Disaster Control

Just an idea I had rolling around in my brain for a couple of hours before my brain was like; Okay either write this down or I'm deleting this, so this cute little blurb was born. If people really like it I will make a second part.

~

Molly was reading off her order making sure that all the food was there before she took it out when he caught her eye. She let out a long drawn out sigh, searching the room for someone who could take over for her, “Alice!” She called out to another waitress.

Alice looked over confused for a moment but not for long quickly realizing what was happening, “I’ve got it you go run disaster control.” She told Molly immediately taking over, gathering up her order.

Molly quickly made her way across the room, snagging a paper towel along the way, towards Mark one of the waiters working today.

The poor many were the picture of allergic misery as it was clear that now out of the sight of customers, he was starting to lose control over his nose, his eyes squeezed shut, tears leaking out as his breath hitched out of control.

She took hold of the stacks of dishes he was carrying, pressing a crumpled napkin over his mouth and nose just in time for him to snap forward harshly, “Hh'itTSCHhu'uh!” Mark sighed, taking the napkin blowing his nose miserably.

Molly chuckled putting the dishes aside to be washed, “Mark my sweet, you are one of the hardest working waiters I’ve ever seen, but in spring you are a walking disaster, love.” She teased light-heartedly, “Did you take your medicine this morning?” She asked.

Mark snorted stuffily rubbing his teary red eyes, tiredly with the palm of his hand, “Yeah.” He mumbled, “Just a terrible allergy day.”

She chewed her lip; sure, she’d heard the pollen count was high today, but Mark’s meds usually took care of the worst of it. The manager wasn’t in that day, so she was an acting manager, so she’d been busy most the morning, performing those duties along with her own waitressing duties.

Molly was just now realizing she really hadn’t gotten a good look at Mark that day.

The poor man was a sorry sight for sore eyes, his nose was flushed a brilliant red and peeling at the edges from the abuse it’d take that day, his eyes were watery and rubbed red. He looked like he belonged in an allergy commercial not working in a restaurant. But something caught her eye.

“Are you sure it’s just allergies, sweetie?” Molly asked, “You’re looking a little peaky today.” She asked bringing the back of her hand to Mark’s forehead, frowning.

Mark’s breath snagged, and he shoved her hand away cupping his own around his mouth and nose snapping forward, “"Hh'tSchhu-uh! hh. Hhih!! Hh? hh'iTSCZUH!!” He sniffled wetly, breathing heavily through his mouth since his nose was useless at this point, not daring to remove his hands.

Snagging a few tissues Molly awkwardly maneuvered them between his hands so that he could get himself cleaned up, “You felt a little warm.” She mumbled, seeing Alice come back into the kitchen, “Alice could you…”

“Say no more I’ll hold down the fort. “The girl answered, “You take care of lover boy over there.” Alice said, and Molly nodded glad that she could count on her. She led Mark back to the manager's office.

~

Once she got him inside the office, she sat him on the couch, going to the desk searching the drawers for the thermometer she knew her boss kept.

Mark slumped back against the couch exhausted tilting his head back resting his eyes, “Ah Hah!” Molly exclaimed when she found what she was looking for. Mark peeled his itchy eyes open watching her walk over to him, small digital thermometer in hand,” Open.” She instructed, and he complied letting her slide the cool plastic under his tongue.

Molly waited until the thermometer beeped, and she removed it frowning at the numbers, “One Hundred and two.” She mumbled to herself, having to re-think her plan of action.

Usually, employees would be just sent home, but Molly knew for a fact that Mark lived nearby, so he regularly walked to work to save on gas, but even if he’d driven, she didn’t know if she’d be keen on having him drive with a 102-degree fever.

As an acting manager, she had to decide, Mark was already looking sick at the idea of having to find a way home, “Okay so here’s what’s going to happen.” Molly told him, “You are going to stay here and relax on this couch, and I am going to drive you home after work.”

This brought a little color back into his cheeks, as the poor boys face flushed bright red with shame, “Mbolly, you really dodn’t have to do thadt…” He mumbled.

“Nope.” She cut him off, “As an acting manager there’s no way I can confidently send you home not knowing for sure if you’ll be safe.” Molly grinned, “So sorry sweetie you are stuck with me.”

Mark smiled softly, “I cadn thignk of worsdt thigngs.” He said submitting to his fate laying down on the couch closing his eyes.

Molly flushed bright pink not sure what he meant by that but she didn’t have time to ponder the thought, she’d already between away from work long enough.

She left the room glancing back one last time before she got back to work.

I like this, and would very much like to see what that potential part two might bring :)

I especially liked this little bit.

If you feel inspired to write more with these characters I'd also love to read about a bad allergy day when it is actually the allergies.

Slightly off topic, but your username makes me smile whenever I see it pop up somewhere around the forum ^_^

More on topic: I loved the part with the thermometer, how she's checking and talking about his fever.

