ginger1 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Is anyone else who has this fetish a germaphobe? I sort of am, not to the extreme or anything, but I've always read/seen things where a character sneezes on somebody's face or chest, and I have to exit out immediately . Now PLEASE don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'm better than those who enjoy such content, it's just not my kind of thing. I read a story recently where a person sneezes into their hand and then goes to hold their girlfriend's hand, and she liked it. This was a real story too, not fiction. I would have absolutely lost it. Sneezing is great, but just not on me.
murphy dee Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I'm the exact same way! I don't even like when I accidentally sneeze on myself, much less if someone else sneezed on me.
Cutelittlenose Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 *raises hand* It's so scary. I avoid ill people the best I can, and would never ever let someone sneeze on me. The possibility of falling ill is so scary. I pride on keeping clean. If you sneeze into your hand, wash it, please. Unless it's really graphic, the descriptions in fiction don't make me uncomfortable. Because it isn't real. Falling ill honestly, is the worst fate. Strangely, I enjoy fiction with colds, because it's more vulnerable-like than allergies. And sometimes, I wonder how people can write sneezes on the face, etc...it feels so unclean and dangerous. At least tissues add a cute, little harmless tint to the nose. And then you wonder if there's really crazy people out there that do it on purpose and put lives in jeopardy. It terrifying. Germs are terrifying.
SleepingPhlox Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Honestly I think it makes a lot of sense from an evolutionary standpoint. Modern medicine is very recent and it wasn't long ago that things we take in our stride now could kill us.I am terribly utalitarian with these things. If something won't incapacitate me I'm chill about it. Basically if you've been bedridden for 3 days, get away from me. If you can still function, we're good. And years of looking after animals has taught me that if it can be washed off, its not too gross to put my hands in. But, like, I have the good manners to do my best not to spread things to other people. Thats important to me.I can't speak for everyone but I enjoy thing in fics that I would not go near in real life. Its like a safe way to explore things if you know what I mean.
blueprint Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Me, too! I'm a bit weird that way, because contaging is one of my favorites, but I don't want it to be graphic and I hate sneezing myself! But I guess we're all different.
sneezingbeauty Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 i wouldn't say that im a full on germaphobe, but i hate being touched or hand to hand contact lol, i dont like it when people dont cover their mouthes when sneezing but im not fussy with how they do it and if they wash their hands afterwards.
Sawyer Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I used to have pretty bad OCD for sanitation and hygiene, so I know where you are coming from. I felt like being in the same room as someone who had a cold would make me sick almost immediately, and I hated that my "pure" state of healthiness would be "contaminated". I would freak the fuck out, and if I ever got that scratchy feeling in my throat, it was game over. I'd go nuts because I was so upset. The idea of my pure and healthy body having something in it that would affect me that much was a total nightmare! For the past few years, I've gotten a lot better, and after I moved out to live on my own, I haven't actually cared much at all. When I feel myself getting sick, I just kind of think "oh, that sucks" and I continue on. I really don't mind it now, unless, like SleepingPhlox said, the disease is something that would keep me from carrying out my daily routine.
TouchOfGrey Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I enjoy things in fiction that would make me flip a f***ing switch in real life. But on that note in no facet of my being fictional or otherwise would I want someone to sneeze in my face lol. I do enjoy contagion in stories (a lot), but without the gross theatrics. I'm an idiosyncratic germaphobe. I will eat off the floor. But if you're sick and you're not my husband get the f***ing f*** away from me! When I feel like I'm getting sick I descend into a pseudo-psychotic state of panic. Couldn't tell you why that is but to me being physically gross and sick and contagious is the most mortifying thing in ever. I'll eat handfuls of raw garlic and do other herbal remedies and it works. I haven't been legitimately sick in over 5 years and even that was so minor. I'm addicted to spicy food. I can go through a bottle of tabasco a day. I think that might be the secret to my crazy good immune system
Snufaleeze Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 It's with me too! I don't like being touched or touching dirty things or other people. Weird part for me though is it's mostly my dad that freaks me out. He wipes his nose withe his hand then touches everything and never covers his mouth. He's dirty to me and he knows it and get's mad at me when I won't let him touch my things. I'm pretty good with other people. If your are sick, I will try to avoid as much as I can but something's can't avoided. This happened just today where my friend is coming down with a cold and was coughing into his elbow but facing me and I said, "Can't you face the other way?" He said, "No, cause then I'll cough on _____! Your my best friend I can do that you!" So yeah. I guess he can cough my way. No point in arguing with him.
