Hello y'all! I am conducting an experiment for my science class using the question: Does age matter in whether a person sees the hag or the lady first?

I would really appreciate your help, because I need to increase my sample size to make my conclusion more accurate. Please look at the picture and complete the poll. Also, it would help if you specified your age in the replies, but it is not necessary at all. Thank you so much!

I'm 29 and I saw the young lady first. I CAN see the old woman, but I need to really focus cuz my brain wants to automatically go to the lady.

I'm 23 and even though I've seen this image countless times and I tell myself to try to see the young lady first, I always see the hag first.

I'm curious, what's your hypothesis?

I've been staring at it and staring at it, but I can't see a lady face!

If it helps, she's meant to be looking away from you in the image - the hag's nose is the lady's chin.

I'm curious, what's your hypothesis?

My hypothesis is "If a younger person (12-30) views the optical illusion, then he or she will see the lady first." And vice versa.

I based my hypothesis off of the experiment we conducted in our class, and by a show of hands, most people saw the lady first.

The lady's chin is the hag's nose, and like Junia said, the lady is looking over her shoulder. The hag's mouth is the lady's necklace.

Thank you! At last! :rofl:

It's really weird though, my brain always reverts to the hag, after each brief glimpse of the lady. I think it's because my mind is usually drawn towards the nose when I look at a face and the hag's is so prominent it makes my brain focus on it.

I'm really into optical illusions, especially illustrated ones like this, so I've seen this one numerous times already. I think the scale is actually the main thing that affects which image I see first. When I've seen it in print (books, a poster at the Nerd Museum of Nerd, etc.), I've always seen the lady first, but looking at the thumbnail embedded in your post, I definitely saw the hag first.

Or I just haven't seen this since I was younger, and have since become a hag myself. :rofl:

(Short-winded answer: I'm 25 and saw the hag.)

This is a really cool experiment, though. I'm curious to see the outcome.

I saw the young lady instantly, and in order to see the hag I needed to look for her. I'm 30.

I'm 30 and I see the young lady first, but I only have to blink to see the hag. I've seen this one before, first time in early childhood, but back then I saw the hag first and had to really look for the young lady. :lol:

I can see both and am able to switch back and forth at will. I am 29 so right on the cusp, but I've always been able to see both. I see the young lady first 99% of the time.

I remember being shown this in elementary school and it took me forever to see the lady. I saw the lady first, though, now. I'm 15. It helps if I squint if I want to see the hag. xD

I can't vote so I'm gonna say, I'm 16 and I saw the lady face first however focus enough I can see the hag.
