remmyrose Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 This past weekend, my boyfriend, T, and I decided to get away a little bit and stay in another town with some friends. Usually T has moderate-ish spring allergies - itchy eyes, runny nose, some sneezing - which can be kept under control with just a Zyrtec or Claritin in the morning. Now that it's summer, though, he hasn't had many allergy symptoms in a few weeks and has stopped taking the medicine, so he didn't think to take them on our trip. On Saturday evening we settled in, and immediately T's eyes began to itch and nose began to run. He had sat down on the bed in the room we were staying in, rubbing at his eyes and groaning. "Ugh, I thought I was over this already this is so annoying," he whined. His eyes looked watery and irritated and his nostrils were twitching a little. T is a pretty expressive sneezer. He never holds back or stifles, and can let out some huge, full body sneezes especially if his nose starts to itch badly. I was woken up on Sunday morning by T sneezing a double. It wasn't loud (I think he was trying not to wake me or anyone else in the house), but was definitely strong. hehCHEW! HAchooo! We were lying close enough together that I could feel his body snap forward with each sneeze. He was facing away from me, and I rolled over to him. "Bless you." He turned on his back and turned his head to look at me, bringing his hand up to rub his eyes and then nose. He kept sniffling a little, and I was a little too excited to go back to sleep, so I reached out and pulled him over to lay on my chest/shoulder. He laid kind of face down with his head resting against my shoulder/bicep. Within a minute, he began to sniffle harder, but couldn't untangle his arms to reach a hand out to scratch his nose. Usually he'll fight off a tickle by rubbing his nose, twitching it, or flaring his nostrils, but he couldn't fight this one off. He raised himself up off my shoulder and turned his head away from me ahhhscheww! He turned back, sniffling more, laying his head back down. Not 15 seconds later, he lifted his head again, but wasn't able to turn his head all the way before letting out another ehCHEWW! right into my arm. "Ugh I'm sorry I just sneezed on you," he said, sniffling more. I told him it was okay and he snuggled into my shoulder still sniffling. A minute later he lifted his head and said, "I need to get a tissue." He walked over to the bathroom, grabbing a tissue and blowing his nose hard. After he blew his nose, he began mulling about in his bag for a shirt to put on. I was watching his face as he began to flare his nostrils and scrunch his nose up, trying to fight off another set of sneezes. haaaCHEWW! the first one exploded out of him while he was still bent over rifling through his bag. heh.. HAAA he began hitching, standing up straighter in anticipation of the next sneeze HAAAshiEWW! haHHHCHOO! eh...hehh..CHEWW! HAAACHEWWW! Breath hitching again, T turned to walk to the bathroom so he could blow his nose again. I heard him grab a tissue but didn’t immediately hear nose blowing. ASCHEWW! He sneezed again into the tissue, then blew his nose. The rest of the morning passed in similar fashion - T just could not stop sneezing. He also had very itchy, watery eyes, and eventually I had to seek out some allergy medicine so he could get some relief. Pretty terrible for him, but pretty great for me :)