BananaTree Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I have to be cuz I have an autoimmune disease. It would be bad for me to get sick. I don't have a choice
telltale Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I like contagion in fiction quite a lot actually, but am totally phobic about it in real life, which I've never understand. Pandemics/epidemics are my one genuine phobia and always have been. I feel like in the special circumstance of it being someone I'm in love with, I wouldn't be phobic about their germs, but it wouldn't be anything that appealed to me either. I'm big into caretaking on a variety of different levels, so there's no way I could avoid or would want to avoid taking care of a SO. It's a weird situation.
Melody Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) I feel like I am a germaphobe, but I do not mind it in fics. However I'm a germaphobe with like 90 % of people. I am not a germaphobe with my very close friends or a S.O. But that pretty much is the extent of my tolerance. Other than dealing with a small handful of people, I'm such a germaphobe. Personaly I find it's just different with the people who you are really close to you, or if it's your partner. Edited September 11, 2015 by Harmony
sneezelove123 Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I'm like BananaTree, I kind of have to be a germaphobe because of an wakened immune system stemming from a health thing. As badly as I want to be sneezed on, it would not end up well. lol
TheMaster Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I'm a complete real life germaphobe and will do everything to avoid germs and stuff in real life. I just find it squicky when people aren't sanitary with their own germs. However on the other hand I love reading about contagion in fictional situations. I think mostly because I know it's not real and the fact that I at the point I stop reading everyone goes back to being perfectly fine and that it doesn't matter because nobody actually got sick or risked getting any other real people sick. I think the difference stems from the fact that I've been in situations where you know the fact that someone's being careless with a cold is putting other people in much more serious risk then a few sniffles. Where as in fic you know everyone's going to be fine in the end.
nothingtolose2026 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Just like what a lot of other people said, what I like in fiction is a whole different story compared to what I like in real life. Sneezing on someone, wiping someone else's nose, etc. are good in fiction for me, but I don't think I could handle it in real life.... Contagion, on the other hand, really gets me going.... Just the thought of sharing something so personal (usually in a persons most vunerable state) is really hot ☺️
Bashfulnewbie Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I'm not really germaphobe but there are things I can't stand. Saliva is one of them, I'm not big on making out and really wet kisses ate a huge turn off for me. I can't stand drooling babies... It's like wipe that off before you get anywhere near me... And I'm a huge animal person, but can't stand dog drool. With sneezes seeing the spray (or God forbid feeling it) seriously grosses me out. And reading fictions, stuff with the spray is a serious turn off for me.
Nervous-Bean Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Yes FINALLY! Someone who I can discuss this topic to! It's so true! When ever I'm reading a story or something, and some character sneezes and has like this awkward string of snot just like, there, and they're all embarrassed or whatever, all I can think was "OH MYYY GODDDD! AUAYUGDHISNWJW YES!"But thenIf someone in front of me did that, all I can think is "OOOHHHHH MYYYYYYY GOOOOODDDDD!!!! AUAYUGDHISNWJW NO!"Then I'd try to squirm away the best I can. I seriously find real life, one to one, in person, wet sneezing cringe worthy to the highest level but not if it's fictional. Literally smelling someone's sneeze is the thing that terrifies me to a point that I don't know how to describe it! XD there isn't anything wrong with people who enjoy that, but it's not my preference! I'm pretty sure this is also relatable but I seriously can't stand it when someone in my family sneezes. I have to lock myself in my room and never come out until the air is clean and filtered. Gosh I love fanfiction too much XD
secretfetish1 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Urggg this is so me... I avoid sick people as far as possible as I can't be around them without looking umcomfertable and feeling ewwww.. but I think if I had a SO, it would be different... its weird. :-/
Justanaveragepotato Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 If the person has allergies and sneezes on all good and we'll but if your sick I'd probably pinch in the throat those germ bags Im a germaphobe
sneezeagainplease Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 In real life, I would be really grossed out if were sneezed or coughed on (which, I have been and I find it pretty disgusting). I'm pretty sanitary and I wash my hands often and cover my mouth when I cough or sneeze. I do not like to be around someone who is sick and sneezing, unless maybe it is a S.O. because I don't want to catch it.In fiction, I love reading about contagion, messiness and spray!
