Zoom work chat sneeze (M)

Like many people at the moment, I am fortunate enough to be able to keep working because I can work from home.

I am currently working with a software team leader who is a sneezy guy who I have written about before. He sneezes a lot - they are powerful male sneezes but he almost always stifles by holding his nose, though the sneeze seems quite intense. Occasionally he he hitches before a sneeze - it's just beautiful. ❤️

Since I've been on a project with him again, I've seen him sneeze twice on Zoom. It wasn't unexpected, though Zoom gives you more of an excuse to just stare and watch without looking too weird. Today was pretty cool though - unusually for him he had enough time for a sneeze-warning and gave one.

We were talking about some code changes and he just said:

"Sorry - I'm going to sneeze..."

His voice getting just a little breathy with the word "sneeze".

He paused, and had a wonderful expression like his nose was very itchy. I couldn't help but look. Then he had a violent stifle: "Aaah... Hahjgnnnnt!"

I was overwhelmed, and said more than usual: "Oh, dear - bless you mate."

We continued talking about work after that, but it was a great sneeze.

Wow... dreams are made of things like this.

Another detail that did not go unnoticed : " he almost always stifles "  - which  suggests he sometimes lets them out.

It's always interesting to know what someone's natural sneeze sounds like.

I think I've only seen him let them out on one occasion actually, once when a cold was going around the office and he had caught it. I think I wrote about it once before but it was years ago so I can probably repeat the details.

The cold was making anyone who caught it sneeze more than normal - even I, a very non-sneezy person with a mental block, had to resist sometimes to avoid sneezing in the office when I caught the cold. Almost unheard of for me. I remember one meeting with someone when I was having to rub and scrunch my nose to resist a sneeze I felt building up. After the meeting was over, I went into one of the toilets and was finally able to relax - the tingling in my nose came back and I sneezed loudly 3 times into a tissue.

But I digress... as the cold had that effect on me, you can imagine what it did to the sneezy guy. It always fascinates me that some people are just more "sneezy" than others, like their noses are more sensitive and even a minor tickle can cause them to sneeze.

This guy usually sneezed at least once or twice per day. With this cold, he was sneezing multiple times an hour one afternoon, looking very uncomfortable and itchy in between. At first he was stifling, each time giving an exhausted-sounding sigh after the stifle.

Towards the end of the day I think he just felt too tired to stifle and wanted relief from the irritation in his nose. I think we all know the feeling that a loud sneeze can seem to bring relief from an itch in that way.

For the first time, I heard him sneeze unstifled a few times. I can barely spell it but it was a very harsh, vocal male sneeze. An huge

"AAAAAH-HOOOOOO!"

It was rare but lovely to hear.

I don't really know why he always stifled, because some other people in the office sneeze pretty loudly. Maybe he just felt his own sneezes tended to be too loud, and felt embarrassed, so he stifled.

Thanks for all the detail.  Much appreciated.

A friend of mine always stifled. I had never heard him sneeze outright until one day he had a cold. He gave me a lift - we must have been in the car half an hour and he managed three perfect unstifled doubles on the way. You wouldn't do that now...
