Hi everyone! This is my first ever shot at original fiction and I’m really excited to give it a go!

so, these are my characters:

Alexander: A French foreign exchange student that comes to England for college. He’s got pale skin and sandy blonde hair with freckles and blue eyes. You can use your imagination for the rest.

Dominic: An English college student who’s housing Alexander. He’s got a pale/medium skin tone and auburn hair. Don’t forget the green eyes ;)

Chasing the Stars

Part 1

———————

Alexander cracked open his eyes as sunlight streamed into the window. Even though it had

been a month since he’s moved in with Dominic he’s still always caught by surprise when he

wakes up in a different bed. Upon waking up Alex felt a dull ache settling in his head, and

overall fatigue through his body. His throat was a little raw too, and every time he swallowed it

cried out as if in pain. That’s another good thing about England: there’s always tea laying

around. Alex strolled out to the kitchen finding Dominic there stirring some mixture in a bowl.

“Good morning, Alex,” Dominic said with a strangely energetic tone for this hour of the

day. “Bonjour, Dom, what are you making there?” he asked, his French accent laced with

sleep. “Pancakes,” Dominic said happily stirring away at the mixture. “I haven’t had pancakes in

a really long time,” Alex remarked. “How have you survived?” Dominic practically shouted. Well,

that’s at least what it sounded like in Alex’s ears. He winced, his headache pulsing through his

head. Determined not to let Dominic find out he put on a smile. “je mange de la brioche,” Alex

said, forgetting to speak in English. “Sorry, I don’t speak French,” Dominic said, more as a

reminder to switch back to English. Alex blushed, glancing away from Dominic as he repeated

himself. “I eat brioche,” he said, quieter. “You can eat a brush for breakfast?” Dominic asked.

“No, brioche. It’s a French baguette with butter,” Alex explained with a smile. Alex’s nose had

been bothering him all morning. He sniffed quietly hoping the itch would go away.

Unfortunately quite the opposite happened. “Excuse m—h-huh—huh’ISH’ieww! h’tsh’eww!” Alex

turned away from his friend, bringing his sweatshirt sleeve up to his face. “Bless you,” Dominic

said, looking up in surprise. He hasn’t expected that from the rather quiet boy. “Merci,” he said,

his French picking up again. “Have you got any of those little tea things on a string?” Alex axed,

trying his best to explain his request. “Oh—teabags. Sure, in the drawer to your left,” Dominic

said, gesturing to the general

area. “Wow! There’s so many—h—hn—many—huh—h’itsch’EWW! h’ESH’eww! tsch’EWW! So

many choices,” he finally finished, voice already growing shot. “Bless you,” Dominic said.

“Merci—h’ESH’eww! “And again,” the British man said, but it was practically pointless because

Alex had already broken off into a muffled coughing fit.

“Are you feeling okay?” Dominic asked. “1-Why wouldn’t I be?” Alex asked, carefully

choosing his actions as he continued to make tea. “Well...I don’t know—you just seem a little

drained is all,” Dominic said, beginning to pour the batter onto the pan.

0“Just a late night is all,” he replied, sipping his freshly made cup of tea. He closed his eyes, relishing warm tea against his throat.

“Yeah, yeah...whatever,” Dominic said, waving him off, “pancakes are ready. Want some?”

The thought of eating anything made Alex’s stomach churn, but not eating nothing would be an

obvious sign that he was sick and Dominic could not find out. He had done enough for him

already, the last thing he needed to do was force him to take care of him like a child. “Yeah,

sure,” Alex said, reluctantly accepting the offer. He grimaced at the thought of

eating, but his mind pushed him to eat a pancake. Alex was half done with the pancake before

Dominic looked back over. “You forgot the syrup, silly,” he said, pouring some on his plate.

“Oh...silly me,” Alex said, laughing nervously. He rested his head in his hands, closing his

eyes for a second. Pretending to be fine was a harder feat than he thought. “Alex?” Dominic

asked, shaking his friend. Alex jumped up at the touch, his head spinning as a result.

“Pardon...as I was saying it was a late night,” Alex tried to explain himself, letting out a yawn to

make his act more convincing. (Pardon = sorry)  “Late night my ass,” Dominic said, coming over

to his friend. He put the back of his hand up to his friend’s forehead. “Hmm...you feel a bit

warm. Why didn’t you tell me you didn’t feel good?” Dominic asked, looking a bit hurt.

