Awful head cold (self obs + video)

So I managed to catch another cold 🙄 this one isn’t as bad as the last one, but it’s still pretty bad. It started over the weekend with a scratchy throat and a partially runny nose. Very subtle but typical symptoms. I figured it was just the weather change and didn’t think much of it. Well, I woke up on yesterday morning (Monday) and my nose was completely stuffed up and my head was pounding. I knew exactly what it was so I took some medicine which did nothing. This cold is definitely a head cold. The last one I had was more in my chest, but this one has decided to reside in my sinuses, wreaking havoc on my nose. Luckily I didn’t have class because of the holiday, but I had to go to work. I contemplated calling out, but I didn’t want to leave anyone short handed. My nose tickled all day and I was either on the verge of sneezing or being thrown into a violent fit. It was awful. My boss made me wear a surgical mask so I didn’t “spread germs” to patients or my coworkers which if you’ve never worn one, is basically torture. It’s so hot and stuffy and hard to breathe in. I was already having trouble breathing since my nose was completely clogged but the mask just made it worse. I struggled to get to the end of my shift but finally I somehow made it home. I immediately crawled into bed and didn’t move for the rest of the night. My roommate came into my room for a minute, but left me alone after I told her I didn’t feel well. I get sick often so she’s used to it, although she’s a bit of a germaphobe so when I do get sick, I tend to stick to my room anyway to be respectful (we live in an apartment off campus but they still consider it a dorm). I tried to sleep, but of course my sinuses kept getting in the way. My nose went from being totally blocked to streaming like a faucet. We didn’t have any tissues and I didn’t want to use up all of our toilet paper so I had to use paper towels since we had a bunch from my roommate’s parents. It was so rough on my nose that it chapped it within a few hours of me using it. As the night progressed, my nose went from spewing like a broken fire hydrate to clogged again, this time to the point that it made my face hurt and I couldn’t even sniffle. I had to stifle my sneezes because when I get sick, my sneezes get so loud and I didn’t want to wake up my roommate since our rooms are right next to each other’s. Each stifle sent a shooting pain into my head and down through my whole body. I was able to muffle most of my sneezes into my blanket, although a few escaped. I finally went to bed around 4am and had to be up at 8am for my 9am class today. I felt even worse than I did last night. At first I thought I was running a high fever, but I checked and it was only 100.1 . I didn’t have any chills or anything so I decided to muster up the strength and go to class because attendance is mandatory. My morning class is a two hour lecture and even though I was there, mentally I wasn’t. I was still extremely congested and my head was pounding so hard that it made almost impossible to concentrate. My nose held off for the most part and I only let out two or three sneezes. I did fall asleep at one point but I don’t remember for how long. I don’t think it was super long though because I was only a few slides behind when I woke up. I ended up skipping my afternoon lab today because I just couldn’t do it. I emailed my professor and she was kind enough to excuse me for the day. I think she really just didn’t want me coming to class because everyone on campus has been sick and it’s just now starting to go away. I came back to the apartment and went back to bed and have been wrapped up in my blankets ever since. My roommate was nice enough to get me some more medicine from the store and she also got me tissues and Lysol as a joke, which I enjoyed. I’ve taken so much medicine today that I feel kind of “high”. I can’t tell if the medicine is working or I’m just loopy from taking so much. I’ll give updates as they come, but for now I’m just going to stick to my bed and Netflix 😕
