StaraiRoalanstjay Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 For those of you who don't know, Are You Being Served was a British sitcom from the 70s, and it was about a group of people who worked in a large department store in London (An early version of Debenhams or John Lewis, if you like). The series went to pot in its later years, due to numerous characters being replaced and the writers basically running out of ideas, but all in all it was a bloody excellent show. Is It Catching? was the first episode from Series 8 and it is definitely my favourite episode, not just because it has sneezing in it (There were other episodes with sneezing too!) but because it had one of the most bizarre concepts for a plot thread that I had ever seen, and it's all to do with illness (One of my kinks, if I'm honest.) Basically, one of the main characters collapses at work, and then it comes to light that he has caught a fictional illness called 'Marines Disease', and one of the symptoms (or 'stages') is persistent sneezing. Then, all of his co-workers are told that they have most likely caught the disease from him, so they must be 'quarantined' in the shop basement until they are better. I loved the Carry On films when I was younger, but the sneezing in Carry On Girls didn't do anything for me at all... I don't really know why, but I think it's something to do with the exaggeration of it all.