And his sneezes were great! They sounded so mercyless and itchy, so desperate, strong and a little wet. Really loved those spellings and would like to second, what helyzell said: I'd you ever feel inspired to write more, I'm looking forward to read another part 😊

Yeah, I might do more of these character's they're cute, just let me know if you have any prompt in specific you want to see or if you just want me to work off of what comes out of my brain.

I already have a couple of ideas of where I want part two to go I just have to flesh it out some more in my brain before I type it up.

I also really like that part because I really just like how Molly talks to him, she's got a little bit of sass while also finding him a bit endearing at the same time as she teases him. She just felt human to me. And then having Mark after that just miserable suffering, with not only allergies but a bug brewing, it just felt like everything went together really well.

Thanks for reading!!! :)

Off topic: Thanks, it's a reference to Apollo Justice from the Ace Attorney games, people refer to him as a chicken or a chicken nugget. But you probably already knew that, but just in case you didn't, he's my profile icon.

On topic: Lol,  I like the parts that you guys are looking at because this literally just started with the idea of what if a waiter had to sneeze, but couldn't because he'd break everything. Everything else fell into place as I plotted it out in my head.

My favorite part to write was the part where she sees him and sort of recognizes that if she doesn't step in there's going to be a disaster and so many broken plates. Just because it's fun to have a character that's normal competent and good at their job and suddenly an allergy or cold makes them a walking disaster.

I'm actually glad you liked the thermometer part because I'm not always super confident in how I describe things because I feel like I use too much or too little description and not enough dialogue.

I do have a couple of ideas for a second part but I have to flesh them out in my brain first before I type them up, so stay tuned.

Thanks for reading!!! :)

Another short little part, I might write some later today depending on if I can think of how to continue from here. If anyone has any ideas they're welcome.

~

Mark laid in the office groaning cover his flushed face with his hands, “I cadn thignk of worsdt things?” He grumbled, “How cheesy cadn you possibly get?” He asked himself.

He couldn’t help himself though, Molly was just so confident, and pretty and smart…”Agh.” He cried, “Stop thignking like that you giadnt dork!” He scolds himself, squeaking a little when he heard the door to the office open.

Alice cackled as she walked, “Calm down lover boy, it’s just me.” She told him, “You can continue your little freak out session.” She teased, leaning against the wall casually.

Mark sighed relieved, slinging an arm over his eyes dramatically, “Oh thagnk god.” He mumbled, peeking out from under his arm, “Waidt a minute aredn’t you suppose be oudt on the floor?” He asked.

“I’m on break.” Alice answered, “Molly asked me to check on you.” She told him, “You know she’d probably go out with you if you asked her, or she’d find a way to let you down gently.” She grinned.

Mark rolled his eyes, “Oh thagnks Alice thadt’s a real confidence, boosdter.” He grumbled, rolling onto his side, feeling sorry for himself.

“I’m just teasing you, don’t be so dramatic.” Alice told him sitting on the small coffee table in front of the couch, “Molly has to like you; otherwise, she wouldn’t put up with your sick ass.”

Mark looked up at Alice with his pathetic puppy dog eyes, “You really thingk so?” He asked, and Alice groaned loudly.

“Of course I do, now stop looking at me like that and blow your damn nose.” She groused, turning away from him, “I’ve got to get back to work, try not to drown in your own snot.” Alice waved before leaving.

~

Mark woke up a little later to someone shaking him gently, he didn’t remember falling asleep, and he sure didn’t feel like he’d rested at all. His head throbbed, and his mouth tasted gross and felt dry.

Cracking his bleary eyes open he was welcome by Molly’s familiar freckled face, her eyebrows turned up with worry, “Hey there big guy. “She said, brushing his sweat-soaked bangs from his fevered face, “It’s closing time, let's get you, home love.”

Mark nodded, sitting up having to close his eyes for a moment as the congestion in his head shifted, making the world around him spin. That wasn’t the only thing it did, as his breath fluttered a prickle again in his sinuses, this cold seeming to want to make him as miserable as it possibly could.

“Hih-?” His breath started to hitch, the sneeze building slow, like molasses torturing his stuffy irritated nose, making it run sluggishly and his eyes water, “Hih-hah-TSHZUuuh!” Mark sneezes, feeling his nose press into something soft.

When he opens his eyes, he’s met with white, taking a minute to realize that it’s a tissue blowing his nose with little prompting, letting the gentle hand help take care of the mess, “Poor thing.” Molly mumbled, pressing a couple of pills into his hand having him take them with a sip of water, before helping him up, letting him lean heavily on her, “Let's get you home, sweet.” She said, leading him outside.

Mark whined when they got outside, scrubbing at his cherry red nose with the palm of his hand.

His allergy meds had worn off ages ago, so now the pollen in the warm night air was assaulting his miserable cold ridden nose, “I know.” Molly murmured sympathetically, “We’re almost to the car.” She said, rubbing his back.

She hurried him into her beat up little Subaru, keeping the windows rolled up blasting the air conditioning, hoping it helped some. Molly could feel a tug at her heartstrings, when she heard his breath hitching, “Tissues are in the glove box.” She told him.

