll realize that my shyness has momentarily disappeared, and I can be just as loud/confident as everyone else. And it's the best feeling.4) Kickflips and landing bolts5) Sitting by a fireplace wearing sweatpants and fuzzy socks (bonus points if the socks are brand new)6) Everything about ski days! Getting out early when the mountain isn't crowded yet and the trails are groomed, falling on moguls, going off the trails and into the woods, the sound of skis on the terrain park rails, talking on the chairlift, night skiing, stopping to buy chocolate waffles 7) The feeling of being on a team8) Log cabins9) When someone actually remembers a small thing about me that I'd told them a long time ago10) THIS THING.
MaiMai Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I love this topic so much! 1. Winter. Everything about it; thick, warm coats and jumpers, the days getting shorter, warm drinks on cold evenings, going from the warmth to the cold and vice versa... It's such a cosy season.2. Christmas! Maybe it's immature, but it still feels so magical to me every year. There's always an atmosphere of excitement, companionship, romance, and everything is brightly lit and sparkly, which is even more beautiful in contrast with the darkness and the cold. It's an inherently happy time of year for me.3. Snow (bit of a theme developing here...) When it's just starting to fall, or when you wake up and there's a new covering of snow on the ground, completely untouched and pristine. It doesn't snow much down here, which is maybe why I love it so much - it's elusive and special to me.4. When I'm revising a topic for an exam, and I realise that I know it really damn well. It's one of my favourite feelings ever. I feel so on top of everything and like I've accomplished something, because even if it's one topic out of, say, twelve, if I understand one, that means I can come to understand the others! Likewise, when I have a really successful revision session, and I come out of a three-hour fog of case law and philosophical quotations completely satisfied with what I've gotten done.5. Downloading new music onto my iPod, and knowing it'll be there the next time I'm on a long car journey or wandering or something. Having a whole new set of songs to listen to always feels like such a treat to me, and the second I've downloaded something new, I get so excited to listen to it!6. Spending meaningful time with friends, particularly one to one. I love having long, involved, deep conversations with another person and coming away from it understanding them more and knowing that we're closer than we were before. Similarly, falling in friend-love with someone, when you just want to know them and be with them because they're so amazing.7. Being in that zone where you can't stop writing. All of the words are coming so easily to you and fit so easily on the page, and you're saying exactly what you want to say, and feel like you're being heard.8. Dancing around the kitchen, or my bedroom, or wherever when I'm home alone. It makes me really aware of my body, in a good way, like I have complete control and I love it. That, and music just makes me so happy.9. That feeling when you get out of a swimming pool after swimming for ages, and gravity suddenly hits you again. Your body feels weary in a pleasant way, and the air feels warm and sort of thick in comparison to the water, which was cool and smooth, and the tiles feel rough under your bare feet. I need to go swimming more often.10. When there's that one section in a piece of choral music where the combination of notes and keys and voices combined is somehow completely perfect, but you can't explain why. In the same way, when you have a favourite part of a song that you can't reason why you love so much, but the second you hit 'play' on that particular track, you're waiting for it.It was strangely difficult to keep this to only ten, actually. I might have to continue this list somewhere else...
TwinklingStars053 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 1. When you go out/do things by yourself once in a while.2. The adrenaline rush after riding a rollercoaster. Or riding/driving something that goes really fast.3. When you order something online and the package finally arrives, and seeing my name on the package just makes the moment better for some reason.4. The smell of coffee, an auto parts store, and popcorn.5. Daydreaming outside on a sunny day6. When the lights go out from a thunderstorm at night, so you have to turn on candles or flashlights.7. When you print/copy paper in large amounts and the paper is still hot minutes later.8. The feeling when you know that you have won your cat's trust (I'm going to assume it's a cat person thing.....right?)9. The lingering smell of my perfume still on me after I've worn it all day.10. The sound of the pouring thunderstorm hitting the roof/house, and you're safe inside.
Mustang Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Instead of doing my AP Gov homework, I will list my top 10 favorite dog breeds. 1. Bichon Frise. Obligatory no.1, because I own one. They are so fluffy, smart, and a big plus is that they shed extremely little. 2. Papillon. Incredibly beautiful dogs3. American Cocker Spaniel. Happy-go-lucky and intelligent, they are a perfect dog for families4. American Staffordshire Terrier. With their soulful eyes and friendly nature, this breed easily makes my top ten list. 5. Smart, friendly, adorable, and in three varying sizes, there's a perfect poodle for everyone. 8. Belgian Malinois. Although the breed is known to have boundless energy, my instrument tutor's dog is calm, and obedient, the best behaved dog I have ever encountered.9. Yorkshire Terrier. They fit into purses. 10. Clumber Spaniel. They look so wise even as puppies, and are lowkey as fuck.
bloom Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Instead of doing my AP Gov homework, I will list my top 10 favorite dog breeds. I LOVE this. I'm so glad so many people have participated! I love reading all of these things about you, it's so much fun.
