ChanelNo5 -I was wondering when someone was going to say Whitney's version of "I Will Always Love You". That song was my everything when I was young :biggrinsmiley:

Lots of favorites already mentioned, but I can think of plenty more. I don't know how to get the icon thingy to show up, though.

Jimmy Mo Mhile Stor by the Chieftans and the Rankin Family. My favorite version of one of my favorite songs.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QT_vYdM_h4

I really love the 2Cellos guys, hard to pick a favorite, but probably Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mx0xCI1jaUM  or U2's With or Without You   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCgomyvD_PQ    (and as an added bonus to myself, one of the guys totally resembles Jensen Ackles   :yay: )

Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvKyBcCDOB4

Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zAThXFOy2c

When You Say Nothing at All by Alison Krauss    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SCOimBo5tg

Because the Night by 10,000 Maniacs   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUGC5oRpbkg

Ol' Red by Blake Shelton (I'm not a big fan of Blake, but I do really like this cover)     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asxrMSVrJ08

Whipping Post by Mountain Heart - Man I love this one, and Josh Shilling (guy playing keyboard) is amazing   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eIcvGtCL4c

And I could probably name dozens of  bluegrass-style covers that I like (which would probably be akin to torture to most on here, so I won't ) but a couple of my favorites are  Elton John's Rocket Man by Iron Horse  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdAyO1_0noM  and 3 Doors Down's Kryptonite by Cornbread Red https://youtu.be/M5DmHi1SHeM

Oh, I got a good one!  Not too long ago, Puddle of Mud did a really nice cover of the iconic 1969 song Gimme Shelter, by the Rolling Stones.  I like this one because it adheres very closely to the style of the original song but still manages to sound "heavier" as you would expect from modern rock.  I've got a few more favorites that I didn't even know were covers until I recently heard the originals.  I'll post those later.

"Come Back Baby," or, Aretha Franklin turns a really sad ballad about lost love into THE WHOLE ENTIRE TURN-UP:

Also, most of Whitney Houston's cover songs on her albums are trash but this live Gershwin mashup makes me mourn for the all-standards album we'll never get:

Blows the original Superstar COMPLETELY out of the water. Like Aretha levels of blow-out (Say A Little Prayer? Dionne who? Respect what? Otis who?). Pop melodrama at its finest:

EDIT oh and this jazz cover of Michael Jackson I just discovered today:

And my all-time favourite cover.... Titanium - The Piano Guys (originally by David Guetta & Sia). It's instrumental, so no vocal cover, but it's amazing.

YES!  I <3 Piano Guys (Have even seen them in concert- whooot!!) .  That one is a brilliant cover.

I really like this cover of Dirty Diana by The Weeknd. He sounds a lot like Michael Jackson on this and I felt he did a really good job.

Also, Ryan Adams did an excellent job at covering Taylor Swift's 1989 in its entirety. My personal favorite is his cover of Out of the Woods.

I can definitely appreciate all the Piano Guys and PMJ in this thread! I'm surprised, however, that nobody has brought up Vitamin String Quartet.

Writing's on the Wall- originally by Sam Smith for Spectre. I'm not a fan of the original, but this is gorgeous .

Also....

Stressed Out by Twenty One Pilots. Again, the cover is (in my opinion) better than the original.

And finally, Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect. Maybe it's because I'm Decemberists trash, but I am obsessed with this. Yay for VSQ!

Ok two covers of one song!

Both Twenty One Pilots and Haley Reinhart's versions of Can't Help Falling in Love are wonderful.

The recent passing of Prince brought to mind this cover of Kiss. Yes, that would be Tom Jones and The Art of Noise.

Look how old this hecking thread is  but I knew it existed somewhere and didn't want to create a new one, so I dug it out :awesum:

I just wanted to post this, because I found this guy a while ago and sort of forgot about him but then started listening again. He does metal covers of really popular songs, and has a whole library of Disney classics. They're all so wonderful, I would definitely recommend checking him out~

But for now, I just want to post my current favourite cover version of his, from the Hunchback of Notre Dame movie. It's not my favourite Disney movie, but this has to be one of my all-time favourite Disney songs. It's so powerful, and this guy's cover does it more than justice, I think.

Anyway,  here we go. And back to letting this thread fizzle out again xD

I can not get enough of this new cover.

Same! I love this song to start with and Rivers vocals just kill it.

Oh yay, this topic is back :yay: Sorry if any of these have been mentioned already, I tried to avoid repeats :thumbsup2:

Corey Taylor covering 'Wicked Game' (originally by Chris Isaak)

Gretchen Wilson and Alice in Chains covering Barracuda. Sooo good

Someone's gonna laugh at me for this one, but oh well   It's the only version of this song that i like.

Fiona Apple's cover of Across the Universe:

Jewel's cover of "Have a Little Faith in Me":

Alien Ant Farm covering Michael Jackson's 'Smooth Criminal'. I'm not saying it's better, but I still love it.

Even though I love New Order, I really love this version of Blue Monday by Orgy!

And I love this version of Toxic, originally done by Britney Spears.

From the movie 'Walk the line' this 2 covers are great.

'I walk the line' by Joaquin Phoenix - originally by Johnny Cash

And 'Wildwood Flower' by Reese Witherspoon - originally by The Carter Family. Reeses version of it is just so beautiful

Here's a few more I thought of. They're all pretty mellow 😅 Guess I'm in kind of a melancholy mood

Sheryl Crow - The First Cut is the Deepest

K.D. Lang - Helpless. I love her voice. I could listen to it all day

Lily Allen -  Somewhere Only We Know

Dink's Song -Andrea von Kampen. I re-discovered this song during Season 11 of Supernatural (surprise surprise) but this is by far my favorite version.

Diana Krall- Don't Dream It's Over

Got a few to add in;

Josh Groban's "Hymme a L'Amour", originally by Edith Piaf.

LeAnn Rimes' "16 Tons", originally by Tennessee Ernie Ford (though I do like both versions).

I actually like both of them equally, but because I like the band a lot, I've got a soft spot for Poets of the Fall's "You Know My Name", originally by Chris Cornell.

A beautiful cover by Youtuber Erutan of "Come Little Children", originally from Hocus Pocus.

Simple Plan's "Surrender", originally by Cheap Trick.

Michael Buble's version of the Spider-Man theme, originally from the old cartoon.

Michael Andrew's "Mad World", originally by Tears for Fears (which has a massively different tone to it).

Shirley Bassey's "Big Spender", originally from the musical Sweet Charity.

Amy Lee's "Sally's Song", originally from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The version of "Roxanne" from Moulin Rouge! is so much better than the original version by The Police, at least to me.

D.H.T.'s "Listen to Your Heart", originally by Roxette.

...I may have gotten a little too into this topic. I'm sorry.

I think this is sponsored by a bank... let's not worry about that, because I am a material girl.

I LOVE Darlingside's cover of 1979 by The Smashing Pumpkins. So grateful for this thread, I love a good cover version 😍

I love cover versions that put a new spin on the song rather than try to emulate the original.  I especially love versions that take a song from one genre and play it in a different genre.  These are some ones I found by accident while looking for the original on YouTube but fell in absolute LOVE with the cover versions!

WAAH! They're awesome! I like both songs already, but these are just good - if not better, at least in the first case.

Yeah, shut up, I know I'm obsessed with this show, but the metal cover of the already great theme is just AMAZING!! And usually I'm not that into metal, even.

Also, bonus points because he really looks like he enjoys playing! ^_^

Actual song starts 6-7 seconds in. :)

(PS: check out his cover of Interstellar theme too. :omg: That one starts right away.)