“Look...Dom...you’ve done enough for me. I don’t need to cause any more

complications...” Alex said, his blue eyes averting shyly.  “Alex, don’t talk like that! I’m your

friend and friends help friends.” “:That’s real nice—h—huh’ITSH’eww!” Alex sneezed softly into

his sleeve, the event rocking him forward in his chair. “Why don’t you get back to bed?” Dominic

proposed. Alex headed over to the couch instead, curling up with a blanket.Hey...Dom?” he

called out softly. “Yeah?” he asked coming over to his French friend. “Pancakes are pretty

good,” he said, smiling. His eyes were shut, but he was stil listening for a response. “There'll be

some waiting for you when you get better,” Alex said, returning the smile.

Alex was forced to sit up as he broke into another flurry of coughing. Dominic went to get him a

glass of water, but by the time he returned Alex was fast asleep, snoring softly. “Sleep tight,” he

whispered, turning down the volume on the tv. He settled himself on the couch next to Alex,

opening up the lid of his laptop. After all, college essays did not write themselves.

So, this was my first go at original fiction and I’m really reallyyyyy enjoying it :)
Props to you who consistently come up with brand new ideas to present as its much harder than writing for a fandom.

I plan to have have multiple parts in this fic, as well as incorporate any ideas you guys would like to see. Anything is welcome!

I incorperated some French into this as Alex is a native speaker, so after every line of French I’ll put in parenthesis it translated into English ☺️

I also apologize in advance as I do not speak French nor have I ever took a class on t, so if I’m using incorrect terminology I deeply apologize as I do not intend to offend anyone. 😅

hope you enjoyed!

Here’s my ideas of what the boys would look like:

Chasing the Stars

Part 2

———————————————————————————————————————————————

okay so first off thank you so much for the wonderful support! Second off I really apologize for the awkward format- didn’t mean for that happen 😅

***there’s not much sneezing in this part, just plot development.

anyways on with the story! 👇

———————————————————————————————————————————————

At some point Dominic must have drifted off because he found himself suddenly jolting awake to the sound of coughing.

”Alex?” Dominic asked with a concerned voice.

”I’m okay,” he choked out, reaching for the glass of water on the coffee table.

”Gotta remember to breathe, man,” Dominic said light-heartedly.

”Have any other suggestions, Doctor Dominic?” Alex asked with an eye roll.

Dominic looked up from his laptop screen.

“Well I’m no professional, but you look like you need some more sleep,” he added with a huff of laughter.

Alexander looked like he had a smart comment or remark to offer in return, but instead he was caught off guard by hitching breaths.

h—huh’ESH’eww! tsh’IEWW!”

“Bless you,” Dominic offered sympathetically, handing the man a tissue.

”Merci,” Alex said, sniffing thickly.

“I’ve gotta run out and get a few things at the market. Want anything?” Dominic offered.

”I-I’m okay—huh’ISH’eww! ETCH’eww! h’ASH’eww!”

“Looks like I’ll need to add tissues to the shopping list,” Dominic said with a small smile.

“Yeah, yeah,” Alex said, sighing deeply. He really hated being such an inconvenience. That and the pain in his head.

”Bless you,” Dominic said suddenly.

”huh? What do you mea—huh’ishh’eww!” He looked over to Dominic in disbelief.

“How’d you know?”

”Psychic powers,” Dominic said with a sly grin. In all reality the vacant look on his face said enough.

Alex readjusted the blanket around his frame, seemingly uncomfortable.

”Hey—are you gonna be okay while I’m gone?” Dominic asked worriedly.

“Of course. I’m not in preschool,” Alex said with an eye roll. Through it all he wore a small smile on his face to indicate there was no malice in his tone.

“Oh right...I almost forgot,” Dominic said jokingly, “you can help yourself to anything you want while I’m gone.”

”Thanks,” Alex said, settling back down in his previous position.

Dominic walked out the door to his bike. He would drive, but it was a warm day and he really hated being in cars.

He gripped his handlebars tightly, waiting for his chance to cross the street. The cars that whirred by practically stopped his heart, but somehow his legs finally found the strength to peddle.

The market was a decently quick trip, Dominic finding himself standing at the register before he knew it.

”Gotta cold?” the cashier asked, sympathetically looking at Dominic.

”Actually it’s my friend,” he said sweetly.

