Chanel_no5 Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 ***Note*** This is a quick little oneshot with my OC Angela, whom you've met before in my fic "Red Carpets And Messy Colds" as well as a couple of drabbles. I've been trying to write a longer allergy fic with her, but it just won't sail, so I had to do something else. This turned out to be it. Hope you'll like it. *** “Ah-ikTSHhew! Excuse me.” Angela lowered her arm and turned back towards the table, reaching for her glass of mineral water. Sherri kept looking at her. “What?” Angela said. “I’m sorry, it’s just that I wasn’t expecting you to stop at one. I seriously don’t think I’ve ever heard you sneeze just once.” “Well,” Angela mumbled and her cheeks heated a little, “I just did.” It was the tail end of her spring allergies, and Angela was grateful. It had been unusually bad this year. There had been days of filming when they simply had no choice but halting takes because she was too allergic to make it through an entire take. She had also been forced to cancel one talkshow appearance, and her publicist was still grinding her teeth about it. Sherri knew Angela truly suffered and wasn’t blaming her per say, but she certainly wasn’t shy about showing her annoyance when it affected Angela’s publicity work. “You haven’t considered doing allergy shots instead of those pills that don’t seem to work too well?” Sherri asked as she peered at Angela over the lunch menu. “What? What did I say?” Angela had paled considerably at her suggestion, a look of horror momentarily invading her beautiful face, but it was quickly washed away by a carefully fabricated indifference. Sherri was not to be fooled by the award-winning actress’s acting, though. She knew her too well. Far too well, Angela thought as Sherri began to laugh. “Oh my God, really?” She shook her head, still laughing a bit. “You play a doctor in a long-running TV show and you’re scared of needles?!” “It’s not the same thing,” she muttered. “Also, Jo is an M.E; she does autopsies, not vaccinations.” She shuddered at the word. “So you’d rather sneeze for three months every year than getting a couple of quick injections?” Sherri asked, sounding unconvinced but highly amused. “Yes!” Angela replied with no hesitation. “The only ‘allergy shot’ I’m willing to have is a shot of Tequila to distract me from the misery of being allergic. Can we please order lunch and talk business instead, you know, like we’re here for in the first place?” Sherri took up her cell phone and started tapping the screen. “What are you doing now?” Angela asked. “Just editing my contacts.” “Do I want to know why?” “Probably not.” She grinned as she put it back down. “You’re usually listed as Sneezy.” Angela rolled her eyes. “That’s flattering.” “Now you’re Needles.” “How cute,” Angela said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “That’s what I get for sleeping with my publicist. Ridiculous nicknames.” “And the best promotion opportunities you could possibly get. Don’t forget that part. If your nose would allow you to actually do them, that is.” “Would you like to know what you’re listed as in my phone?” Angela said, ignoring the last sentence and enjoyed Sherri’s surprised look for a moment before filling her in. “French Fries. I have never met anyone who actually wants to take a fry break mid-” The waitress showed up next to their table, ready to take their orders. Without missing a beat, Angela switched gear and, with a pleasant smile, turned to the waitress and said; “I’d like a Caesar salad, don’t hold back on the dressing, and she’s having the Club Sandwich with fries on the side. Thank you.” “What made you think I wanted that order?” “Do you want me to change it?” “No.” “See?” Angela smiled, but then her nose started to itch again and the smile slowly transformed into a tormented pre-sneeze face. Her breath hitched and she had just enough time to find a tissue in her purse before the allergies she thought she had left behind her by the end of May returned for a brief but brutal encore. “HehhhNKKttt! NktSHh! NngXTchew! Heh… heh-aah… aaESSHH! AaISSHH! AaIISHHHoo!” When she opened her watering eyes again, Sherri watched her with raised eyebrows and a little smile playing on her lips. “Bless you. I think I’ll change your contact name back to Sneezy.” “HaaERRSSHHHuh!” Angela sneezed so hard she doubled over, clasping the tissue tightly against her face to contain the wet spray within the delicate sheet of paper. Her nose was tingling, as if, well... pricked by needles. “Yeah. I’m definitely changing it back.” ***
