Songs that are NOT about colds/sneezing except in your head

There have been some great threads about songs that mention colds or sneezing...but what about songs that don't, except in your head they do? Got any songs that you choose to mishear or reinterpret so they are about our favorite topic? Here are a few of mine:

Panama by Van Halen has the lyric "Hot shoe, burning down the avenue" which in my head is clearly "Achoo, burning down the avenue" There's a part of "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin where he's going "Ah, ah, ahh, ahhhhh..." and he is obviously fighting a sneeze.

Anything about someone being drunk and needing help is actually about them being sick. Like Hey Jealousy by the Gin Blossoms:

Tell me do you think it'd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight
You can see I'm in no shape for driving
And anyway I've got no place to go

Sometimes songs about being in love can also sound like being sick, Like "Real Real Gone" by Van Morrison:

Real real gone
I can't stand up by myself
Don't you know I need your help
And I'm real, real gone

Or Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer:

Your heart sweats, your body shakes
Another kiss is what it takes
You can't sleep, you can't eat
There's no doubt, you're in deep
Your throat is tight, you can't breathe
Another kiss is all you need

Or this one from Surrender by Cheap Trick, which is hilarious, but could be about a cold rather than venereal disease:
Mother told me, yes, she told me I'd meet girls like you.
She also told me, "stay away, you'll never know what you'll catch."

Clearly I've been in a classic rock groove on Spotify! Share your intentionally misheard/misinterpreted lyrics here!

Okay, so, my mind is an admittedly weird place and some connections I make are very far-fetched to others, but I have some that I think can make sense to others as well.  No mishearing here, just interpretation going haywire.

Alan Walker - Love. I first heard this song when I was getting super into my Westworld OTP Bernard and Theresa and it just seemed to fit them. Also I like her with colds. So "condition of the head" was swiftly translated into "head cold" in my brain. 🤷‍♀️ And I know "blue fix" is supposed to refer to drugs, but to me it turned into "cold meds so she can still go to work". Jesus fuck, my brain needs a checkup.  But anyway.

Love is a condition of the head
There is no prescription to forget
So you're all over my brain
You're the blue fix that makes me run
I'd do anything to get me some
Stop me, before it's too late

And with the same pairing, the lyric lines from "I'm Your Man" with Enrique Iglesias also gives me some allergies/cold vibes, because she's so tough and resilient and unsentimental, and therefore the perfect target for some weakness in the form of allergens/cold viruses.

It's the way that you're weak,
and the way that you're strong
Why I always wanna be your man

And then there's The Midnight song "Gloria", of course

Oh, Gloria, I feel so much better
I feel so much better today
And it's not the drugs
And it's not the weather
I just feel so much better today

It's about mental health, rather than physical, but still.

Oh, and you mentioned Cheap Trick... how about these lines from The Flame that kinda reminds me of how it feels to be fever-delirious with the flu:

Another night slowly closes in
And I feel so lonely
Touching heat freezing on my skin
I pretend you still hold me
I'm going crazy, I'm losing sleep

(...)

Watching shadows move across the wall
Feels so frightening
I wanna run to you, I wanna call
But I've been hit by lightning
Just can't stand up for falling apart
Can't see through this veil across my heart

Annnnd that's it for now, I think.

Wow yeah that would put my mind straight in the gutter as well.

The song that never fails to remind me of (allergic) sneezing is Dangerous Animal by the Arctic Monkeys:

Been fighting with my sheets and nearly crying in my sleep
Yes, I'm battling that well-told gripe, the most frustrating type
You should have racing stripes the way you keep me in pursuit
Sharpen the heel of your boot and you press it in my chest
And you make me wheeze, then to my knees you do promote me

[Chorus]
I'm pinned down by the dark
A-N-I-M-A-L
Makes my head pirouette
More than I would be willing to confess
D-A-N-G-E-R-O-U-S
D-A-N-G-E-R-O-U-S
The most unsuitable pet
It's been long enough now so let's
Make a mess, lioness

Well, not so much about colds or sneezing, but God Help the Girl's has some big hints of caretaking for me. Lyrics and song below:

They never met, the singer and the swinger
She walked in, they walked around each other
Fighting for the mirror and smiling
She was awkward
I was tongue tied
She was goofy
And she aspired to perfection as a hipster
And she asked me
How should I wear my problem hair
My dirty, no good problem hair?
She asked me
I blew it
I knew it
I always wonder how things could've been
(I wouldn't waste time dreaming about me)
Spend every second day just
dreaming how the first one ought to be
My dream was realised but I was sleeping
I was sleeping
I caught the girl, her eyelids started to flutter
And in my arms
She passed out cold, are you okay?
Just lie still you'll feel better
Feel better
(Where am I, what have I got on?)
Feel better
(You say that but how do you know?)
Feel better
(Who are you, what do you want?)
I always wonder how things could've been
(I wouldn't waste time dreaming about me)
Spend every second day just
dreaming how the first one ought to be
My dream was realised but I was sleeping
I was sleeping
I was sleeping
I was sleeping

Makes total sense to me! I can't think of anything specific but I totally do that with the word "head"....songs that say "you got in my head" or I got something in my head"...absolutely! ANd blue fix is so obviously Nyquil...