”Well, tell them I say feel better,” she said, pulling at her blonde ponytail.

”Thank you,” he said, grabbing the bags. He readjusted his glasses before slipping the bags over the handlebars. The first time he attempted this it was quite the balancing act, but he was used to it now.

As he peddled back he wondered how Alex was doing. It must feel weird to be in a new country, without anyone you really know. Being sick must suck.

Dominic knew how it felt to be alone. His parents were always too busy for things like taking care of him when he was sick. His older brother Grayson always took care of that.

Dominic took a quick detour from the direction of his flat, zooming down the sidewalk in the direction of the shops, weaving in and out of the planted trees.

He stopped once he reached the bakery. It was a small shop with a sign that read “Bonbon.” It was a mainly French bakery, lined with the confections of France.

Dominic set his bike against the side of the building, walking in the doors.

”Bonjour! Welcome to Bonbon!” the shop owner said, casting a bright smile in Dominic’s direction.

“Hi there,” Dominic said, looking around wide-eyed. This would be harder than he thought.

“Got any ideas on what you’d like?” the woman said, the same bright smile plastered on her face. It was almost like someone painted it on.

”I’m not really sure...what’s your most popular thing?” Dominic asked.

”Ah, that is between our macarons and our Mille-feuille.”

”What’s the last thing you said?” Dominic said, not even attempting to pronounce the nonsense that just came out of her mouth.

”The Mille-feuille? It’s pretty much vanilla custard filling in between puff pastry. We also add intricate chocolate designs on top to make every bite enjoyable,” she said as if she were running on at least ten cups of straight caffeine.

“Hmm...I guess I’ll take both of those then,” Dominic said. This better be right; he couldn’t risk making a fool out of himself in front of Alex. He got the neat white box from the woman, tied off with a lovely pink bow.

”Thank you,” she called after him as he exited through the door.

”Merci,” he said, that probably being the only French word he picked up on from Alex.

Dominic clumsily peddled home balancing groceries and the pastries in his lap. He sighed in relief when his flat came back into view.

Dominic carefully opened the door, walking up the wooden steps with the bags.

”Alex, I’m home,” he called out, setting down the stuff in the kitchen.

Dominic made his way into the living room, looking for his new flatmate.

He bent down to pick up the empty water glass off of the floor when he noticed a white slip of paper peeking out from under a vase.

He carefully unfolded the creased paper, examining it thoroughly.

Hello Dom,

Just went for a quick walk in the park. Needed to get some fresh air.

— A

“Shit.” Dominic felt his stomach drop. The kid could be anywhere—he was in no condition to go out on his own.

He quickly sprinted out the door to get on his bike. He didn’t no where to start, his mind moving a mile a minute.

Luckily his legs once again knew where to peddle.

Sorry again that there wasn’t much sneezing in this installment—don’t worry there will be more :)

Thanks for everyone’s support! 💗

Just in case you’ve never seen these desserts before, or forget what they look like here are what the treats that Dominic picked up would look like:

Chasing the Stars

Part 3

———————————————————————————————————————————————

Dominic peddled hard to the park, being the only place Alex mentioned. He circled around on the sidewalk watching children climb up stairs and whirl down the sliding board.

The once blue sky was growing cloudy, the lovely shade of blue covered by a wave of grey.

He about gave up when he noticed an outline of a boy sitting on one of the benches with their knees up to their chest. The figure had a sweatshirt hood covering their face, but Dominic had no doubt it was his friend.

Dominic walked over to Alex, not really sure what to say. Did he want to be alone or did he need someone?

Um...hey, Alex, I saw your note...” Dominic said, awkwardly trailing off.

The boy looked up, blue eyes clouded over from their normal shine. He was pale as a sheet mind the blush that covered his cheeks. Dominic suspected a fever.

”Sorry I ran away, it’s just—“ his thought got cut off short by hitching breaths. “h—h’ISH’eww! tsh’EWW! h’ESH’uhh!” Alex sniffed thickly in the aftermath, whining softly as he titled his head back against the bench.

”Bless you. Are you okay?” Dominic asked, growing concerned. Sure, the guy wasn’t the most bubbly, but this was quiet even for him.

“Yes I’m f—h’ISH’eww!” Alex was bent at the waist coughing harshly. “Okay, baybe I’mb nodt the best,” he admitted through a congested voice.

