Gratitude Prompt: Dream One of the saving graces of being a TA for an introductory plant science class at UCLA, Hannah thought, was the practical, real world experience field trip to Griffith Park at the end of the semester. To be frank, it was because of Dr. Wright’s allergies and as for someone like Hannah, who had a kink for sneezing, it was her personal dream once a year. She stayed with most of the students, answering questions when needed, and stole glances at Dr. Wright when she could. He was standing with another student on the path near a bundle of weeds with soil in his right hand. The sleeves of his dress shirt were rolled to his elbows and his dark-rimmed glasses, which he only wore when his allergies were bothering him, were perched on his reddening nose. If she was any closer, she swore she’d be able to see the pink in his usual piercing green eyes. “Ms. Scott...” Hannah turned her attention back to one of the students and tried to clear her mind for the rest of the trip. Of course, it didn’t last long as the longer their group stayed at the park, the more Dr. Wright’s allergies got to him. He was sniffing almost after every few words as they stood in front of a field of wildflowers. Hannah kept her hands clasped together as she and the students listened to him talk about the different soils found in the park. “And well, it’s quite remarkable because ” Dr. Wright continued with a sniff. “Because…” The first year she went on this trip, she wondered why he took students here if it aggravated his allergies so much. Hannah quickly learned that he was dedicated to his work, he was forty without a significant other to speak of, and it wasn’t that bad. She would always remember the day he told her that Benadryl made him too tired to function so he never took allergy medication. She pursed her lips at that as she tried to contain her excitement then went to her next task. Hannah’s brows furrowed as she watched his demeanor change. He was stuck on a word as his brows knitted together and his breath caught in his throat. “Well, it’s because…,” He sniffed again and rubbed at his nose. Hannah could feel his itchiness as he watched him, his eyes slowly close. “Beca… aah,” his nostrils flared for a moment before he surrendered. “Heh… HEISHH'h!” Dr. Wright caught the sneeze in his elbow and sniffed hard when he was finished. It always started with one. Hannah pursed her lips and watched as he straightened up and continued, the irritation from his nose seemingly long gone. She watched as he spoke about his passion with glassy eyes and a reddening nose as the day progressed. He was still enchanted by the park, albeit stopping to take off his glasses to rub at his eyes. He never showed any interest in leaving. Of course, his sneezes continued. They were always full-bodied and sharp. Hannah’s favorites. When she offered him a tissue when he finished his last talk and they all started walking back to the entrance, she took in his irritated, almost swelling eyes. “Did you… HEIISHHue!” he sneezed into the tissue, sniffed, then looked at Hannah again. “Did you like the trip?” Hannah smiled softly. “I did. It’s always informative.” “ It’s nice to be out with nature rather than stuck in a classroom, you know?” his eyes lit up when he talked, tissue still in hand. “I prefer it actua… heh.. heh…” his brows furrowed as his jaw slacked then raised the tissue back to his nose. “HehISHH'h! Heh-ishht! HESHHue!” Hannah watched as he sniffed hard and groaned softly into his tissue before he looked up then said. “Yeah, I prefer being out here too. It’s one of my favorite days of the academic year.”

Gratitude Prompt: Contagious After four years of living in New York City, Caleb still wasn’t sure if he liked it. He loved the culture, the architecture, the food, his job and friends. He hated subways and other New Yorkers. The people were too pushy and the subway was too dirty. He wasn’t surprised that he was sneezed on the morning train to get to work. It was mid-January and he heard about the few strands of colds and flus going around. He was surprised, though, that the person who sneezed on him was a small business woman and not the older man sitting a few seats down with a wad of used tissues in his hands. Caleb easily remembered the sound and the feel. It was wet and when he felt the spray on the back of his neck, he cringed. He only turned around when he heard her congested voice. “Oh sir,” her eyes were tired and her nose was pink. Caleb took in her pale blonde curly hair that matched her fair skin tone. “I’m so… hehhh!” she turned to the side and bent down, sneezing uncovered onto the subway. “IISSHHH! Heh! ESSSHHHuh!” she sniffed heavily before she straightened and looked at him again. “I’m so sorry.” He heard a throaty and muffled sneeze from the older man a few seats down at the same time she apologized. He barely replied and immediately took a hot shower when he arrived home. It didn’t matter, though, because he was sick in bed the next Sunday with a box of tissues on his nightstand. Now, he was positively sure he loathed New York City. Prompt: Confess “Oh, hold on. I need to sneeze,” Gerald turned away and stifled a sneeze on his wrist. “Gngxghh!” he sniffed and he turned to look at Beth again. “I’m sorry. I’m ruining the mood.” Beth’s heart sunk at the words. They both had been busy for almost two weeks and finally were able to get together. She was more than excited to kiss her boyfriend again and tried to make the best of it when he kept sneezing as they made out on her bed. She rolled off him and laid next to him, running a hand through her short hair. She blurted out the words before she could stop herself. “You’re not. I love your sneezes.” Gerald’s brows furrowed. “What?” “I like them,” Beth took a deep breath and looked at him. “They, um… actually turn me on,” she cringed when he stayed quiet. “I’m sorry, it’s so weird.” A soft smile formed on his lips a moment minute. “Don’t be sorry, it’s cute.” Gerald wrapped his arms around her then kissed her. Beth’s heart relaxed as happiness filled her body.

