MegOfAllTrades Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I've seen bits and pieces of Dragonball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragonball GT, watched a few of the movies, and have played enough of the games and liked it all well enough to consider myself a fan of the franchise. However, I still haven't watched the two newest films, and have not seen Super but I know that it's on Cruchyroll now if I decide to. What do y'all think about it? Does it hold up to the original shows? To be honest I think I may already have a slight bias going in because I really don't dig the new animation and design style but perhaps it may grow on me.
murphy dee Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I've been a BIG DBZ fan ever since I was like 12. I've seen about 1/3 of Dragon Ball, everything but the last half of the Buu Saga in DBZ, and all of GT (unfortunately), and I've seen all the movies as well. Before you see Super, DEFINITELY watch the Battle of Gods and the Resurrection-F movies. The first two arcs of Super are retellings of these movies, but the movies are better overall so I recommend watching them first if you can. Super has some bad times, especially animation-wise, but I think it's a good show. It's funny and charming just like DBZ was, and it introduces new characters that are like IMMEDIATE faves. (HIT <3 I love Hit. And Cabba. And Zamasu.) And you'll meet Jaco and Beerus and Whis in the movies (they're also in Super) and they're just...the best. The best characters ever. Especially Beerus. I think you'd be missing out on some really incredible stories and character moments if you skipped Super, so I would say please give it a chance!
47Bears Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 for me, super is just what i needed, an anime that takes itself seriously while still being funny. I wouldn't say it's as good as Z, but i personally like it more than the original. probably because of black and zamasu alone at this point

I only have a few things to add! The new DBZ movies (which are basically shortened versions of DBZ Super) do a great job of giving old fans what GT severely failed at: a revival of the series as well as fun and zany ways of subtly making fun of itself. I've seen some great/hilarious scenes from Super that made me glad I am still a DBZ fan, even though it can get tedious at times. If you're wary, I have to agree that you should definitely watch Battle of the Gods all the way through first and then pass your judgement. You really only need the one movie, and if you like it, move on to Rez F. If, like me, you wanted more, watch Super. Have fun and happy streaming!