“Look—about earlier...it’s hard to feel pain and not have the usual people to go to, you know?” Alex said, staring at the ground. Raindrops slowly cascaded from the sky, plopping down near Alex’s shoes.

Dominic was about to comment how he’d always be there for him, but closed his mouth after thinking about it. Alex was talking about his mom. Dominic smiled sadly; he never knew what it was like to have a mom like that. One who’s there to give you hugs and tell you everything will be okay.

“I’m sorry, Alex,” Dominic said, coming over to sit next to his friend. He put his arm around his shivering frame, Alex surprisingly welcoming the touch.

Dominic smiled to himself as he felt the weight of Alex’s head fall on his shoulder.

”Merci, Dom,” Alex said sleepily.

“For what?” Alex asked, confused as to what he needed to be thanked for. All he did was what anybody would do.

”Everything,” he said with a true sincerity that went deeper than going shopping for him.

Dominic tensed when he heard Alex inhale sharply thinking he may start crying. Dominic was terrible with those types of situations and had no idea what to say as a source of comfort.

h—he’kish’EWW!” huh’ESH’eww!” Alex turned away from his friend, burying his face in his sleeve.

“Bless you,” Dominic said sympathetically.

“*Désolé pour ça,” Alex said, blushing a little. It was hard to tell the difference between the boy’s raging fever and embarrassment. *(Sorry about that).

“You know you don’t have to apologize,” Dominic said to his friend with a smirk.

”How’d you know I was apologizing...I thought you couldn’t speak French.”

”I can’t. Just seems like something you would do,” Dominic said with a sheepish grin. This put a smile on Alex’s face.

The steady raindrops picked up in pace, and if it was even possible it looked like the sky grew darker.

”We should probably get home—the rain isn’t going to help with your cold.”

Alex nodded in agreement, involuntarily shivering hence it be the middle of spring.

Dominic noticed, of course, but he figured the man had been called out enough.

Dominic started wheeling his bike by his side so he could walk with Alex, but the man was remarkably slower, constantly falling behind.

h’AESH’eww! huh’ESH’eww! h—h’tshh’ieww!”

“Bless you,” Dominic said, growing concerned.

“Merci,” Alex choked out before succumbing to a coughing fit.

“Hop on,” Dominic said to his friend.

”W—What?”

”Get on the back of my bike. We’ll go much faster this way,” Dominic said.

Alex was too sick to blush over wrapping his arms around his friend, gripping on tight.

By the time they reached the flat no one had said a word the entire time. Dominic had figured that he simply didn’t want to discuss his ailments any further, but on closer inspection the boy turned out to be asleep.

Dominic felt bad as he shook his friend awake, but there was no way to get inside otherwise.

Alex finally made his way in on shaky legs, even a little too unstable for a sick person. Dominic hovered close behind in fear that the boy would crumble down any minute.

Alex beelined for the couch, while Dominic followed.

”You good, sport?” Dominic asked, resting a hand on the back of his forehead. The heat that radiated back would be more worrying if they hadn’t just spent the afternoon in the rain.

Alex nodded, resting his head in his hands.

”Hey, I know what’ll cheer you up,” Dominic said cheekily.

Despite the headache that returned to Alex’s head, he looked up at his friend.

Doninic returned with the white box from Bonbon.

”I know it’s not as good as the real stuff, but I thought that hopefully it was good enough,” Dominic said, opening the box so that the boy could see.

He watched the smile spread over his friend’s face.

”Dominic—you really didn’t have to do this—h’ETSH’eww! huh’aesh’EWW! ‘ESHH’eww!”

“Bless you. It was the least I could do for you,” Dominic said.

”Merci,” Alex replied.

“*Vous êtes le bienvenu,” Dominic attempted in a poor French accent.(You’re welcome).

Alex smiled at the attempt. It was as if he spent all day just trying to get that one line down.

The rest of the evening consisted of laughing and talking, Alex drifting in and out of sleep. It was then he knew that he’d be okay here with Dominic, and he couldn’t be luckier if he’d tried.

———————————————————————————————————————————————

Thanks again for all the feedback guys! Hope you enjoyed! 💗

***Disclaimer: As I’ve said before, I DO NOT speak French or learn it as a class. If my usage of French vocabulary is incorrect I apologize, as I have no way of knowing what’s right and wrong—sorry if anyone feels offended by it 😬