I forgot the most obvious...

My, my! I tried to hold you back, but you were stronger
Oh yeah! And now it seems my only chance is giving up the fight

ABBA - Waterloo. Always makes me smirk when I hear it played in the grocery store. And they play ABBA a lot in my local grocery store. :yay:

I know I'm not the first one to have made this association, but in the song "Vincent" (or "Starry Starry Night"), a song about Vincent Van Gogh, there's the line "Catch the breeze and the winter chills/in colors on this snowy linen land". My brain goes to a very different place when I hear the first part, though.

Blondie - Goldenrod

I'm sure this punk song is metaphorical but, I mean, come on.

As sure as anything
As sure as I can be
That 99 %, pure as Ivory
I caught the scent, followed the smell of it
Couldn't Ignore
Hey, why did you pick on me?
What's that pretty flower I see?
Tall and wild it waves at me
Mother says it's just a weed
Golden Rod, Golden Rod
Growing Wild, not in the city
Gave me an allergy
And my reaction's, what's gonna happen?
It gets no help from me
I can't explain it
Maybe I shouldn't try to
That old genetic code,
Had a hold on me
We go inside it, ran head long into it
And mothers' warning, useless to me
What's that pretty flower I see?
Tall and wild it waves at me
Mother says it's just a weed
Golden Rod, Golden Rod
Another blonde, not from the city
Gave me an allergy
And you can see me drinking the poison
Taking it happily.
What's that pretty flower I see?
Tall and wild it waves at me
Mother says it's just a weed
Golden Rod, Golden Rod
Another blonde, not from the city
Gave me an allergy
And my reaction's
What's gonna happen?
It gets not help from me
You're running wild, not in the city
Gave me an alleregy
And my reactions
What's gonna happen?
It gets no help from
Well you will see me
Drinking the poison, taking it happily.
You're running wild
You're running wild
Another blonde not from the city
Drinking the poison
Taking it happily
Not from the city
Golden Rod, Golden Rod

Not about sneezing but the ultimate fetish indulgence song (most say it's about anal, nahh, why be so rigid)

"If it's not love then it's the bomb that will bring us together":inlove::blushing::inlove:

This topic has been on my mind again, I'm listening to a lot of music lately. I have a couple songs one one of my mixes that have rhythmic throat clearing at the beginning: "Are you gonna be my girl" by Jet and "Everybody talks" by Neon Trees. Just a little "ah-hem-hem" at the beginning suggesting someone who is suffering from a little congestion! "Everybody Talks" has the added fun of "Hey baby you could be my drug, you could be my new prescription".

It would be fun to have a spotify channel for us all on the down low!

Here's a lovely song from the early 1990s: "Everytime we touch" by Maggie Reilly. I think many of you have heard the song - it was a huge hit in Europe, but it's known internationally, I think. I just love the melody and the voice, it's so beautiful, and somehow - some time ago - a sneezy spirit struck me and made me write these lines...  😏

So, get the karaoke clip playing, and sing with me!

...............................................................................

A tickle in my nose so fierce

Pollen count is high

Clouds of white and yellow dust

Fill the April sky

Feel my nostrils widening

Can’t take it anymore

Gonna have a sneeze attack

Just like never before

‘Cause I just cannot stop the sneezing

And everytime I sneeze I see your sweet smile

I know you understand my nose

I can’t pinch it closed

Need to let them fly

‘Cause I just cannot stop the sneezing

And everytime I sneeze I feel your sweet touch

Even though the sound’s so loud

I must let it out

Need to sneeze so much

The flower dust enfolding me

My nostrils twitch and flare

I sneeze a dozen times at least

The tickle is still there

The sneezing fit goes on and on

Violent and harsh

Need your help my darling

Need your nose massage

‘Cause I just cannot stop the sneezing

And everytime I sneeze I hear you bless me

Baby can you rub my nose

The tickle just grows

More and more I swear

‘Cause I just cannot stop the sneezing

And everytime I sneeze I see your sweet smile

I know you understand my nose

I can’t pinch it closed

Need to let them fly

‘Cause I just cannot stop the sneezing

And everytime I sneeze I feel your sweet touch

Even though the sound’s so loud

I must let it out

Need to sneeze so much

‘Cause I just cannot stop the sneezing

And everytime I sneeze I hear you bless me
Baby can you rub my nose

The tickle just grows

More and more I swear

English is not my main language so everytime I hear the word "issue" in a song I associate it with sneezing sound