If anyone has any prompts they want me to do, I'd be happy to. Prompt: Headcold “AaaktSCHHhew!” Ezra sneezed into the crumpled ball of tissues in his hands again. He had been fighting off the same headcold for the past week and despite feeling like a bus hit him, he didn’t call off sick. The quarterly reports were due soon after all. His eyes trailed to the time at the corner of his computer monitor. 8:19PM. He groaned as incessant tickle reared its ugly head. It grew and stayed at the tip of his nose as his breath began to hitch. “Heh...heh! AaiiSSCHHhggh-ISSHHew!” Congestion filled his sinuses when he rubbed his nose. He threw away the tissue in the wastebasket next to his desk then rubbed his eye as he turned his attention back to the screen, hoping to be finished soon. Prompt: Flu + Honey “You work too hard,” Sarah said, handing Ezra a mug and crawling into bed beside him. “You’re going to give yourself the flu.” Ezra rolled his eyes. “It’s just a cold.” “Well, you do need to rest,” she eyed the mug. “It’s tea with honey.” “My favorite,” Ezra hummed as he lifted the mug to his face. His eyes slowly closed as the steam aggravated his sinuses. He quickly moved his elbow to his face to catch the impending sneezes. “ASCHHauuh!" he sniffed hard, his eyes bleary with tears. “After I drink this, I’m going to bed.” “Good,” Sarah said, slipping off the bed. “I’ll be in the living room.” “Okaaaa... Gratitude Prompt: Under the Weather Martha knocked softly on their office door then walked in, holding a cup of tea in her hand and giving Aaron a smile when he glanced from his work. It was the middle of midterms and she knew Aaron was up to his eyes with grading for his classes while keeping up with research. He was awake late at night into the early morning more often than not and she worried about him. Aaron’s brows furrowed. “What are you doing up?” “I could ask you the same thing,” Martha said as she walked to his desk and put the cup down. Her eyes focused on his tired eyes and the pink hue on his nose. “Do you feel alright?” “Of course,” he said before his nose crinkled and his eyes closed. He snapped forward with a sharp breath, pressing his nose to his wrist. “hehh… hehNKTSHh!” he sniffed softly then looked at Martha with glassy eyes. “Maybe I am a bit under the weather.” Prompt: Fever It was worse than having a fever you couldn’t sweat out. Gavin rubbed his nose again, hard, and tried not to sniff. The woman’s perfume was too fruity, too artificial, too cheap, too much. He gripped the strap on his black tote bag tighter when the elevator dinged on the fifth floor then opened. When the woman flipped her hair off her shoulder as she walked out, leaving him alone, Gavin scrunched his nose as the elevator doors closed, feeling the itch burn in his sinuses. His breath caught his throat as his eyes slowly closed while he brought his hands to his face. “Heh-ERSSCHEW! Heh-kTSSCHHEw!” his breath hitched for a moment, the itch teasing to get out before he snapped forward again. “ESSCHEW! Hahhh…ISSCHEW!” It was far too much. Edited February 12, 2017 by ultravioletcas

Gratitude Prompt: Drugs Richard’s eyes itched as they trailed the shelf in front of him, brand name and off-brand allergy medication displayed next to each other. Although the off-brand medication seemed to cost half of what the name-brand was, he knew it never helped matters. He lifted his hand to rub his nose when he heard a friendly voice behind him. “Do you need any help, sir?” “I’m fine,” Richard turned to see a young employee with a red vest and gleaming smile. “But thank you.” The employee nodded. “Well, just so you know, Zyrtec is on sale until Friday.” “Thank you,” Richard repeated. He watched as the employee turned and walked away for a moment until the familiar itch grew in his sinuses. His eyes closed as his breath hitched before he sneezed into his crooked elbow. “Heh… Eh'tsghh! Tsh'ii! Tsh-heh'ghh!!” It was commonplace now and since it was in the middle of May, Richard had months of sinus pressure and itchy eyes ahead. He sniffed hard then grabbed a box of Zyrtec.
