GhostLily342
So, 2018 has given me a nasty cold to ring in the new year with. I’m not surprised really. I’ve been tracking the progress of this cold as it has gone on, and today feels like the worst day by far, so I’ll take it from the top. My wife and me were staying a few nights with my in-laws. One night I was finding it very difficult to sleep, and I soon figured out why: my throat was a tad sore. My cold suspicions were aroused when I got up to get a drink of water, and my nose immediately started running. Oops. My wife is still recovering from the flu and a possible sinus infection, so the next day demolished what little remained of our pocket tissue supply between her nose blowing and mine. We met my mom and stepdad for Mexican food that night, and although the food was delicious, the spiciness of everything made our noses run even more. I blew into one of my handkerchiefs at the table, and my wife was re-using tissues out of her purse. That night, things started to get a bit more hairy for me. I put one of my last clean handkerchiefs on the nightstand beside me, and several times I had to roll over and use it. Sometimes I sneezed—big, messy singles that damn near drenched the hanky—and other times I just needed to blow my nose to prevent any leakage from getting onto the pillow, and these blows were surprisingly productive. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep last night. This brings me to today, and to some sweet care taking from my wife. As soon as I got up and running, so did my nose. I’m in the stage where my nose is constantly leaking clear, watery stuff. When I took my shower this morning, the steam opened up my sinuses a bit, which made me sneeze more frequently. I probably sneezed 10-12 singles altogether. All this time I’m having to use toilet paper (the cheap, rough sort) to keep from getting snot everywhere, which starting making my nose red and raw almost instantly. My wife wanted us to run some errands today, but she was very sympathetic toward my cold, as she had felt this way not too long ago. I had grabbed some paper towels on the way out the door, and not long after we hit the highway, I had to quickly grab them to catch another messy sneeze. “HhhhhhHUH-CHUH! *sniffle, blow* ughhh...” “Aww, poor baby. I’m sorry you don’t have anything soft to wipe your nose with. Hey, let’s stop at Target first.” It was bitterly cold in the parking lot, and once we got inside, the sudden change in temperature brought forth another sneeze from me into the last of my dry paper towels. They did the job of containing the fury erupting from my nostrils, but they were making those same nostrils quite raw by now. “Heh...HEH-CHOO! *sniff, blow* Oh mby God...” “Oh, bless you honey! Your nose is getting so red already! Let’s get you some Alka Seltzer, tissues, and chapstick. Sound good?” “*Snfff* Yes, please.” She meant every word, bless her heart. Within minutes she had rounded up the medicine, some Burt’s Bees, a bottle of water, and several packs of Puffs Plus tissues. We got pack to the car, and I immediately tore into the tissues and pressed one under my leaking nose. My wife dumped out some of the water, then cracked two Alka Seltzer tabs and dropped them in. As I drank the Alka Seltzer, we headed over to the mall. The medicine seemed to help me stop sneezing, but my nose was still pretty runny. As we walked I blew my nose multiple times, which still hurt a bit, but was much easier with some soft tissues. We got back to the house a little bit ago. I’ll update you all as my cold progresses! GhostLily342
Holy hell. I wrote this ob a few hours before posting it, and since then, a development has occurred: I’m running a 104.7 fever! My nose is still running like a faucet, and even with the better quality tissues, my nose is awful red and raw 🤒🤧 I should re-name this post “Happy New Flu.” Catchy, I think. Link to comment
GhostLily342
Episode 3 At one point last night as I was waiting for my fever to break, I happened to empty the second of the Puffs packs we had bought earlier. When my wife came up to check on me and ask if I needed anything, I did ask for more water, and then holding up the empty tissue pack, said stuffily: “And honey, *snnfff* could you bring mbe another pack of these tissues? They’re od the table downstairs.” “Oh, I think your mom has a big box of Kleenex here somewhere. Want me to just grab you those?” Now technically, she was correct. There was a full sized box of tissues in one of the full bathrooms, but they were the cheap, coarse kind. And with as red and sore as my nose was already, I wasn’t having that. “Ndo, the ones on the table are softer.” “*giggle* They’re just Kleenex’s honey...” “Nduh-uh. The other ones are better. Please?!” “*sigh* Ooookay...” She obliged after that, but honestly, why was that dialogue even necessary? No difference between or among Kleenex’s?? Must I explain the difference between champagne and water next?? Link to comment
GhostLily342
Episode 4 I slept okay through that night, getting up to sneeze and blow my nose a few times. My fever spiked again when I woke up, so I took a cold shower and stayed in bed. My wife and family went New Years Day shopping, and I tried to get some school work done while in bed. I did end up getting some work done, but I might’ve gotten more done if I hadn’t had to constantly be tending to my nose. I took some more cold medicine, which again slowed down the sneezing a bit, but my nose didn’t stop running all morning. I blew through the last of my quality tissues within and hour and a half. I might have gotten up to search out the Kleenex box mentioned by my wife earlier, but by this point, my nose is so raw that I really couldn’t have cared. As I slid out of bed to grab a roll of toilet paper from the nearest bathroom, I felt another sneeze coming on. I shuffled quickly, hitching desperately, knowing that this sneeze would be messy like all the others. As I groped my way into the bathroom, I grabbed a handful of tissue just in time to catch this massive sneeze. “HHUH-CHUHHH!!” I grabbed more tissue to blow my nose, then took the roll and set it next to me on the bed. Something tells me this flu/terrible cold is going to take its time. Link to comment

Alyssa1146
No kidding about being in stores and people sneezing, coughing and sniffling all around you. Part of me wants to wear a surgical mask, and the other part of me is fascinated. Very true that most are probably getting over something or are just starting something and haven't had the brunt of it hit. This is going to be a bad flu season, but a good season for this board probably. Puffs Plus is the bomb of tissue. I hope you feel better but get lots of love for the duration. Something good has to come out of feeling so bad, right? Link to comment
Hankyrick
That happens to me except in workplaces where people are sneezing and coughing around me. Its getting to be a bad season over in the uk too. Link to comment