Mark snuffled stuffily, blindly feeling around through hitching breaths throwing open the glove box, snatching the package of tissues tearing it open, sneezing before he could get on out, “Hih-ZZSHIieuw!” His mouth was still agape, as he tugged a tissue from its plastic prison, pressing it hastily over his mouth and nose, sneezing harshly, “Hah-Ahah-ASHIieuw! ISh-ish-ISHIEeuw!” He gasps flopping back in the seat, trying to regain his breath tissue still over his nose.

He eventually found the energy to sit up and blow his nose, “Bless you.” Molly said, starting the car pulling out of her parking spot. Mark rubbed his forehead yawning, sniffling leaning his feverish face against the cold car window, letting his tired eye slip close.

I’m loving the congested writing in this story!

Sorry it took me forever to update this Fic but here's another part w/ Mark and Molly. Molly's just kind of fussing. Not quite sure where to go from here, maybe Mark should wake up before Molly gets home, any ideas for what should happen next are welcome.

Molly pulled into a parking spot outside of Mark’s apartment complex. Glancing over at her passenger, she giggle as Mark was currently snoring away, drooling a little.

He was pretty cute, she thought to herself, even as a snoring snotty mess. Molly felt bad that she had to wake him up when he was sleeping so soundly, but she had to get him into bed.

She shook his shoulder gently, and Mark snorted coughing harshly, as Molly rubbed his back, “Easy love.” She said, as his cough eventually eased up and he slumped against her with a groan, “I know you’re exhausted, let’s get you up to your apartment and in bed.”

Molly helped Mark out of the car, letting him lean on her as they began their slow treck up to his apartment, letting him rest a couple times along the way to catch his breath or release a wrenching sneeze.

When they got to his door, he fumbled for his key, almost dropping them a couple of times before she gently took them from his trembling hands, unlocking the door with them.

They only made it to the couch, Mark slumped down onto the soft cushions with an exhausted moan, “Thagk you so buch for drivigg be.” He croaked, “I dod’t dow if I would have beed able to get hobe without you.”

“Oh, it’s really not that big of a deal,” Molly said, rubbing the back of her neck, “Anyone decent person would have done it.” She told him, smiling.

“Well, at least let be get you sobethigg to drigk.” Mark said, “Maybe sobe tea?” He offered, his head spinning as soon as he got to his feet.

Molly pushed him back down onto the couch, “How about I go and make us both tea.” She told him, disappearing into his kitchen before Mark could protest.

Mark slumped back onto the couch, blowing air out of his mouth slowly, letting his flushed face fall into his hands as he felt embarrassment creep upon him. This wasn’t exactly how he wanted Molly to see him.

Mark was sure he was making a mess of himself in front of her, at least she hadn’t run the other way when he’d started getting sick like most girls, but maybe it was just because she pitied him.

He sat up a bit straighter when Molly brought in two mugs of tea, she sat down next to him, pressing the warm cup into Mark's hand, “ There you go, honey and lemon in it just in case you have a sore throat.” She told him.

“Thagnks.” He smiled, sipping the warm liquid, sighing as the heat soothed his aching throat. Mark sniffled, feeling the steam start to break up the congestion in his sinuses, as his nose begins to leak steadily, “Oh jeez.” He mumbled, covering his nose as he looked for a box of tissues.

Molly was a step ahead of him, tugging a tissue from the box, tucking it into his hand,” Here.” She said, smiling, “Bless you.” She told him, watching him paw at his nose.

Mark’s breath hitched sluggishly as buzzing itch at the back at his nose, slowly began to crawl through his nose, like someone had stuck a feather in his nose, and just left it there to torture him, “Hh’Ihh…” His breath snagged as he scrubbed at his nose before he couldn’t stop sneezing now he couldn’t get it to come out,”Combe odn…” He mumbled, scrunching, and wiggling his nose.

Watching him struggle, it became clear to Molly that he wouldn’t be able to get this sneeze out…not without a little help at least.

Hesitantly she glided her nail gently down the septum of his cherry-red nose his nostrils flaring widely in response as his breath snagged once more, “Hh’hah’IHh’…” Chewing her lip Molly continued, just barely tracing the inside of his left nostril with her nail, but that was apparently enough to tip him over the edge.

The first one came out so fast that he barely had time to bring the tissue up to cover, three more loud sneezes following it.“Hih’HA’ASHIieuw! ISHIiew! ISHiew! Hah’APSHIieuw!” He panted, trying to catch his breath, slumping forward with his head between his knees feeling a bit dizzy.

Molly rubbed his back, passing him a few more tissues waiting for the dizziness to pass,” Alright, let's get you to bed.” She said, helping him stumble to the bedroom, tucking him under the blankets. It wasn’t long before he was out cold, this bug sapping most of his energy.

Sighing Molly chewed on her lip, she really didn’t want to leave Mark alone since he was clearly miserable, and nowhere near being able to take care of himself.

So grabbing her car keys, along with the key to his apartment, she ducked out planning on getting some supplies to take care of her miserably sick co-worker, hoping he didn’t wake up before she got back.
